Bonanza Fire prompts evacuation orders in Northern California
Bonanza Fire prompts evacuation orders in Northern California Evacuation orders have been ordered in Northern California after a grass fire spread across at least 80 acres on Tuesday, June 17. The blaze, coined the Bonanza Fire, began in the Shingle Springs area of El Dorado County at around 2:30 p.m. local time, according to Cal Fire. Officials say the fire is only 5% contained as of 6:50 p.m. The cause of the blaze is under investigation. Officials have ordered several areas to flee immediately, the department confirmed. A temporary evacuation center has been organized at the Placerville Library allowing victims to reunite with family, charge their devices and plan next steps, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office. More than 1,300 power homes and business were without power in El Dorado County as of Tuesday evening, according to USA TODAY's outage tracker. Little wind in the area indicates that the fire primarily grew from terrain, local station KCRA-TV reported. California fires map Follow along here for the full version of USA TODAY's wildfire map.
