Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the much-awaited Yellow Line of Bengaluru's Namma Metro on Sunday, marking a significant step forward in the city's public transport network. Stretching over 19 kilometres with 16 stations, this new corridor is designed to ease travel for thousands of commuters in the city's busy southern belt. Here's how this expansion will make a real difference for passengers: The Yellow Line links important residential areas like BTM Layout, HSR Layout, and Bommanahalli with major industrial and tech centres including Electronic City and Bommasandra. This means people living in these neighbourhoods now have a fast, reliable option to reach offices, factories, and tech parks without battling Bengaluru's notorious traffic jams.
Passengers can now conveniently switch between the Yellow Line and other metro corridors. For example, RV Road station connects with the Green Line, Jayadeva Hospital station links to the Pink Line, and Central Silk Board station interchanges with the Blue Line. These connections drastically reduce commute times and provide more flexible travel options across the city. The corridor also serves important public amenities, including educational institutions and healthcare centres like Jayadeva Hospital. For students, patients, and professionals, this means easier and quicker access to essential services. With the Yellow Line added, Namma Metro's total operational length crosses 96 km, making it India's second-longest metro network after Delhi. This expansion means more passengers can rely on clean, efficient rail transit rather than private vehicles or buses, reducing road congestion and pollution. Built with an investment of over Rs 7,160 crore, the Yellow Line features modern elevated tracks, spacious stations, and integrated facilities designed to improve last-mile connectivity. Initial train frequency is set at one every 25 minutes, with plans to increase as ridership grows, ensuring commuters have dependable options throughout the day. Alongside the Yellow Line launch, the foundation stone for Phase 3 was laid, promising a further 44 km expansion with 31 new stations. This ongoing growth will continue to connect more parts of Bengaluru, supporting the city's rising population and evolving transit needs.
