Nick Kroll Reveals the ‘Sick Little D—' Scene in ‘Big Mouth' That Netflix Asked to Be Cut: ‘It's the Grossest Thing'

Just when you think coming-of-age animated series 'Big Mouth' on Netflix couldn't be any raunchier, co-creator and star Nick Kroll reveals the time that he and his cohorts realized they probably went too far. 'Maury [Kroll] was allowed to have sex with the decapitated skull of Garrison Keillor, and this was before Keillor went down, mind you, and [Netflix] still let that go,' Kroll told me Thursday at the show's series finale premiere at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. (Minnesota Public Radio cut ties with Keillor in 2017 after an investigation found he had engaged in dozens of sexually inappropriate incidents over many years.) 'It's the grossest thing. Netflix was like, 'Could you maybe…' and we were like, 'Yeah, we saw.'' The eighth and final season of 'Big Mouth' premieres on Netflix on May 26. Also hitting the red carpet on Thursday were Ayo Edebiri, Jason Mantzoukas, Jessi Klein, Richard Kind, Steve Buscemi, Whitmer Thomas, Jack McBrayer, John Gemberling and co-creators and executive producers Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett. The after-party included penis-shaped grilled cheese sandwiches. Andrew Rannells co-stars on 'Big Mouth' as gay bully Matthew. 'I told Nick Kroll this and he was very surprised,' Rannells said. 'When Nick asked me to do this, he was like, 'You're going to play a gay bully and I was like, 'What am I going to do for this voice? What is a gay bully going to sound like?' I decided that my gay bully voice was going to be a young Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones.' Next up for Kroll is a part in the new 'Smurfs' movie. He told me he's playing a 'bad guy wizard' who is part of villain Gargamel's (JP Karliak) 'crew' but 'genuinely' doesn't know his character's name. The film stars Rihanna as Smurfette. Papa Smurf is played by John Goodman with Amy Sedaris as Mama Smurf. Rounding out the cast are Sandra Oh, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Dan Levy, Natasha Lyonne, Octavia Spencer, James Corden, Kurt Russell, Maya Erskine, Alex Winter, Xolo Maridueña, Billie Lourd and Marshmello. Kroll joked that he produced Rihanna's music for the movie after working on Rihanna's long-awaited next album. 'They threw me a bone and were like, 'Wanna do some lines?' [in 'Smurfs'],' Kroll cracked. 'I said, 'I'd love to.'' ‘Étoile' Star Gideon Glick Launches LGBTQ+ Not-for-Profit Theater Initiative Blue Roses Project With Jonathan Groff Joining Board of Directors (EXCLUSIVE)

'Étoile' star Gideon Glick and producer-director James Will McBride are launching the Blue Roses Project, a not-for-profit theater initiative featuring Tony award-winning Jonathan Groff ('Merrily We Roll Along') on the board of directors, Variety can exclusively reveal. The Blue Roses Project aims to connect local New Orleans artists with theater professionals across the U.S., providing a rare opportunity for queer playwrights to create authentic, contemporary plays. 'By uplifting underrepresented voices, Blue Roses Project fosters empathy, builds community, and ensures that queer stories remain visible and celebrated.' In addition to Groff's involvement, the board of directors includes Tony award-winning actress Celia Keenan-Bolger, 'Dear White People' co-showrunner and writer Jaclyn Moore, 'A Strange Loop' producer Dale A. Mott, Apollo Theater director Kelley Nicole Girod, Broadway publicist Shane Marshall Brown and Not-For-Profit CEO and consultant David Emond. In a statement, Groff said: 'I'm honored to be a part of a project so dedicated to fulfilling a crucial need in our theatre community. Blue Roses Project provides resources so playwrights' imaginations can flourish in a place with a rich cultural legacy.' The initiative comes at a time of critical need with post-COVID budget crises and hundreds of anti-LGBTQ+ bills being introduced across the country. Over the next year, the Blue Roses Project aims to host a 29-hour workshop, create relationships with local and nationally-renowned actors and collaborate with LGBTQ+ organizations in New Orleans. Seth Rogen Sends Message to Daniel Day-Lewis to Guest Star on ‘The Studio' Season 2: ‘Please Consider a Zoom With Us, We'll Pitch You a Good Idea'

Seth Rogen wants Daniel Day-Lewis to guest star on 'The Studio.' 'He's the greatest living actor,' Rogen told me Wednesday at Apple TV+'s FYC event in Hollywood. 'His process is so specific that I think that would be an interesting thing to explore on the show.' More from Variety How Oners Created Tension in 'Severance,' 'Adolescence' and 'The Studio': 'We Tried To Keep the Audiences Guessing' 'Étoile' Star Gideon Glick Launches LGBTQ+ Not-for-Profit Theater Initiative Blue Roses Project With Jonathan Groff Joining Board of Directors (EXCLUSIVE) Dave Franco on Smoking With Bryan Cranston in 'The Studio' Finale and Bringing 'Toxic Positivity' to Every Scene Rogen, who stars in and co-created the series with Evan Goldberg, says he hasn't reached out to the Oscar winner… yet. 'Daniel, please consider a Zoom with us,' he said. 'We'll pitch you a good idea!' Goldberg thinks James Cameron would 'work really well' as a guest star, because the 'Avatar' director 'is a genius but he's also known for sometimes getting angry.' Chase Sui Wonders, who plays the aspiring development executive Quinn Hackett, has already pitched Kristen Stewart to Rogen and Goldberg. 'It's related to identity politics and if Kristen is dealing with a delicate matter, Quinn would attempt to relate to her… and get herself into hot water,' Wonders said. 'We saw a little bit in the first season but Quinn getting into hot water over owning her identity politics too hard would be a very fun sticky situation.' Wonders also mentioned a potential appearance by Al Pacino. 'There should be something about bringing back 'Scarface' for an absurd amount of money and Al Pacino has sold out at this point,' she said. Leonardo DiCaprio is on the top of Ike Barenholtz's list. 'He's the guy,' said Barenholtz, who plays Sal Saperstein. 'I don't think he's ever done a TV show. I think Leo is the golden goose.' Dewayne Perkins, who plays publicist Tyler, didn't even blink when asked who his dream guest star is. 'Zendaya,' he said. 'She's everything. She represents Hollywood in such a cool way, from being a child star to reaching the level that she's reached. She's a really good symbol of what Hollywood can be in a good way.' And then there's Larry David. His former 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' co-star Keyla Monterroso Mejia, who plays assistant Petra on 'The Studio,' says David 'would fit right in' in the Apple TV+ series because he'd be a 'nice balance to all the chaos.'
