Live bomb found in Sekinchan river

SEKINCHAN: An old bomb was found in the Sungai Ban Canal, Tali Air 7, Sungai Leman, here yesterday. Sabak Bernam police chief Superintendent Md Yusof Ahmad said a 33-year-old Indonesian worker found the still-active explosive while cleaning the river at 7am. He said the man later lodged a report at the Sekinchan police station, and the Selangor police headquarters Bomb Disposal Unit was immediately contacted for further action. "The site belongs to the Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department. "The area is unfenced, adjacent to a drain, and has no closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance. "A perimeter was set up at the scene to prevent public access. No injuries or damage were reported," he said when contacted yesterday. Yusof said that at noon, the bomb disposal team destroyed the explosive using the electric technique. Earlier, a video circulating on social media showed police guarding the area following the discovery of the old bomb.

Unexploded World War II bomb weighing over 200 kg found in Melaka plantation

Photo: Johor Police Contingent FB MALAYSIA: A suspected bomb has been found in Melaka, Malaysia, after a land clearing worker stumbled upon it while working at an oil palm plantation in Felda Bukit Senggeh on Monday afternoon (Jul 14). The discovery was made around 1:47 p.m., according to Malaysian daily The Star, and the police dispatched a bomb disposal team from the police headquarters to inspect the object. Following an initial investigation, police confirmed that the item was an old unexploded bomb (UXB), estimated to weigh more than 200 kilograms. The device, thought to be a 500-pound aerial bomb, had likely remained buried for decades. 'After inspection, the bomb was confirmed to be an old unexploded ordnance from World War II, weighing nearly 500 pounds (about 226 kilograms),' local police said in a statement. Authorities have since secured the area, and the bomb was neutralised through a controlled explosion today (Jul 15), in line with standard operating procedures. Officers from the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) carried out the controlled explosion at about 1 p.m., using a low-order disposal approach known as the Vulcan Shape Charge technique that involves firing a specialised charge designed to pierce and disable the explosive safely without triggering a full detonation. Unexploded ordnance and UXBs are explosive weapons that did not explode when they were deployed and remain at risk for detonation. UXBs from past wars can remain volatile for decades and may still pose a serious risk of detonation if disturbed. Contractor uncovers 250kg WWII bomb at Kuantan construction site, safely neutralised

KUANTAN, July 3 — An unexploded 250kg old aerial bomb, commonly used in World War Two, was uncovered at a housing project site in Bukit Goh here yesterday. Kuantan district acting police chief Supt Mohd Adli Mat Daud said the bomb was found by a housing contractor at about 2.50pm before a police team rushed to the location to conduct security control and investigation. He said that after a risk assessment was made by the Bomb Disposal Unit from the Kuantan district police headquarters and the Pahang police contingent headquarters, the bomb disposal action was carried out using the 'low order' method. 'The relevant method was implemented to reduce the impact of tremors on nearby residences estimated to be located about 200 metres from the bomb site and disposal was successfully carried out safely at 10 am,' he said in a media statement yesterday. Meanwhile, Mohd Adli advised the public not to handle any suspicious objects found, but instead to immediately contact the nearest police station for further action. — Bernama

Police investigate unexploded mortar bomb near Menora Tunnel

IPOH: Police are investigating the source of an unexploded mortar bomb discovered near KM265 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) southbound, close to the Menora Tunnel. The 81mm explosive, classified as Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), was safely detonated on June 30. Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin stated that authorities are determining whether the bomb is a remnant from World War II. 'It has been confirmed as a mortar bomb, referred to as a 'blind', which means an explosive device that failed to detonate,' he said. The bomb was found by a PLUS employee conducting landscaping work around 9.30 am on June 30. The Bomb Disposal Unit from the Perak police contingent headquarters, with assistance from the Ipoh district police, carried out a controlled detonation. Hisam apologised for the 15-kilometre traffic congestion caused by the operation. 'Due to concerns that the explosive might still be active and pose a danger to road users, precautionary measures including temporary road closures had to be taken,' he explained.
