Kiara Advani Thanks All For Making Her Met Gala Debut 'Extra Magical'
Last Updated: Kiara Advani looked absolutely mesmerising in a black gown with a metallic breastplate and a flowing white train at the Met Gala 2025. Mommy-to-be Kiara Advani thanked everyone for making her special moment at her Met Gala debut extra magical with their love, kindness, and celebration. Sharing a stunning clip of herself flaunting her baby bump for the first time in a gorgeous Gaurav Gupta creation, Kiara wrote on her Instagram, 'Still soaking it all in…Grateful for all the love, kindness, and celebration…Thank you for showing up for my Met Gala debut in such a big way, making my special moment extra magical. Your messages, cheers, and love mean the world." Kiara looked absolutely mesmerising in a black gown with a metallic breastplate and a flowing white train. As a special touch for the mommy-to-be, the designer added a heart-shaped plaque for her baby, delicately tethered to the breastplate by a golden thread, representing the umbilical cord. The stunner accessorised the look with gold rings, bold earrings, and an ear cuff. As for hair, Kiara pinned those wavy tresses back. Her ensemble was tied up with smoky eyes, brown toned lip-colour, and a complementing blush. Sharing his experience of dressing the 'Kabir Singh' actress for her Met Gala debut, designer Gaurav Gupta penned, 'Kiara Advani (@kiaraaliaadvani) in custom Gaurav Gupta Couture titled 'Bravehearts' at her debut Met Gala. A tribute to defiance, legacy, and new beginnings. Bravehearts is built on the spirit of the Black Dandy — those who challenged norms and reshaped culture with grace, strength, and individuality." 'On the pregnant Kiara Advani, the look takes on deeper meaning, representing how identity is inherited and reimagined through generations. At its core, a gold sculpted breastplate with two hearts – mother and child, connected by an abstract umbilical cord. She is enveloped in a dramatic white cape echoing André Leon Talley's 2010 Met Gala look, the piece is both armour and offering," he added. First Published:

Black America Web Featured Video CLOSE Source: Udo Salters / Getty This year's Met Gala leaned heavily into the legacy of tailoring, Harlem elegance, and Black cultural influence. Given the theme, S uperfine: Tailoring Black Style , we expected to see several Black designers we love. And while attendees showed up wearing nods to the past – and modern interpretations – only a few looks were crafted by Black designers. Still, when they showed up, they showed out. From bold structure to soft elegance, these creatives didn't just understand the theme—they made it their own. Designers such as Sergio Hudson, Hanifa, and Fear of God, gave us Met Gala moments for the ages. Here are a few of our top looks. Black Designers Met Gala: Savannah James Served Bossed-Up Beauty In Hanifa Source: Udo Salters / Getty One of our favorite Black Dandy interpretations of the night came from Anifa Mvuemba of Hanifa. The DMV designer turned Savannah James into a custom-tailored, yet feminine vision. Her burgundy pinstripe suit hugged her hips and cinched her waist with a nude corseted bodice layered underneath. The exaggerated white cuffs, strong shoulders, and burgundy tie gave boardroom-meets-ballroom energy. Anifa merged structure and softness with this look. Savannah owned the red carpet. Quinta Brunson Slayed In Sergio Hudson Source: Steve Eichner / Getty Sergio Hudson gave Quinta Brunson a gown that balanced sophistication, sexiness, and grace. Her striped black and white dress came complete with a matching off-shoulder blazer and a single red rose as an accent. The rose accent was chef's kiss! Sergio's garment was tailored to perfection and fit Quinta like a glove. One of several celebrities wearing Sergio Hudson, Quinta's ensemble was definitely on our best-dressed list. Ciara Floated In LaQuan Smith Source: ANGELA WEISS / Getty LaQuan Smith knows the female form, and Ciara is the perfect canvas. Her black gown was sculpted to perfection , dripping in crystal mesh that curved and hugged her like a second skin. The mesh draped her chest, neck, and hips, giving an armor-like effect. With Russell Wilson on her arm and a soft blonde pixie on her head, Ciara glided on the carpet. In the world of Black Dandy's Ciara's look was reminscent of the sultry singers of the time with an elegant, modern twist. LaQuan Smith also dressed Halle Berry and Babyface. This Year's Met Musical Performance Paid Homage to the Black Dandy
