Longtime lottery player buys 2 tickets in Maryland. They were both big winners

A longtime lottery player bought two tickets that turned out to be winners in Maryland, officials said. The winner, who's been playing the lottery for the last 15 years and crosses the state to rack up wins, bought two Bonus Match 5 tickets at a 7-Eleven in Waldorf, according to a June 5 news release by the Maryland Lottery. He had no idea the May 30 drawing would reveal that each ticket was holding a $50,000 prize, officials said. The man scanned the ticket at the store and saw it was a winner but stayed calm before heading home to share the news with his wife, officials said. 'I kept my cool and left the store right away,' he told lottery officials. When asked what he plans to do with the winnings, the lucky man said 'I'll get ahead on some bills, and the rest I'll save for a rainy day,' according to the release. Waldorf is about a 60-mile drive southwest from Baltimore.

Lottery player wins big — and plans to hit the mall. ‘I'm refreshing my wardrobe'

A lucky lottery player already has plans for some of the $50,000 he won playing Bonus Match 5 in Maryland. The Baltimore man, who works as a program counselor, has a shopping spree in his future, according to a June 4 news release from the Maryland Lottery. He told lottery officials that, 'I like clothes and I'm refreshing my wardrobe.' The man bought the Bonus Match 5 tickets at a food mart in Baltimore, lottery officials said. He scanned his tickets at a gas station later on, 'and the one said to 'Take to the Lottery,'' the man said, per lottery officials. He looked for guidance from the cashier, who 'told him he won big,' lottery officials said. The man, 'in disbelief,' kept running errands, but he did make one immediate purchase: getting his car detailed. 'I just wanted my car right and I got the works,' he told lottery officials. 'I didn't care how much it cost.' Along with the mall trip, the man may buy his wife a new car with the windfall, and he plans to save, lottery officials said.

‘Surprised' lottery player hugs her dad after winning big prize in Maryland

A Maryland lottery player feeling overwhelmed by a big win hugged her dad after learning the good news, lottery officials said. Jennifer Iobbi won a $50,000 prize from the May 1 Bonus Match 5 drawing, the Maryland Lottery said in a May 7 news release. 'I was surprised,' Iobbi told lottery officials. 'I wanted to cry, scream and dance — but I didn't want to embarrass myself, so I just hugged my dad.' Iobbi, who is a longtime lottery player, said this is the biggest prize she's won, according to lottery officials. She said she was inspired by other success stories with the game, so she wanted to try it, lottery officials said. But when a message popped up telling her to take the ticket to the lottery's headquarters, she asked her dad for advice. He told her to take it to the retailer and the same message popped up, so she went headquarters, lottery officials said. That's where she learned that she'd matched five winning numbers, but not the Bonus Ball. The numbers for the May 1 drawing were 10, 20, 21, 24 and 26, and the Bonus Ball was 32, lottery officials said. 'Overall, I still feel shocked but relieved,' Iobbi told the lottery. She said she plans to pay bills with her winnings and invest in her daughter's future. The odds of winning a $50,000 prize in Bonus Match 5 are 1 in 575,757 per $1 ticket and 1 in 191,919 per $2 ticket, according to the game's web page.

‘Few extra dollars in his pocket' leads man to a big lottery win in Maryland

With 'a few extra dollars in his pocket,' a Maryland man decided to try his luck and buy some lottery tickets — and it's a good thing he did. When the Hyattsville man was at a 7-Eleven in College Park, he bought 'a series of Bonus Match 5 quick pick combinations,' Maryland Lottery officials said in an April 23 news release. He spent $6 buying nine different combinations, lottery officials said. The man checked his lottery ticket using the lottery app on his phone, but a dollar amount didn't appear on screen, lottery officials said. Instead, he got a message telling him to visit lottery headquarters. 'I figured it would be big,' the man told lottery officials. Sure enough, he was right; one of his $1 combinations scored him a $50,000 prize, lottery officials said. The winner told lottery officials he plans to use some of his winnings 'to treat his mother and girlfriend to a steak dinner.' Hyattsville is about a 30-mile drive southwest from Baltimore.

Medical worker wins top prize in lottery for 3rd time — and plans to ‘have some fun'

A medical worker won the top prize in a Maryland lottery game for the third time in two decades — and can now afford to have some fun, she told officials. The loyal lottery enthusiast plays the Bonus Match 5 game exclusively and checks the winning numbers on her phone every night, lottery officials said in an April 1 news release. That's how she learned she had a perfect match for the March 29 drawing, officials said. She had bought a $6 ticket with nine lines of numbers, officials said. The fourth line down on her ticket 'matched the first five numbers drawn that night: 4, 16, 18, 22 and 31; the Bonus Ball was 21.' The player remembers winning her first-ever Bonus Match 5 win in the mid-2000s, officials said. She won again sometime in the last 12 to 15 years. All three of her total wins were on quick-pick tickets, officials said. 'I am going to pay bills and use the rest to have some fun,' she told officials.
