Cartoon characters on cartoon accents in ‘King of the Hill'
This new 'King of the Hill' features a few voices who weren't around for the show's original run on Fox from 1997 to 2009. Ronny Chieng now plays Kahn Souphanousinphone, previously voiced by Toby Huss, who also played Ted Wassanasong. Ted is now voiced by Kenneth Choi. Ted's son, Chane, is now played by Ki Hong Lee, replacing Advertisement In casting Asian actors to play Asian characters, the 'King of the Hill' team, including series creators Greg Daniels and Mike Judge, are acknowledging that things aren't the same as when the series first aired. The practice of using white actors to voice non-white characters — often using exaggerated accents — is now rightfully scorned. Alison Brie, star of the new body horror movie 'Together,' has expressed regrets about voicing a Vietnamese character on 'Bojack Horseman.' This isn't 'woke.' It's evolution and basic courtesy, much like the death of minstrelsy. Advertisement Emilio might see Speedy Gonzalez as a revolutionary, and Mel Blanc was definitely a talented guy. Watch: Family dysfunction spans decades in 'Long Story Short'
July 31 (UPI) -- Netflix released a trailer for Long Story Short, the upcoming adult animated series from Bojack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg. The trailer, released Thursday, shows brief glimpses into the decades-spanning story of the Schwooper family. "Jumping through the years, we follow the Schwooper siblings from childhood to adulthood and back again, chronicling their triumphs, disappointments, joys, and compromises," the official synopsis reads. Long Story Short has already been renewed for a second season ahead of Season 1's Aug. 22 debut. "Wow! A Season 2?!" Bob-Waksberg told Netflix's Tudum. "And Season 1 hasn't even come out yet! It must be a REALLY good show. I can't wait to watch it when it premieres on Netflix, Friday, Aug. 22! Let's all do that!" The series features the voices of Lisa Edelstein, Paul Reiser, Ben Feldman, Abbi Jacobson, Max Greenfield, Angelique Cabral and Nicole Byer. Dave Franco and Michaela Dietz are recurring guest stars.