It's nearly impossible to discuss the Black dandy without thinking about Harlem. The Manhattan neighborhood is synonymous with Black style, and remains an area that's central to the Black identity. It makes sense then, that the 2025 Met Gala drew on Harlem in many ways—from A$AP Rocky's cover shoot to its annual Pre-Met party to the year's musical performance. For his take on 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,' Baz Luhrmann took us back to 125th Street during the Harlem Renaissance, where a poem by Coleman Domingo led into Usher's opening act. The crowd was grooving by the time the night's headliner, none other than Stevie Wonder, performed a host of hits. A once in a lifetime trio, for sure—though it was a choir and orchestra that rooted the entire show. The 20-person chorus, did, in fact welcome gala-goers to the red carpet with an a capella rendition of 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough;' and in the Great Hall once dinner started, they were joined by the Matt Jones Orchestra to continue the tunes before the Grammy-winners hit the stage. Dressed to the nines in elegant black suits, it was clear that the performance paid homage to the Black dandy in all its forms. 'Their wardrobe is all very uniform, and that they're all in tails because they're setting the gala mood,' Vogue contributing fashion editor Max Ortega said of Luhrmann's vision, which leaned into hair as a point of uniqueness that showcased the individual choices a dandy makes for added flair. To bring these hair looks to life, Luhrmann and Ortega tapped Dre Demry-Sanders, the celebrity hairstylist behind the Met Museum Catalogue for 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.' 'We're really excited to have [her],' Ortega noted, crediting Demry-Sanders direction for the hair looks behind the entire choir and orchestra. 'Every time I show [the performers] her work, everybody just gets so excited, so that's pretty cool.' Photograhed by Acielle / StyleDuMonde Drawing upon many references from Monica L. Miller's Slaves to Fashion to portraits in the exhibit, Demry-Sanders sought to modernize Renaissance-era styles. '[That] was a time of conks and relaxers, and obviously we don't have those anymore, so I'm recreating the style with natural hair,' she says, crafting shapes with natural texture. 'Back then, even if their hair was relaxed, the relaxer still had a bit of texture in it, so that's my focus here, to pay homage to that, but also homage to what we're doing with textured hair now.' With shaping being the main focus, who else to turn to than Bumble and Bumble's arsenal of products to sculpt and mold the hair to precision. Photograhed by Acielle / StyleDuMonde 'Because natural hair is easier manipulated when damp,' Demry-Sanders applied a bit of Curl Defining Hair Mousse or Curl Defining Styling Cream and water before detangling. 'Whatever is going to soften the hair to make the detangling the least painful as possible, but the quickest,' she says. While working through the performer's natural curls and coils, the stylist starts perfecting the shape. 'I don't want a piece out of place.' Once the texture is set, a few looks received a statement-making clean part an inch away from the temple. To ensure these parts stayed 'locked and loaded' it was the Sumogel Hi-Hold Styling Gel to the rescue—laying the hair down with smooth shine. The Holding Hairspray is what cemented the hair in place. 'It's a liquid form that I feel is better than aerosol because it's concentrated, so it's going to get that hardness that we want.'

Andre 3000 Wore A Piano To The Met Gala – And Somehow, It Makes Sense
Black America Web Featured Video CLOSE Source: Michael Buckner / Getty Only he could do this. Andre 3000 just made one of the most unforgettable Met Gala entrances of all time – and we are still gagging. The non-traditional artist and classic Atlanta rapper strapped a literal piano to his back like a satchel, bookbag, or regular accessory. But if you know anything about the legend, you know this isn't just about shock value. Andre 3000 is the type of icon who brings meaning everywhere. Styled by Law Roach, his entire look was a wearable metaphor: a nod to his new experimental EP 7 Piano Sketches , a visual riff on the album cover, and a perfect fit for this year's theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style . Clad in tailored navy Burberry coveralls, sturdy shoes, and his signature red hat, the Outkast member looked like a walking fusion of Black music history and high fashion rebellion. The mini Steinway piano strapped to his back (thankfully a lightweight foam replica) symbolized more than a music drop – it represented Black artistry, improvisation, and freedom. Historically, the Black Dandy movement has always centered on self-expression through tailoring, particularly in public spaces like jazz clubs, concerts, and churches. In other words, there were places where style was just as important as sound. Andre's look brings all of that full circle. Source: Jamie McCarthy / Getty As he walked the carpet, the artist dropped 7 Piano Sketches , a moody, instrumental EP he's been quietly crafting for years. 'These piano sketches are improvisations,' he explained to the press. 'I cannot name which notes, keys, or chords I'm playing. I simply like the sound.' That same creative freedom showed up in how he dressed: timeless, spontaneous, and rooted in reinvention. With a trash bag in one hand and a piano on his back, Andre 3000 didn't just show up to the Met Gala—he reminded us what true style and storytelling look like. Especially when your name is Andre, and you're free enough to play ( literally ) by your own rules.
