KUCHING (Aug 7): The potential for expanding and modernising Sarawak's port sectors took centre stage during a high-level meeting today between Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Denmark's Ambassador to Malaysia, Kirstine Vangklide Berner. Uggah, who is Sarawak Minister for Infrastructure and Ports Development, highlighted the state's commitment to strengthening international collaborations aimed at unlocking new growth within the port and logistics ecosystem. He emphasised that smart partnerships are crucial to Sarawak's strategic vision, particularly in enhancing port operations, infrastructure, and sustainability standards. In a productive exchange, both parties identified several areas with promising growth potential – including green maritime solutions, port digitalisation, and logistics connectivity enhancements – that could benefit from Denmark's maritime expertise. Ambassador Berner, representing Denmark as a global leader in sustainable shipping and port technologies, expressed keen interest in supporting Sarawak's port ambitions through knowledge sharing and commercial cooperation. Her delegation included trade and industry representatives, along with executives from Danish companies such as Blue Water Shipping and Topsoe. Also present during the meeting were Sarawak Minister for Infrastructure and Ports Development Permanent Secretary Datu Chiew Chee Yaw, Deputy Permanent Secretary Tuan Haji Latiff, Port Advisor Datuk Ian James and Kuching Port Authority General Manager Robert Lau. Earlier, Berner met with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and expressed Denmark's willingness to collaborate in areas such as the green transition, hydrogen development, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) – priorities that align with Sarawak's long-term economic and environmental goals.
