Glasgow woman caught smuggling cocaine into Barlinnie
Sarah Dempster went to the East End jail on the afternoon of December 29, 2022 to visit William Dempster. During the visit, a prison officer's attention was drawn to the table where they were sitting because the pair were moving suspiciously and looking around the room. Employees monitoring CCTV saw the 37-year-old woman take an item from her clothes and pass it to the inmate. A worker went to the table and the prisoner was taken for a body search. 0.7g of cocaine was found on him, worth £20-50, along with white tablets later identified as Buprenorphine. The visitor was arrested. READ NEXT: Wounded man threw hot chocolate at attacker after being slashed with knife Ms Dempster appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court earlier this week after she pleaded guilty to taking the substances into the prison. Her lawyer explained: "These are quite clearly very serious offences, she accepts that. "She was married to Mr Dempster and he was imprisoned at Barlinnie. "She has Bipolar Disorder and she said her mental health was particularly poor at that time. "Threats were made to her and her husband. She does not remember collecting the packets but she knows it was not a good decision." Sheriff Jonathan Guy replied: "It's a very serious offence. "Taking drugs into prison puts them into the system. The court has to take it seriously. The sentence needs to signal society's disapproval." Ms Dempster was sentenced to one year of supervision and tagged for eight months, forcing her to stay at home between 9am and 6am each day.

EXCLUSIVE The Valley's Kristen Doute SHADES Jax Taylor and his treatment of ex Brittany Cartwright
The Valley star Kristen Doute has weighed in on her co-star Jax Taylor seeking help for his cocaine addiction, and whether she believes he's a changed man. The 45-year-old confessed last month that he had substance issues, primarily with cocaine, ever since he was in his 20s. In September 2024, Jax checked into an in-patient facility to address his substance abuse and anger issues following his split from ex Brittany Cartwright, 36. After spending 30 days in an in-patient facility, he informed his fans that he was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and PTSD. 'It's been a lot to process and an emotional time for me, however I've come home to my son with a newfound sense of peace. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared for the future but my focus is just trying to be a better version of myself than I was yesterday,' he wrote on Instagram at the time. 'Mental health is a lifelong battle of not letting it control you but rather you learning to control it." In an exclusive interview with Kristen, who was joined by her co-star Nia Sanchez, said that she doesn't believe he got the treatment that he needed. Jax Taylor checked himself into an in-patient facility in September 2024 to address his substance abuse and anger issues following his split from Brittany 'I don't think that it did [help] and I don't think that had anything to do with the facility. 'I think it was what he was willing to give and receive from that journey that he took there, which you'll see play out,' she revealed. 'But no, I don't think he's taken anything seriously enough yet. I'm still hoping.' Bravo fans are now watching Jax's mental health journey play out in new episodes of The Valley. Season two premiered on April 15. The cast is watching scenes unfold for the first time, especially those that they were not part of during filming. Kristen admitted, 'To be honest, I don't think Jax could be worse. And I'm glad that it is being shown exactly the way that it is. It's not being sugar-coated. Because he was really awful, and that's just factual, unfortunately... Like, one-upping himself.' The Vanderpump Rules alum's co-star couldn't agree more. Nia, 35, told 'Yeah, I mean some of the things that he was saying, I was like, "Really? Really?"' Brittany, who shares three-year-old son Cruz with Jax, filed for divorce in Los Angeles in August 2024, citing irreconcilable differences. Meanwhile, their co-stars, Michelle, 36, and Jesse Lally, 44, are also in the midst of divorce after Michelle filed in March 2024 after five years of marriage. Nia, who is married to Daniel Booko, said the way both couples are handling the divorce process is 'very different'. 'There's a lot of just dysfunction in both relationships, and I feel like for both relationships, it's so much better for them to be separate, and I'm normally not the person that says that. 'Like, even when Brittany and Jax first separated I'm like, "If he changes, then maybe there's hope." Because I could see in her heart that she wanted hope and hope for that in the beginning.' Kristen agreed that both couples are 'so much happier separated' and said she is hoping that they can eventually 'get to a place where it's not so hard to be in the same room.' However, when it comes to finalizing their divorces - both of which are still ongoing - the TV personality believes Jax and Brittany's divorce will be finalized first. 