Platte County recognized as Blue Shield community
PLATTE, CO., Mo. (News-Press NOW) — The Missouri Department of Public Safety has recognized Platte County as a Blue Shield Community in recognition of Platte County's commitment to Public Safety. The Missouri Blue Shield Program, created by Governor Kehoe in January 2025 through Executive Order 25-03, recognizes local governments that make significant efforts to reduce crime, foster law enforcement collaboration and build strong community partnerships for public safety. Platte County Sheriff Erik Holland said, The Platte County Sheriff's Office has a long-standing tradition of excellence as a leading law enforcement agency in Missouri, built on our commitment to integrity, innovation, and service to our community. Achieving the Missouri Blue Shield Designation is a testament to the unwavering dedication and hard work of our deputies, jail staff, and administrative personnel. This honor reflects our collaborative efforts to enhance public safety and strengthen community partnerships, and we are proud to continue serving Platte County with the highest standards of professionalism. Communities are eligible for a Missouri Blue Shield Designation based on their dedication to reducing crime, making substantial investments in public safety and developing strong collaboration with law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders. Each participating community's commitment will be reviewed annually to ensure continued alignment with the program's goals.

Jasper County sheriff explores advanced safety technologies
JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — State level recognition could be the first step toward a high-tech way to keep Jasper County safe. The Jasper County Sheriff's Office is among the first in the state Blue Shield Program. That means they're meeting specific policing standards like crime-reduction, community policing, and officer retention. The Governor has proposed 10 million dollars in grants for those agencies that Jasper County, that could mean a new law enforcement app, for sharing crime tips, public notifications, and much more. 'One of the things that in today's day and age, it's different from law enforcement, than what it used to be, is that there is a kind of an expectation of real time sharing of information. And so, you know if that's what the community's expectation is, I think we should work towards that if we can, and this would be a great opportunity for that,' said Jasper County Sheriff Randee Kaiser. Gov. Kehoe names first 15 communities in Missouri's new Blue Shield program
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Gov. Mike Kehoe has announced the first 15 Missouri communities to earn a Blue Shield designation through the state's new Blue Shield program, which makes them eligible for state funding to enhance law enforcement services. According to a news release from Kehoe's office, in order to achieve a Blue Shield designation, communities 'must demonstrate commitment to enhancing public safety, strengthening support for law enforcement, and building sustainable public safety partnerships.' Kehoe says his office continues to work with the General Assembly to make $10 million in grant funding available for this program. The designation allows communities to access state grants for law enforcement training and equipment. The first 15 Blue Shield recipients include:Arnold Desloge Jefferson County Town and Country Vinita ParkBranson Carter County Cole County Grandview Greenwood Kennett Johnson County Miller County Sedalia Warrensburg 'We are proud to see Missouri communities committed to supporting our administration's top priority – improving public safety and building strong partnerships between citizens and law enforcement,' said Kehoe via a news release. 'We have a number of applications from additional communities that are still under review, and we encourage even more communities to apply.'
