Colorado spring game: Live updates, highlights and reaction Colorado's Black & Gold Spring game is today as we cap off the third spring under head coach Deion Sanders. The weather cleared up in Boulder, and it looks like a fantastic day for some football along the Flatirons. Several starting positions are up for grabs, most notably the starting quarterback battle between 5-star freshman Julian Lewis and Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter. Other positions to watch are running back, wide receiver, linebacker and safety. Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter will be having their numbers retired, so make sure to tune in. (Last update: 3:45 p.m. MT) Impressive throw from Lewis to Kam Mikell leads to TD Lewis makes his best play of the day, showing his arm strength on a dig route up the middle to Kam Mikell. Arden Walker was another defensive standout from the scrimmage portion, beating Jordan Seaton for a sack. The action is beginning to pick up Dallan Hayden bursts through the line for a 25-yard gain for the biggest play of the day so far, but the Buffaloes' offense has no answer for safety Tawfiq Byard, who has made two big plays in the backfield. The downfield passing game won't be the same without Shedeur and Travis Both Lewis and Salter struggled to connect downfield on their first drives, and that might be a theme that holds heading into the fall. Kaidon Salter looks comfortable early Salter seems settled in with the CU offense, taking the checkdowns and letting his playmakers get up the field. The drive didn't end in a touchdown, but the second unit moved the ball into the red zone. The following will not be suiting up for Saturday's game: RB Micah Welch RB Charlie Offerdahl WR Omarion Miller CB Colton Hood OL Kareen Harden OL Phillip Houston OL Jay Gardenhire OL Aki Ogunbiyi DB Preston Hidge WR Kaleb Mathis LB Keaten Wade DL Amari McNeill DL Taurean Carter DE Samuel Okunlola The number of absences is not surprising, considering it's only a spring game. However, a few of the above players seemed to be deep into position battles, so it's a missed opportunity for specific players. Overall, 74 players are suited up for Colorado's spring game.
