Welsh campsite raided by badgers on the hunt for bacon and Billy Bear ham
Welsh campsite raided by badgers on the hunt for bacon and Billy Bear ham She got more than she bargained for when the gang of animals gate-crashed her camping trip One of the badgers seen scurrying off with a pack of biscuits after rummaging through the tent (Image: Jam Press/Andrea Dickinson) A peaceful camping trip in the Welsh countryside turned into an unexpected wildlife encounter for mum-of-one Andrea Dickinson when her tent became the target of a group of hungry badgers. Andrea, from Burnley in Lancashire, had been enjoying the tranquillity of Shell Island in Gwynedd and had stepped out of her campervan to admire the Perseid meteor shower. But instead of a celestial show, she witnessed and filmed the cheeky creatures raiding food from a neighbouring tent, before helping themselves to her own supplies. She told What's The Jam: "I stayed up hoping to see the shooting stars and eventually went to bed. "I woke up at about 4am and went out to see the shooting stars again and heard lots of rustling in the tent next to me." They were raiding my neighbours tent. I had left some bacon outside my campervan and they had taken that. Article continues below "And my son's Billy Bear ham - they are quite partial to that. It was beautiful. It was amazing to see them. 'It made my stay more spectacular. I was more happy to see the badgers than the shooting stars." The videos show the badgers helping themselves inside the awning of the blue tent. Its occupants posted about the raid, saying: "The badgers couldn't get in the main part of the tent "They were in the front porch that's joined to the tent. It doesn't go fully to the ground but there was a box making it rise higher up which we hadn't realised. "We also thought all the food was shut away and didn't realise the dividers in our cupboard aren't connected all the way down. Article continues below "So the badgers got biscuits by going through the side that hadn't been closed and got under the divider. "We had been sitting watching them for an hour earlier in the night but thought the dog would have alerted us to something rustling in the porch."
