BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus Convocation
The Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Hyderabad Campus celebrated its 12th Convocation on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the Auditorium within the campus premises. The ceremony was graced by Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, who attended as the Chief Guest. Also present at the occasion were Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani, and Prof. Soumyo Mukherjee, Director of BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus. The auditorium was filled with pride, joy, and heartfelt applause as students walked across the stage to receive their degrees. This year, the institute conferred more than 1200 degrees to students across its undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes. Among them were numerous scholars recognized for their academic excellence and outstanding contributions to research and innovation. Gold medals for academic distinction were awarded to Tarimala Vignesh Reddy and Siddharth Yayavaram. Arnav Yayavaram received the Silver Medal and Ayush Bhauwala was awarded the Bronze. The Prof. Suman Kapur Memorial Best Ph.D. Thesis Award – 2025, in the area of Biological Sciences, was conferred upon Ms. Mude Hemanjali under the supervision of Prof. Jayati Ray Dutta and Prof. Ramakrishnan Ganesan. The Best Outstanding PhD Thesis Award for the academic year was also presented to recognize exceptional doctoral research across three domains. The awardees were: Ms. Sunita Kumawat, Department of Mathematics (Sciences), under the supervision of Prof. Sumit Kumar Vishwakarma; Mr. Gururaja S, Department of Mechanical Engineering (Engineering), under the supervision of Prof. Kundan Kumar Singh; and Mr. Prakash Kumar Shukla, Department of Economics and Finance (Non-STEM), under the supervision of Prof. Bheemeshwar Reddy and Prof. Dushyant Kumar. The Convocation also served as an occasion to honour distinguished alumni and acknowledge research excellence. The prestigious BITS Ratna Award for 2025 was conferred upon Mr. Prem Jain, Chairperson of BITSAA International, and Mr. Sid Mookerji, Founder of Silicon Road Ventures. The Distinguished Alumnus Awards were presented to Prof. Amit Sheth, Prof. Arun Rai, Mr. Arvind Mathew, Mr. Vijay Kedia, Mr. Ram Gupta, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, Mr. Gulu Mirchandani, Mr. Atul B. Lall, Mr. Krishna Narayanaswamy, Mr. Ramki Gaddipati, and Mr. B.N. Reddy. The Distinguished Services Awards were given to Mr. Navaratna (Norton) Kothari, Mr. Venu Palaparthi, Mr. Tanmaya Lal, Mr. Kailash Gupta, and Dr. Rakesh Suri for their continued support and contributions to the BITS Pilani legacy. Delivering the welcome address, Prof. Soumyo Mukherjee spoke about the remarkable strides made by the Hyderabad campus in both academic and research pursuits. He highlighted that this year saw the highest number of doctoral graduates from the campus, a testament to the robust research environment cultivated at BITS Hyderabad. The campus secured over ₹48 crore in externally funded research projects and produced more than 1,150 publications with an average impact factor of 4.18. More than 90 startups have been incubated by the campus's Technology Business Incubator, while over 365 pre-placement offers were extended through the Practice School programme. The Director also noted several accolades earned by students and faculty in national and international forums, reflecting the campus's growing global footprint. In his address, Vice Chancellor, Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao commended the Hyderabad campus for its strong alignment with the institute's long-term vision to become India's top research-driven university. He pointed out that initiatives such as the doctoral DRIVE and IMPACT programmes and expanding global partnerships are redefining research training and innovation at BITS. He also underlined the university's continued commitment to deep-tech entrepreneurship and industry-relevant research as part of its broader institutional strategy. Chief Guest Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, congratulated the graduating students and highlighted their responsibility to leverage science and technology for the betterment of society. Emphasizing the growing importance of interdisciplinary thinking, ethical research, and national service, he spoke about the transformative potential of emerging technologies. 'AI is advancing rapidly, unlocking new opportunities across disciplines,' he noted. 'As India moves towards digital-by-design governance and strengthens its technological sovereignty through initiatives like the India AI Mission, it is essential to balance innovation with ethical responsibility. Our graduates must broaden their thinking, reimagine product design, and drive climate-conscious, context-specific innovation. This is where applied science, engineering, and startups can play a pivotal role in shaping a sustainable and inclusive future.' Dr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chancellor of BITS Pilani, shared a message with the graduating class. In it, he encouraged students to remain agile, lifelong learners, and to build their careers upon a foundation of values. 'The world will reward those who learn, unlearn, and relearn. You are entering a world shaped by dynamism and disruption—but grounded in values, you will thrive,' he noted. The event concluded with proud smiles, emotional farewells, and a strong sense of accomplishment as the graduating class stepped out to make meaningful contributions in academia, industry, and society.