'I think Jesse's been more difficult. Jax doesn't have a leg to stand on, in my opinion, even though he's also very difficult,' she insisted. Kristen gushed, 'I'm so grateful because I don't know what I would do without Nia.' The co-stars stopped by New York City office on April 22 She went on say, 'They're both very stubborn bullheaded men who want their way, which I've heard happens a lot in divorce, I guess. 'But they all know that they're happier without each other. So I hope they come to a resolution, so they can move on.' Kristen revealed to that she's fully supportive of Brittany moving on and dating whomever she wants, including Jax's friend Julian Sensley. In the premiere episode of The Valley, Jax learned that his ex had been sending 'sexy' text messages to his now-former friend. Despite it being a 'fling', Kristen said, 'It wasn't about Brittany finding someone to replace Jax, finding someone to replace as Cruz's dad or her new husband. 'It was just about finding someone that [thinks] you're beautiful and that you're funny and you're kind and you're smart, and all the things that your husband has not done for the last 10 years.' When asked if she's playing matchmaker for her friend, Kristen said, 'She's doing wonderfully by herself, but I am absolutely a wing woman.' Nia added, 'Yeah support and encourage but she's good on her own. She's incredible.' Meanwhile, Jax is rumored to be dating esthetician Jessica Perkson. She told 'He said [a photo of the rumored couple] was from a long time ago - as there are happy Easter balloons all over Ralph's grocery store. So I'm like, "How long ago? Last Easter?" 'He says that he is not, but he also says a lot of things. They could be dating they might not be.' Not bothered by Kristen's love life, she is focusing on her own with her fiancé Luke Broderick. The couple got engaged in September 2024 and are now expecting their first child together - a baby girl - in June. Nia, for her part, is expecting her fourth child - following the birth of Asher, 3, and one-year-old twins Isabelle and Zariah - with Daniel and is due around the same time as Kristen ('a week apart') and is also expecting a baby girl. Kristen gushed, 'I'm so grateful because I don't know what I would do without Nia. I spent the first 12 weeks - more than actually, like the first like 16 weeks - complaining to her about my pregnancy and how new it was and how difficult it was like emotionally and mentally, which isn't something I think a lot of people talk about... And then she finally told me she was pregnant.' With less than two months away from her due date, Nia said that she is glad she can 'enjoy' her pregnancy, which is a 'breath of fresh air,' after giving birth to her twins, which she said had a lot of 'high-risk moments.' New episodes of The Valley air every Tuesday at 9pm ET on Bravo.

Feds sentence 'White-Collar Socipath' to four years for financial crimes
TULSA, Okla. – A former Grand Lake man who used his family members' stolen identities to swindle over $3 million from banks and other financial institutions saw his probation suspended and was sentenced to four years in federal prison Michael Chase Morris, also known as Michael Jeffrey Morris, 63, appeared in U.S. Federal Court in Tulsa on Wednesday for a sentencing hearing to revoke his supervised release from prison for a 2016 conviction. It's his second revocation for financial crimes since 2023. Morris has five fraud-related convictions and seven prior revocations for fraudulent behavior since 1988. Federal prosecutors asked Eagan to sentence Morris to 56 months. Mr. Morris's criminal history and characteristics warrant the stiffest permissible sentence under the law to afford adequate deterrence to criminal conduct and protect the public from further crimes. Michael Morris, Sentencing Memorandum Earlier this month, Morris stipulated to concealing a checking account and a PayPal account. Federal prosecutors dropped the three other violations. According to court documents, Morris violated his probation 'by lying, providing false information, and concealing truthful information from his probation officer in his efforts to thwart her efforts to provide meaningful supervision.' Morris 'wasted no time engaging in additional transactions prohibited by his terms of release, and then willfully tried to hide his tracks when confronted by his supervising probation officer,' the documents state. In June 2016, Morris was sentenced to six and a half years for financial wrongdoing and five years of supervised release and ordered to pay $1,641,915.71 in restitution. It was during this sentencing hearing that Morris was called a 'white collar sociopath' by a federal prosecutor. Testimony during his 2016 federal sentencing suggested Morris was not upfront about a charity he set up in his deceased 16-year-old son's name to raise money for sudden cardiac arrest. Click here to read a timeline of Morris' financial convictions. On Wednesday, Judge Claire V. Eagan followed up with a four-year prison sentence with five years of supervised release. Eagan also ordered Morris to adhere to computer restrictions and obtain a mental health evaluation, according to court records filed on Wednesday. Court records filed by Morris show he has previously been diagnosed with several mental health issues, including Impulse Control Disorder, Atypical Anxiety Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and depression. 'The Court would be hard-pressed to find a similarly situated defendant who has demonstrated a more recidivistic pattern and lifestyle of fraudulent behavior coupled with a clear unwillingness to comply with the Court's orders,' court documents show. Sources close to the investigation said Morris may face new indictments. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. A ‘viral' tragedy exposing society's failings in love, accountability, and gender
