Man charged with assaulting corrections officer in the Broome County jail
A Broome County man has been accused of attacking a corrections officer while being booked at the Broome County jail. Christopher A. Dickinson, 58, was brought to the Broome County Correctional Facility at about 1:15 a.m. June 15 by Village of Johnson City Police after being taken into custody and accused of second-degree criminal mischief, a felony, according to the Broome County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office alleged that minutes later, at 1:20 a.m. during the booking procedure, Dickinson punched a female corrections sergeant in the face. Dickinson was charged with assault on a peace officer, a felony, in connection with the alleged attack. He was arraigned at central arraignment and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility. Broome County Republicans will have the chance to vote to appoint five nominees for local government positions in late June. This year, only Republican primary elections will take place in Broome County, and only registered Republican voters in designated towns are eligible to vote, with no other parties holding primary elections within Broome County. Voters will have the chance to decide their party's nominee for Broome County clerk, Windsor town council member, Windsor town justice and two Johnson City trustees. Here is what the summer could look like in Binghamton this year, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac. The almanac's predictions, which were updated on April 16, indicate a hot summer for Binghamton. The predictions note last summer was one of the hottest on record for the U.S., with a nationwide average temperature of 73.8 degrees, and this year is "shaping up to be just as intense," although the buildup to these temperatures will be relatively gradual. Heavy snow is expected this weekend in Binghamton. Here's the forecast
Another winter storm is expected to move into the Binghamton area this weekend. According to National Weather Service Binghamton meteorologist Ema Sera, Saturday night could bring between 5 and 7 inches of snow into Binghamton starting roughly after 7 p.m. Sera explained that, while the storm is expected to move out of the area by Sunday at around 7 a.m., there could be some lingering snow showers and poor road conditions. The snow forecast could change, according to Sera, as there is still some uncertainty with the storm, but the chance for heavy accumulation is high. Here's a look into the weather this weekend in Binghamton, according to the National Weather Service. Sera explained that the NWS has issued a wind advisory for the area until 1 p.m. on Friday, as the office has predicted up to 40 mph gusts throughout the afternoon. Despite this, Friday is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high of around 27 degrees and a 20% chance of snow showers. Friday night, the wind is expected to calm down, and is expected to be partly cloudy with a low of around 14 degrees. There is a 30% chance of snow before 1 p.m., however the rest of the morning and afternoon are expected to be mostly cloudy with a high of around 28 degrees.
