Birmingham Public Library to host ‘Treasures from the Stacks' book sale
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Friends Foundation of the Birmingham Public Library will host a book sale at the Central Library location later this month. 'Treasures from the Stacks: A Booksale for the Discerning Collector' is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10. This event is separate from the Friends Bookstore Spring Booksale, which is scheduled for June 12-14. 'Forget your average used book sale; this is an opportunity to discover truly exceptional pieces, from unique literary artifacts to exquisite leather-bound editions and breathtaking art volumes,' Sandi Lee, President of the Friends of the Birmingham Public Library said in a statement. Birmingham Public Library to host Bards and Brews Open Mic at East Village Arts The 'Treasures from the Stacks' sale will include one-of-a-kind books, leather-bound collector books, art books and more. This is more than just a book sale; it's an event for those who appreciate the rare, the beautiful, and the unique,' Lee added. Birmingham Public Library to host Bards and Brews Open Mic at East Village Arts
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Public Library will host its monthly Bards and Brews Open Mic event at East Village Arts on June 6. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free, and the event is open to anyone ages 18 and up. The event will be hosted by Thed Weller, and it will feature keyboardist Marlon Spears. This month's Bards and Brews event will serve as a tribute to Brian 'Voice Porter' Hawkins, the spoken word advocate who hosted the event until his death in 2021. Alabama State Fair returning to Birmingham Race Course

The Fair will run from March 28- April 6 at the Birmingham Race Course, featuring shows, carnival rides, a petting zoo and more. 2nd & Charles to hold Penny-a-Page sale
HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) –The bookstore 2nd & Charles will hold its Penny-a-Page sale next week. The sale is on March 29. During this promotion, members of the store's free rewards program can buy up to five used books for the cost of one penny per page number. For example, a 500-page used book could be purchased for $5. Store locations in Alabama include Hoover, Oxford, Madison and Dothan. Birmingham Public Library hosting nearly 70 events for students and families on spring break According to the 2nd & Charles website, the promotion excludes boxed sets, rare books, books without page numbers, books over $50, books included with 'Blind Date with a Book,' journals, comics, audio books and mini gift books.