"You talk too much"—I've dreamt of saying this to so many men in my life, quite literally. But I, a brown girl in a repressed household, have no liberty to do so. How can I tell a man to shut up? How can I even dare to think that? But a woman with an American passport said it, and I won't lie—I enjoyed every second of it. After all, how often do we see a Pakistani man getting a shut-up call? Onijah Andrew Robinson, a 33-year-old woman, came to Pakistan to live with her partner, Nidal Ahmed Memon, an 18-year-old boy from Karachi. Reportedly, they were already married. Now, here's where everything goes wrong—not really a surprise, because when does a woman marry a Pakistani man and have everything go right for her? The guy's mother blatantly rejected her, apparently because she's not conventionally pretty—she's not fair, doesn't have blue eyes, and lacks everything a typical Pakistani mother of a son (who's just a mama's boy, probably spending all his time online playing games or chatting with foreign women in hopes of an easy ticket abroad) would approve of. So, this woman is left stranded. She's abandoned and camping in front of the man's house, and suddenly, everyone goes crazy—she's now a viral sensation. But becoming a viral sensation in Pakistan isn't that hard. All you have to do is be really rich, privileged, fair-skinned, or from a white country. So even though she's stranded, she still gets a lot of attention. Suddenly, a third-world country with every problem known to mankind forgets everything and fixates on how this woman will navigate her way forward. She becomes the subject of memes, and from her looks to her history, everything is public. She's the topic of every dinner table discussion—everyone is sharing their two cents about her while their own lives are in shambles. However, these discussions remain shallow, and no one addresses a deeply rooted cultural problem: men taking the easy way out by making a complete fool of a woman—and never being held accountable. In later news reports, it was revealed that Onijah has Bipolar Disorder, which can make people act impulsively. I mean, who in their right mind falls in love online, marries a man half their age, and then travels across continents—only to act obsessively in love and be treated like a spectacle? She's being reduced to a viral hot topic, a joke, a piece of meat for shallow conversations. And let's not forget Memon—the reason she's here and the reason she's become one massive joke—is nowhere to be seen. This guy has disappeared off the face of the earth, yet no one is asking the real question: What was an 18-year-old boy doing online, leading a woman on, making her believe in a future, and pushing her to the point where she felt confident enough to travel all this way—only for it to end in chaos? Secondly, the way her looks are being discussed publicly is yet another disgrace this society fails to recognise. It's 2025, and we're still making body-shaming and skin-shaming jokes. This only proves that no matter what a woman does, she will always be reduced to her appearance—because, after all, what is a girl if not pretty? This entire fiasco, which has been going on for a week now, leaves us with many questions. We need to take a step back and rethink the institution of marriage in this country. Last I checked, marriage was supposed to be about companionship—not just about looks or personal gain. We also need to question where our youth, especially young men, are headed. The South Asian familial system is heavily biased towards giving sons the best of both worlds while completely ignoring daughters. But despite this privilege, men aren't out there conquering the world—they're sitting behind screens, looking for an easy way out through women. So what's all the tough persona for? Just come clean. Last but not least, we as a nation need to learn that not everything is a joke. This is a matter of serious concern—how a mentally ill woman was led on by an 18-year-old boy, with no regard for her emotional state. Once she arrived here, the family felt it was okay to abandon her on the streets. A country that is already so unsafe for women—this isn't just me 'claiming' it; statistics have shown this year after year—continues to fail its women, and now we've made foreign women experience it too. So, ease up on the memes and focus on raising your sons better.
