Lady Vols defeat South Florida in NCAA Tournament No. 4 seed Tennessee (23-9) defeated No. 13 South Florida (23-11), 101-66, Friday in the first round of the Birmingham Regional 3 in the 2025 NCAA Tournament at Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio. The Lady Vols led, 55-34, at halftime after outscoring South Florida, 29-9, in the second quarter. The game marked the eighth time Tennessee has scored 100-plus points this season. Talaysia Cooper totaled 20 points, six rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals, while Samara Spencer recorded 15 points and five rebounds for Tennessee. Zee Spearman also scored 13 points. Jewel Spear added 11 points, while Alyssa Latham and Tess Darby recorded eight points each. The Lady Vols, who forced the Bulls, who won the AAC Tournament Championship as the No. 3 seed, into 21 turnovers in the contest. Tennessee committed just five turnovers in the contest. The Lady Vols will next Sunday against host and No. 4 seed Ohio State with the winner advancing to the Sweet 16

South Florida won the 2025 AAC Tournament as a No. 3 seed The 2024-25 season marks South Florida's 10th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Bulls have a 4-8 overall record in NCAA Tournament play. Ohio State women earn No. 4 seed for NCAA Tournament
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Ohio State's women's basketball team is going dancing for the fourth consecutive season and are among the top seeds in its region of the bracket. The Buckeyes were handed the No. 4 seed in Birmingham Regional 3, marking the third consecutive season Ohio State has earned a top-four seed in the NCAA Tournament. As a top-four seed in its region, OSU will host first and second round games at the Schottenstein Center. In the opening round, the Buckeyes will host No. 13 seed Montana State, the Big Sky conference champions, on Friday. Tip-off time has yet to be announced. The other first round game in Columbus will be No. 5 Tennessee vs. No. 12 South Florida, also on Friday. The winners of each game play in the second round on Sunday. The other top teams in the Buckeyes' region include No. 1 Texas, No. 2 TCU, and No. 3 Notre Dame. NCAA Tournament play begins Wednesday with the First Four round and concludes on April 6 with the national championship game in Tampa, Florida. Head coach Kevin McGuff has now made the NCAA Tournament in eight of the 12 seasons he has been at the helm at Ohio State. The Buckeyes have made four Sweet Sixteen appearances and one regional final under McGuff since the 2013-14 season. As a two-seed in the 2024 tournament, the Buckeyes lost to Duke in the second round. They fell the year before that in the regional final to Virginia Tech as a three-seed. OSU's last Final Four appearance was in 1993. In 2024-25, Ohio State had a 25-6 record that included a 13-5 Big Ten record and a perfect 15-0 mark at home. The Buckeyes finished third in the Big Ten standings and won their quarterfinal in the conference tournament over Iowa before falling to eventual champions UCLA in a semifinal. The Bruins earned the No. 1 overall seed for the tournament for the first time while intraconference foes USC, the only team to beat UCLA, also earned a number one seed. In total, 12 Big Ten teams earned berths into the March Madness bracket.
