Cardi rocked the stage at Drais' Beachclub nearly two years ago and she had the crowd going wild… a little too wild. She was hotter than the Vegas sun as she rapped the breakout hit, 'Bodak Yellow.' As BOSSIP previously reported, when the Am I The Drama? diva approached the crowd, a woman in the audience decided to cool her off with a cup of water. The anonymous woman wasn't the only one. Earlier in the show, the 'W.A.P.' rapper asked fans to help her beat the triple-digit heat by splashing her onstage. Cardi continued to perform, and several songs later, the anonymous woman decided to keep the cold water flowing. Once the drink hit Cardi's face, she hurled her microphone back into the crowd in a split-second reaction. The unnamed woman claims the microphone hit her and now she's suing for assault, battery, and negligence. She also claimed that the charity auction of the mic, which sold for $99,000, 'exacerbated [her] emotional distress,' TMZ reports. After the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department investigated the incident, they declined to charge the Grammy winner in August 2023. According to Complex, the police report didn't come from the drink thrower, but another woman accidentally hit when the airborne audio equipment ricocheted off the alleged drink thrower. Check out Cardi B's side of the story after the flip! In an interview on The Breakfast Club , Cardi explained the water, the mic, and why she singled out one fan. When Charlamagne asked if Cardi regretted taking aim at one of her fans, she said, 'It was really like a quick reaction.' During one part of the set, she welcomed some waterworks because 'the Vegas heat ain't no joke,' but those fans understood the assignment. 'It was hotter than a motherf**ker! So, there was a part of the show that I told people, 'Splash me!' But even then I told them, 'Be careful with the face because the face is beat, b***h!'' she explained. When the moment passed, Cardi expected the rest of the show to go as planned. However, she said the anonymous women tried to get in on the action 'four songs' or about '15 to 20 minutes' after she was over the splashing. She noted that the woman 'threw water and ice on my face!' At that point, Cardi said she just 'automatically reacted' and didn't 'even know that I was throwing it.' The 'Enough' star clarified that the ice shocked her, but the reaction came from the drink hitting her in the face. She asked how ten other people could splash only her body, but this one attendee got her directly in the face, against her wishes. When Cardi reviewed the video, she said it confirmed to her that the woman 'intended to throw that s**t in my face.' Welp, Cardi claimed it was a reflex in self-defense. And her attorney calls this latest lawsuit a money grab. 'The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County District Attorney's Office closed this matter for insufficient evidence a long time ago, but apparently the opportunity to try to make money off of a celebrity was too much for some willing law firm to pass up,' attorney Drew Findling said. Cardi B sued by fan for assault, battery after viral 2023 microphone-throwing incident
Two years after Cardi B was accused of assaulting a fan with a microphone during a live performance, the rapper is reportedly facing legal repercussions for the viral incident. The concertgoer, a woman from Cleveland, Ohio, filed a lawsuit alleging assault, battery and negligence against the Grammy-winning rapper on Monday, July 21, according to Rolling Stone and Billboard. The woman's attorney, Cierra N. Norris, confirmed the litigation in a July 24 press conference. "It is quite the feat to take on someone that is known and loved like Cardi B," Norris told news cameras. "Thank God we are not in a court of public opinion, but we are in a court of law." In an Instagram post, also confirming her client's complaint, Norris wrote: "No one should be afraid to hold someone accountable just because they are famous," adding that the woman is going by the pseudonym Jane Doe because she is "suffering from mental health issues as a result of the incident" and wants to avoid "potential backlash." Drai's Management Group, LLC, the owner of the Las Vegas venue where Cardi's performance took place, is also being sued for its alleged failure "to intervene or de-escalate the incident," Billboard reported. USA TODAY has reached out to Norris and representatives for Cardi B and Drai's Management Group for comment. In July 2023, Cardi B made social media headlines after footage from her performance at Drai's Beachclub showed her throwing her microphone at an attendee. In the video, which racked up over 100 million views to date, Cardi retaliated when a concertgoer standing at the edge of the stage tossed the contents of a large white cup, splashing her face and soaking her orange swimsuit cover-up as she performed her breakthrough hit "Bodak Yellow." Norris, however, offered a different version of events, saying during the press conference that Cardi had asked fans to slosh their drinks, and that simply because she had reached her limit does not excuse the "assault" and "battery" the fan endured. Cardi later reposted another video of the incident shared by a fan account. After the jarring encounter, the unidentified fan filed a police report for battery. No arrests or citations were issued, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Norris, noting that the lawsuit is being filed years after the incident, said a friend of the fan had contacted her while she was still in Las Vegas, and that she had been the woman's lawyer since then. They wanted to due the litigation right, rather than capitalize on a "15 minutes" of fame, Norris argued. Cardi B's attorney criticizes Jane Doe lawsuit as 'financial