Investigating officer links police officer's movements to teenager's abduction case
The investigating officer in Kamogelo Baukudi's kidnapping case has linked a 42-year-old officer to the double-cab vehicle belonging to the State. Image: X The investigating officer in the abduction case involving Kamogelo Baukudi has revealed that the movements of the SAPS vehicle that was issued to the policeman arrested for the teenager's kidnapping match those of the victim's car and places the 42-year-old officer at the crime scene. Baukudi, 19, went missing for 20 days last month. Nzima Adoons, the police officer who is facing charges of kidnapping and extortion, appeared before the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Thursday, where his bail application was postponed to next Thursday, July 10. Last month, Adoons was arrested after the vehicle, identified as a white double-cab, used to abduct Baukudi, was linked to him. Baukudi, who has since been reunited with his family, was found alive in Wepener, Free State, last week after being abducted while being driven home from Martie du Plessis Special Needs School. However, during testimony before the court on Monday, the investigating officer revealed that the double-cab was assigned to Adoons at the time of the alleged abduction. "The description of the vehicle was given, and we know in most cases, even our supply chain knows which vehicles were allocated to whom on a particular day. This Toyota, as it was given, with dark windows that was identified as being from the anti-gang unit. A follow-up was made using the vehicle tracking system. Upon checking, all the GD6 Vehicles that we know about were also checked if they were never in that area, and there were no other GD6-type vehicles in the area," the officer told the court. Baukudi was rescued by the Free State police last Friday morning, after which five suspects, who have since been released, were arrested during the early morning operation. It is reported that the 42-year-old officer has been issued with a letter of intention for suspension for him to give reasons why he should not be suspended. "Your worship, as far as the documentation is concerned, it should be noted that this is not a suspension, but the intention for suspension. He should give reasons why he should not be suspended. The accused is invited to give reasons," said the State prosecutor to the court.

Former Hawks officer among suspects arrested for trafficking in persons
Three suspects, including a former police officer appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court in the Free State on charges of trafficking in persons, rape, and attempted murder. The three suspects, Alicia Britz, 29, Rian Mulder, 56, and former officer Raoul Hartman were arrested on Monday, June 30. The arrest comes after a multi-disciplinary team led by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation's (known as Hawks) Bloemfontein-based Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation, K-9 Unit, Crime Intelligence, and Police Emergency Services joined forces. The provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, Warrant Officer Fikiswa Matoti, said one of the suspects is a former Warrant Officer who was attached to the Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation in Bloemfontein until 2019 when he retired. 'The 26-year-old victim alleges that, during July 2022, she saw an advertisement on Facebook for a job as a bartender at a certain gentleman's club in Ferreira, Bloemfontein. She started talking to the club owner, who made arrangements for the victim to be transported from Ventersburg,' Matoti said.

Former Lesedi FM host DJ Skuzabell denies assaulting his wife
An assault case against DJ Skuzabell was dropped in May last year. Former Lesedi FM presenter DJ Skuzabell, real name Nkunyana Nkunyana, has spoken out for the first time about allegations that he assaulted his wife, Thakane Ramakau. This comes months after his estranged wife requested the withdrawal of the case at the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court in May 2024. Speaking on QwaQwa's Finest Podcast, in an episode released on Wednesday, DJ Skuzabell said the accusations have damaged his reputation and affected his career. 'What is painful now is that the situation affected my career. Today, I'm unemployed. Some people still look at me as someone who beats women,' he said. Despite the case being withdrawn, Skuzabell says the stigma remains, and the accusations have cost him jobs and industry relationships. 'I want to tell Mzansi today that I don't abuse women. That is why the case was withdrawn. I even went to counselling. 'Some of my former colleagues no longer call me, but I understand — it's their choice not to associate with me because of what happened.' In April last year, Ramakau told Daily Sun that she had endured ongoing abuse during their marriage. She claimed things escalated after DJ Skuzabell began a relationship with a younger woman from Botshabelo, with whom he moved in. She alleged that he had assaulted her when she disagreed with him taking their furniture to his new partner's place. Ramakau reportedly said she withdrew the case for the emotional well-being of their children. DJ Skuzabell, however, insists the case was dropped due to a lack of evidence. 'If you have beaten someone and they get you arrested, the first thing that needs to be there is proof; there should be bruises, but there was nothing like that. There was no medical report that she sustained injuries. 'She ended up saying I didn't [do it], that is why the case was withdrawn — because there was no evidence.' Bloemfontein mother sentenced for abusing minor son
The court sentenced a 52-year-old mother from the Free State to correctional supervision for sexually abusing her minor son over three years. According to South African Police Services, the abuse began when the boy was 12 and continued until he was 16. The case came to light in February 2024 when the boy disclosed the abuse to a professional service provider. This led to an investigation by Constable Jessica du Preez of the Parkroad Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit. Police arrested the mother on 25 May 2024 following the investigation and charged her with sexual assault. The court granted R10,000 bail and released the mother, despite the investigating officer initially opposing bail. Authorities placed the boy into the care of his biological father. After pleading guilty, the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court sentenced the mother to five years of correctional supervision under Section 276(1)(h) of the Criminal Procedure Act. This sentence includes strict supervision, such as limited movement, restricted alcohol consumption, and regular monitoring. Authorities added the mother's details to the National Register of Sexual Offenders and deemed her unsuitable to work with children. IOL reported that, In a similar case, a young woman appeared at the Cape Town Magistrate's Court for the rape of a 16-year-old boy in the Western Cape in 2023. Gender-based violence (GBV) activist Reverend June Dolley-Major expressed support for the victim. 'Rape is rape, and no one should be exempt from facing the consequences of their crime. I'm glad the victim spoke out, and that it was reported, leading to an arrest.' she said.
