Violette_FR's New Lip Nectar Is Summer's Juiciest Beauty Launch
All linked products are independently selected by our editors. If you purchase any of these products, we may earn a commission. It's not a lip oil (thank god), nor a gloss, nor a tint — my latest can't-live-without-it lip product is none other than Violette_FR's latest and greatest: A lip nectar. As the juicy, succulent name suggests, Violette_FR (the same brand behind viral hits like Bisou Balm and Petal Bouche), designed Lip Nectar to hydrate and deliver a just-bitten stain of color. As Violette, the founder and makeup artist behind the brand, shares, the inspiration came from her constant search for a lip stain that felt grown-up and elevated. And because she was in the unique position to create her dream product, Lip Nectar was born. As someone who rarely wears lipstick (the effort!), this sounded right up my alley. It's available in four shades inspired by nature, ranging from warm terracotta to petal pink. At first glance, Lip Nectar doesn't look like the game-changer it is — it comes in a tube with a doe-foot applicator and has a texture that resembles liquid lipstick. But the genius lies in how the color develops once it hits your lips. Violette_FR Lip Nectar, $29 My favorite shade is Rose de Moab, a desert-inspired rosy shade that's giving 'my-lips-but-better.' It applies as a pale iced latte, then deepens into a warm, caramelly nude. Another standout for me is Dahlia Noir, the deepest of the bunch. I usually steer clear of darker lip shades — they tend to look more severe than sexy — but this one is like Clinique Black Honey turned up a notch. It's surprisingly wearable and one of those universal hues that looks incredible on everyone, with a plummy, cherry-like tone I ended up loving for date night. Thanks to squalane, shea butter, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid, Lip Nectar feels as good as it looks. It's not technically a plumper, but I found it replaced both my lip balm and gloss — the moisturizing formula naturally gives my lips a fuller look. Goals, amiright? Like many of her products, Violette has distilled her makeup artistry into something user-friendly and foolproof. Layer it over lip liner or top it with Lil Nectar for shine, and you've got a whole look. Nectar has never tasted so sweet.

Triona McCarthy: Feeling spendy? Pick up these luxe products to create a home spa day
It got me reflecting on luxury and how even small touches of it can enhance our lives. Whether it's treating yourself to a spa day, savouring a fine meal, or simply taking a moment to enjoy the beauty around you, embracing luxury — however you define it — can add significant value to your day-to-day life. Here are five of my latest favourite luxe products. Ooh, lippy! Violette Bisou Balm Mon Cheri (€34, is a fresh new lipstick shade from the iconic Bisou Balm collection, which creates colours for cheeks and lips that feel like your own, but are more saturated. It is warm in tone, making it ideal for all complexions. The matte shade from this trés sophisticated French brand has just the right amount of boldness and it also has a great blurring effect when applied to your lips. Bronzed beauty For a healthy sun-kissed glow, Chanel Les Beiges Bronzing Cream (€55, comes in three shades to warm up the skin. Apply the lightweight and easy-to-blend cream-gel bronzer on cheeks, nose, forehead and décolleté using the fingers or a brush, for an ultra-natural make-up look. For a more sculpted, contoured look, apply it just below your cheekbones. Ooh la la La Mer The Lifting and Firming Mask (€285, targets visible ageing concerns to lift and firm the skin for a youthful, sculpted appearance. This luxurious cream mask infuses skin with serum-strength power and works over time to enhance the skin's natural processes. You can use it on your face and neck, and apart from giving a surge of hydration to your skin, it targets visible lines, wrinkles, sagging and lost density. Luxury scent I love creating atmosphere with a scented candle when I'm getting ready to go out and Baobab Collection — Sacred Trees Cocody (€95-€255, has a gorgeous scent of jasmine, patchouli and basil. Each candle was created in Italy, which are presented in a beautiful motif glass jar. With each purchase, you contribute to planting 10,000 Baobab trees in the Ivory Coast's