19 People Stranded in Cars amid Heavy Snowfall Rescued in 'Treacherous' Conditions: Reports

While 13 were rescued on Sunday, a further six were brought to safety on Monday, June 9. No one remains trapped in the area, The Guardian reported, citing SES and police. They got stuck at around 10:50 p.m. traveling along Blue Rag Range Track near Dargo High Plains Road. Half a dozen of those trapped were forced to spend a second night in their vehicles, ABC News Australia reported, citing SES Regional Duty Officer James Boler. "The rescue operation has actually been pretty treacherous," Boler told the outlet. The conditions up on the mountain have been very, very difficult to deal with." There has been 62 cm of snowfall in the region over the past week, with temperatures falling to -4.3-degree Celsius (24.2-degrees Farenheit), ABC News Australia reported. The Country Fire Association, Wangaratta ski club, and Hotham alpine resort have assisted SES in their rescue efforts, according to The Guardian. 'We were very surprised at the number of vehicles that we did come across yesterday…' SES Unit Controller Graham Gales said, per the U.K. outlet. 'The experience of our drivers going into the Dargo High Plains Road yesterday was even they were having difficulty, and these are people that basically work in the snow all year round.' On June 6, the Alpine Shire Council posted a weather warning on Facebook, stating that travelers should 'avoid the Dargo High Plains Road over the King's Birthday long weekend' due to 'snow and high winds' in the [Victorian] alps. 'If you're heading out on the roads, please drive to the conditions, pay attention to signage and don't drive on roads with closure notices in place,' the post read. Chillicothe girl with brain injury from flu complications returns home
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (WCMH) — A Chillicothe family is grateful to have their little girl back home, but now they have a long and expensive road ahead of them. NBC4 first reported on Locklynn Boler at the beginning of March. At just 4 years old, she fell into a coma for weeks due to severe complications from the flu. She has fortunately recovered from it, but will never be the same again due to the brain injury she suffered from the coma. 'You see all these kids dying from this, and somehow she made it,' said Bradley Boler, Locklynn's father. That's because Locklynn was born a fighter. 'She's been through it since the day she was born,' Boler said. 'She had issues with her kidneys well before all of this.' Boler said its been a constant battle since Locklynn woke up from her coma. Her brain injury has left her unable to walk, talk or eat on her own. Since then, she's been in and out of Nationwide Children's Hospital. 'She's on like 20 different meds,' Boler said. 'She takes a massive med pass at 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. She has to get vest treatments multiple times a day.' The bills have been piling up for the Boler family. They're in the process of making their home wheelchair-accessible for Locklynn. 'The plan now is we wound up getting a van finally,' Boler said. 'We want to try to get one with a lift, as well as getting another ramp built on to the back porch.' Locklynn now needs around-the-clock care. One of the Boler family's biggest struggles was finding a nurse, but their prayers have been answered. 'My sister quit her job to take care of Locklynn,' Boler said. 'We owe her the world.' Boler said they're grateful for the outpouring of love and support from the community. Fundraisers for their family have brought in close to $11,000. All of that money is being put toward necessary modifications to make Locklynn as comfortable as possible as she adapts to her new normal. Local organizations like the Mid-Ohio Board for an Independent Living Environment (MOBILE) have also stepped up to provide resources. 'Value your time with your kids,' Boler said. 'I spent a lot of the last year working 70 to 80 hours a week. Spend more time with your kids. You never know. It could happen to anybody.' While Locklynn will never be the little girl her family once knew, they said they love this new version of her just as much. 'She's amazing,' Boler said. 'That's all I can say. She's the strongest kid I've ever met in my life.' The Boler family is still raising funds to be able to make the necessary modifications to their home for Locklynn. Meridian man gets 41 years for multi-state drug trafficking
JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A Meridian man was sentenced to more than 41 years in prison for his role in a multi-state drug trafficking organization. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Samuel Boler, 33, was sentenced to 500 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. Man arrested for felony shoplifting in Gluckstadt According to court documents, from June 2016 through May 2018, Boler conspired with others to distribute kilogram quantities of methamphetamine from California and Tennessee into central Mississippi. This case is the result of an extensive investigation dubbed 'Operation Highlife,' which targeted illegal methamphetamine distribute in central Mississippi. This case was investigated by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. Close Thanks for signing up! Former HBCU player signs WNBA contract
Tilly Boler made the most of her basketball career as an HBCU star at Jackson State University. Now she'll get an opportunity to do the same in the WNBA. Boler, who wasn't drafted in this year's WNBA Draft, signed a training camp contract with the Chicago Sky on April 16. Boler, a 6-foot-1 guard from Meridian, Mississippi, played four seasons at JSU under coach Tomekia Reed. Boler's performance peaked during the 2022–23 season, averaging 12.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, earning her a spot on the All-SWAC team. She continued her strong play into the 2023–24 season, maintaining averages of 11.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.? In her final collegiate season (2024–25), Boler transferred to the University of Memphis, where she led the team with an average of 16.6 points per game and made 67 three-pointers, shooting 37.0% from beyond the arc. Her outstanding performance earned her First Team All-AAC and All-Newcomer Team honors. The Chicago Sky concluded the 2024 WNBA season with a 13–27 record, finishing 10th in the league and missing the playoffs. Under first-year head coach Teresa Weatherspoon, the team underwent significant changes, including the departure of key players and the integration of rookies Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. Reese made an immediate impact, averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game, setting a WNBA rookie record with 26 double-doubles before a wrist injury ended her season prematurely. Chennedy Carter led the team in scoring with 17.5 points per game, while Marina Mabrey contributed 14.0 points and 4.5 assists per game . Despite these individual performances, the Sky struggled with consistency and depth, leading to a decision to part ways with Coach Weatherspoon after the season.