shakedown' Doe claims Cardi B encouraged "light splashing from drinks" during her performance at Drai's Beachclub, according to Rolling Stone and Billboard. Additional social media footage shared at the time of Cardi's performance showed the rapper seemingly welcoming getting splashed by fans. "Give me water," Cardi said in one clip, after which fans splashed her backside. It's unclear whether the footage was taken before or after the face-splashing incident. The woman, "acting in accordance with the environment created by Cardi B's express words and conduct, and in a manner consistent with other attendees, splashed a small portion of her drink in Cardi B's direction," the lawsuit stated, per Rolling Stone and Billboard. "In apparent anger and without warning, Cardi B suddenly and forcefully threw her microphone directly at (Doe)." Cardi B's microphone from viral video placed in auction for $100K The aggrieved concertgoer said the incident caused her "severe emotional distress, shock, humiliation and physical injury," Rolling Stone reported. Additionally, Doe said the sale of Cardi B's microphone in an auction for nearly $100K "further publicized the incident and exacerbated (her) emotional distress." "Fame is not a license to harm," Norris said. "Just because Cardi B is one of the most loved entertainers in the world does not mean that she is free from accountability." In a statement to Billboard addressing the lawsuit, Cardi B's attorney Drew Findling slammed the woman's complaint as a "transparent and pitiful attempted financial shakedown." "The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County District Attorney's Office closed this matter for insufficient evidence a long time ago," Findling told the news outlet. Cardi B sued for assault, battery, and negligence by a woman she allegedly struck with her microphone
An attorney for the rapper called the lawsuit an alleged "transparent and pitiful attempted financial shakedown." Cardi B is being sued for assault, battery, and negligence for allegedly throwing a microphone at a concertgoer who sprayed the rapper with their drink during a concert at Drai's Beachclub in Las Vegas in 2023. As Entertainment Weekly reported at the time, videos from the event showed the rapper in the middle of her hit "Bodak Yellow" when a fan raised their cup and threw their drink in her direction. A visibly startled Cardi could be seen locating the attendee before chucking her microphone in their direction and yelling at the person. Other videos shared by fellow concertgoers seemed to confirm that the mic did make physical contact with someone. Several security guards stepped in to intervene, and eventually Cardi continued the set. Still other videos circulating online at the time showed the rapper encouraging fans to splash her with water. "That s--- feels good," she could be heard saying. "Put that s--- in my p---y." All of which the alleged victim, who filed their complaint under the name Jane Doe, cited in the lawsuit filed on Monday, which EW has reviewed. "During the performance, Cardi B appeared onstage under visibly high-temperature conditions and, while holding a microphone, verbally requested that the audience splash water on her," the complaint states. "Cardi B made repeated gestures and statements encouraging concertgoers to throw water, implicitly authorizing and inviting light splashing from drinks." "Multiple attendees responded in kind, throwing drinks toward the stage, several of which visibly reached Cardi B and the surrounding performance area,' the lawsuit continues. "Plaintiff, acting in accordance with the environment created by Cardi B's express words and conduct, and in a manner consistent with other attendees, splashed a small portion of her drink in Cardi B's direction. In apparent anger and without warning, Cardi B suddenly and forcefully threw her microphone directly at plaintiff." Per the suit, as a result of the incident, Doe claims she has incurred "physical pain, emotional distress, reputational damage, embarrassment, and harassment from both media and members of the public." She also claims that her emotional distress was "exacerbated" when the microphone itself was later auctioned off for nearly $100,000. Drew Findling, an attorney for Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar, tells EW in a statement, "The filing of a civil case against Ms. Almanzar regarding the two year old microphone incident is a transparent and pitiful attempted financial shakedown. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County District Attorney's Office closed this matter for insufficient evidence a long time ago, but apparently the opportunity to try to make money off of a celebrity was too much for some willing law firm to pass up." Doe addressed the issue in a statement provided to EW on Wednesday. "What has been written off as a joke by many people is actually a traumatic experience that has significantly impacted my well-being and quality of life," says Doe. "I am seeking justice in the hopes of holding Cardi B accountable for her misdeeds, as no celebrity is above the law." The woman is also suing Drai's Beachclub for negligence, claiming in part that because the rapper was allegedly involved in a "substantially similar altercation" at the same venue, during which she threw a microphone at a DJ, the venue should have known "of this prior incident and that Cardi B posed a foreseeable risk of repeat violent conduct during her performance." According to 'People', the lawsuit claims that the 'Bodak Yellow' hitmaker seemed visibly overheated on stage and, while holding a mic, asked the audience to splash her with water. Doe claims she acted in response to Cardi B having encouraged fans earlier in the show to splash water on her to cool off.