northern region and establishing a vegetable garden for local women in Kani. Pippa's products Pippa O'Connor Ormond's POCO Beauty is known for its skin-loving formulas and pared-back approach. I love the POCO Beauty Skintuition Foundation and Unfiltered Soft Focus Finishing Powder (€32/€21, which are designed to enhance your natural skin rather than mask it. O'Connor Ormond says her products are designed to be simple, effective and beautiful, and are aimed at busy women who want to look fresh and feel pulled together without overthinking it. Treat Glow up To build dimension, micro-contour and add a pop of blush-glow to your face, try Charlotte Tilbury Glowgasm Face Palette in Nudegasm (€75, The hybrid cream-powder formula comes in five shades and gives a glass-skin soft-focus finish. This is thanks to its brightening glow gel that provides a glowing translucency that stretches over the skin. Trick Line out I use eye cream around my mouth to help minimise fine lines and plump my lips. This area is often overlooked and while we have a lip balm for our actual lips, we rarely take care of the entire mouth area that can be just as prone to wrinkles. Once I have finished applying eye cream around my eyes, I always take the remainder and dab it around my mouth to smooth out those laughter lines and make my lips even more kissable! Treatment Medik8 Crystal Retinal Age-Defying Facial, €140, The Spa at The Johnstown Estate, Meath, combining Medik8's signature retinal technology with professional-grade actives, including the fusion of vitamin A and vitamin C, this award-winning facial reduces wrinkles, boosts radiance and firms skin in one hour with no downtime. The 60-minute treatment includes 90 minutes of R&R in The Spa's gorgeous thermal suites.

The key to French-style beauty? Keep it minimal and effortless. Sort of
Periodically, we fetishise French women's effortless approach to makeup. And right now, when beauty is more minimal, the French aesthetic is trending again. Think the insouciant elegance of model and actor Camille Rowe, Call My Agent!'s Stéfi Celma and Camille Cottin, Emily in Paris's Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, fashion blogger Carrole Sagba, actor Lou Doillon and makeup artist Violette, an impossibly cool, tanned brunette with a perfectly shaggy haircut whose eponymous makeup brand is inspired by French-woman beauty. The Guardian's journalism is independent. We will earn a commission if you buy something through an affiliate link. Learn more. It's a sort of fantasy, of course. But while the 'French Girl' stereotype is pretty narrow in its aesthetic (on social media you'll rarely see the definition extended beyond white skin. Designer and model Jeanne Damas's beautifully packaged brand, Les Filles en Rouge, has just one – ONE! – shade of bronzer for all), the trend is really more about technique and attitude. The secret of French beauty is 'less makeup', yes, but it's also the impression that the wearer doesn't much care about what little makeup is there. This isn't wholly uncontrived. Violette designed her perpetually sold out Bisou Balm (£30) to mimic the French aesthetic of 'bouche mordue', lips that look 'just bitten' after using a fingertip to dab on bold lipstick over balm and blotting it with a tissue. Bisou Balm gives the same look in one step. Calisson and Amour Fou – if you can get them – are my favourites. Simply press fingertips on to lips, and dab the transferred colour on to cheeks for a natural, coordinating French flush. Flawlessness is not the goal, so foundation is less popular in France than elsewhere. More usually, women use a BB cream or sheer tint (Typology's very light, comfortable Tinted Serum, £33.90, is a bestseller in France) all over, then dot concealer where any redness or grey shows through. Mascara is essential, but French-style application is more natural looking. Among the best mascaras I've tried in a long time is L'Oréal's Paris Panorama (£12.99), which has an excellent, clump-avoidant brush and simply doesn't move when on. Brown shadow is as adventurous as typical French daytime makeup gets. Laura Mercier's Fresco (£23.50) is a foolproof matte powder shadow; elf's No Budge Cream Eyeshadow in Sand Dune (£5) can be stroked on with fingertips and suits everyone. Maybelline's Tattoo Liner in Smokey Brown (£6.99) is ideal, since it lasts longtemps.