BITS Pilani announces AI+ campus in Amaravati, other initiatives

'For over six decades, BITS Pilani has been synonymous with academic excellence, pioneering innovation, and nation-building. Through its unwavering focus on quality education and values-driven leadership, the institute has nurtured generations of professionals, thinkers, and entrepreneurs who have played an important role in shaping India's growth story on the global stage.' The newly announced AI+ Campus in Amaravati will offer undergraduate twinning programs, cotutelle doctoral degrees with top global institutions, and master's programs in AI/ML, innovation, and strategy, the institute said. It will be developed in 2 phases. The first phase will support 3,000 students, focusing on core academics and student life and the second phase will scale capacity to 7,000+, adding advanced research centers, global collaboration zones, and dedicated entrepreneurship hubs, built using sustainable, modular infrastructure for scalability and efficiency," it added. The institute said the ₹1,219 crore Project Vistaar is one of the largest capital investments in its history. Under this, the institute will expand and upgrade infrastructure across its Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad campuses. It includes ₹60 crore for upgrading undergraduate laboratories to world-class standards. 'The student intake across campuses is projected to increase from over 18,700 to approximately 26,000 by academic year 2030–31. This physical expansion is coupled with strategic development of new interdisciplinary programs aligned with future industry and global trends,' BITS said in a press statement. BITS Pilani Digital is the institute's own EdTech platform and is in response to the National Education Policy's push for accessible and lifelong learning. The institute said the platform offers flexible, industry-aligned programs co-created with professionals. 'Over the next five years, BITS Pilani Digital aims to launch 32 programs (including 11 degrees and 21 certificates) and reach over 100,000 learners. Learners will engage in real-world projects, gain career support, and have the option of campus immersions to build connections within the BITS community and industry.' Prof. V. Success Story: Meet Prateek Jain Who Cleared UPSC At Age 25; Studied From BITS Pilani, JNU
Last Updated: IAS Prateek Jain first attempted the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2016, clearing both the prelims and mains but missing out on the final list. This is the story of IAS Prateek Jain, the new District Magistrate of Rudraprayag district in Uttarakhand. Upon assuming his role as DM, Prateek decided to evaluate the Kedarnath walking route by traversing it on foot, just like any other devotee. Along the way, he interacted with pilgrims and locals, witnessing firsthand the challenges they face. A video of this journey went viral, bringing him into the spotlight. Let's know his story. Prateek Jain became an IAS officer at the age of 25. Born on July 25, 1993, in Ajmer, Rajasthan, he is a 2018 batch IAS officer. He completed his graduation in Mechanical Engineering and Biological Science from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani and later obtained a master's degree in Public Management from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in 2020. Prateek first attempted the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2016, clearing both the prelims and mains but missing out on the final list. Nonetheless, he secured AIR 3 in the Indian Forest Service (IFoS) the same year. Still determined to become an IAS, he reattempted the UPSC CSE in 2017, achieving AIR 86 and fulfilling his goal at the age of 25. Initially, Prateek served as the CDO in Haridwar and then as the Deputy Collector in Nainital. He has now been appointed as the DM of Rudraprayag, becoming the youngest DM there. Rudraprayag is renowned for the Char Dham, particularly the Kedarnath Yatra, but it also faces significant challenges during the monsoon season. Upon taking charge, Prateek immediately assessed the Kedarnath walking route by walking 24 km from Gaurikund to Kedarnath, where he sought blessings from Baba Kedarnath. Along the way, he spoke with locals and tourists, listening to their concerns. BITSAT 2025: Candidates can update preferences from July 3; complete schedule available here
Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani will allow candidates to make corrections to submitted preferences and Class 12 marks starting July 3, 2025. This edit facility will remain open until July 5, 2025. Candidates can use this period to revise their course and campus choices made during the admission form submission. Following this update period, BITS Pilani will release the iteration-1 admit and waitlist results on July 9, 2025, based on the final submitted preferences. The deadline for accepting the admission offer and paying the required fee is July 14, 2025. BITSAT 2025 : Session 2 exam details and next steps BITS Pilani conducted the Session 2 BITSAT entrance examination from June 22 to 26, 2025. The results of this session are expected within 15 days of the exam.
