Connor McDavid ends NHL trophy superstition after Game 5 victory over Dallas Stars and fans are standing with him
Image via Bob Frid-Imagn Images Connor McDavid, the captain of the Edmonton Oilers, has finally led the team to win against the Dallas Stars in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs Western Conference Final. While the Oilers' fans are all excited about the win, Connor McDavid is going viral for the way he broke a 'curse' after winning Game 5 against the Dallas Stars. Connor McDavid crushes the NHL 'curse' and fans stand by him Recently, a video of the captain of the Edmonton Oilers has been going viral as he rushes to lift the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl after winning against the Dallas Stars. After Connor McDavid lifted the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl, he spoke about it and reflected on how the Edmonton Oilers did not touch the trophy last year and yet lost the Stanley Cup Finals to the Florida Panthers. Connor McDavid said, 'It's pretty obvious I think. Don't touch it last year, you don't win. Touch it this year, hopefully we win' and fans are here for it. A fan commented, 'Last year, they didn't touch it and ended up losing. This year he is trying a different approach', while another fan wrote, 'Oilers didn't touch it last year, lost. Florida touched it in 2023, lost. Florida didn't touch it in 2024, won. The best and most meaningless superstition in sports and I love it.' A third fan commented, 'Staring into the soul of the camera too, jobs not finished', while another user wrote, 'BS w/ that superstition! The result is determined by how great someone plays or lucky is! #LetsGoOilers 🇨🇦' For the unversed, the NHL superstition is that teams prefer not to touch or lift the conference championship trophies as there is a certain belief that the team would end up losing the Stanley Cup Finals. However, the Edmonton Oilers believed in this superstition last year and did not touch their conference championship trophy but unfortunately, ended up losing the Stanley Cup Finals. Back in 2022, the Colorado Avalanche touched the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl and also ended up winning the Stanley Cup Finals that season. For the Edmonton Oilers, they are all ready to face the Florida Panthers but some fans are worried if Zach Hyman's absence might have an impact on their performance. Minnesota Wild Trade Acquisition Now Done for Season
Bob Frid-Imagn Images Bob Frid-Imagn Images If the Minnesota Wild have experienced anything this season, it has been a year of injury. Somehow they have still managed to fight for playoff positioning. John Hynes' squad has 87 points on a 41-27-5 record. They have nine games remaining and sit 4th in the NHL Central Division. The MN Wild desperately need star players like Kirill Kaprizov and Joel Erikkson Ek back. Both have begun to skate, but their timeline remains uncertain and the schedule is running out. Unfortunately for Hynes, reinforcements are exactly on the way either. MN Wild defenseman David Jiricek done for the year Earlier this season the Minnesota Wild made a future play to trade for defenseman David Jiricek. It was a massive move in that general manager Bill Geurin parted with NHL-ready Daemon Hunt, and a top-5 protected first round pick to get him from Columbus. Jiricek was the sixth overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. Advertisement The plan for Minnesota was to work on Jiricek's skating and integrate him into their lineup. He has played just six games for the Wild this season, the same amount he played for Columbus, and that's where it will end. A couple of days ago The Athletic's Michael Russo noted that Jiricek would be 'out a while' after getting injured during his first game back with Iowa. That's a pretty coy way to skirt around a lacerated spleen, but the injury is clearly substantial. Typically a lacerated spleen can result in shock and internal bleeding. Severity drastically alters the timeline for recovery, but it can be estimated anywhere between three and 12 weeks to fully heal. Advertisement Jiricek scored just two points for the Wild this season (1 G, 1 A) while tallying seven points in 27 games (all assists) for the Iowa Wild. The Czech Republic native will be 22 years old next season and hopefully rebound to a place where he can play a key role for Minnesota. Although the Wild are skirting the line of making the playoffs, their window reopens next season. Kirill Kaprizov is in line for a large, although diminished, contract. The salary cap situation clears up with Zach Parise and Ryan Suter's dead money falling off the books.
