Anker's new outdoor wireless speaker vibrates to shake off dust and sand
Anker's audio-focused Soundcore brand is introducing a new wireless Bluetooth speaker with rugged features designed to help it survive and thrive during a trip to the beach. The Boom 3i has an IP68 water and dustproof rating plus an additional protective coating that will keep it corrosion-free for up to two years if exposed to or even completely dunked in salt water, claims Anker. The Soundcore Boom 3i is currently available for purchase through the brand's Canadian online store for $189.99, which is about $139 when converted to US currency. The speaker isn't yet listed on the US version of the Soundcore website. The Boom 3i is not only completely waterproof, it also floats, but not just for the sake of making it easier to recover should it fall off a boat or dock. The Boom 3i is engineered so that its speakers are always pointing upwards and are fully functional while floating, so you can use it directly in the pool or while having a swim at the lake. If you're using it in a river with a fast moving current you may want to consider attaching something heavy to the speaker's detachable carrying strap to create a makeshift anchor. Being waterproof makes the speaker easy to clean when you get back from the beach, but for dislodging dust or sand stuck in the speaker grill, the Boom 3i has a Buzz Clean mode that makes it vibrate intensely to shake off dirt. It also includes a mode that leverages its 96db of sound output to play an emergency alarm should you find yourself in need of help, and it can double as a megaphone using Soundcore's mobile app and your phone as a mic. Battery life is rated at up to 16 hours with the volume at 50 percent and features like boosted bass and synchronized LED accent lighting turned off. If battery life is your priority in a wireless speaker, there are better options available. But if you want a speaker you won't have to worry about babying while you're out on an adventure, the Boom 3i seems tougher than most.

Anker's new Bluetooth speaker takes rugged design to a new level — and it's perfect for your next pool party
Anker's diving into the summer spirit with a new Bluetooth speaker that takes rugged design to a whole new level. The Soundcore Boom 3i is a saltwater-resistant speaker that can play music even while floating in water, giving those poolside kickbacks the vibe they deserve. It also takes inspiration from the Apple Watch with a self-cleaning feature called Buzz Clean that dries itself of sand and water. A 16-hour charge also gives it just enough juice to keep the pool party going all day long. The Soundcore Boom 3i is only available in Canada as of right now on the Soundcore online store at CA$189, but is bound for alternative regions in the near future. Anker's Soundcore Boom 3i is saltwater-resistant with a self-cleaning feature that gets rid of residual salt and sand. It's ideal for trips to the beach or any shore, thanks to upward facing speaker grilles so that you can still hear your tunes even if the speaker's floating on the water. Currently available in Canada but rolling out to other regions, the Soundcore Boom 3i costs CAD$189, but you can save $40 by applying promo code 'WS24G07PV6S1' at checkout. Some of the best Bluetooth speakers have incredible IPX-ratings to give them an edge against the elements, but few measure to the same limits on offer with the Soundcore Boom 3i. It's built to outlast the toughest situations. Saltwater resistance means it can take on beach days without a hitch. Soundcore has gifted it an IP68 rating, meaning it's suitably protected against practically everything from water to dust — and even tumbles, as Anker claims it can outlast a 1-meter drop. What's neat about the Boom 3i is that it can adequately play music even when steeped in water. It does this by using a special weight and speaker grilles that are pointed upward so sound isn't drowned out in water or even in waves. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. There's also a handy alarm system built into the device that blasts at 96dB so everyone knows when there's an emergency. That's a stellar addition if you're more accustomed to the beach and get sucked into the currents far from shore. The Soundcore 3i can also remain good as new even after a long day in the pool or beachside with its handy Buzz Clean feature. It rips through water and dry sand with powerful vibration using its drivers, similar to how the Apple Watch ejects the elements. On top of its rugged design, the Soudcore Boom 3i does serious work with its audio performance. It comes kitted with a 50W power output on a 16-hour charge, which is quite handy for those all-day barbeques. As of right now, the Boom 3i is only available in Canada but is set to debut sometime in the US later this year. If you live in that region, it comes out to CA$189, which translates to around $140 in the US and £100 in the EU. That's a stellar deal if the Boom 3i ends up coming out at those prices. That would make it cheaper than the Sony ULT 3 and even the Bose SoundLink Flex, all with some improved specs to boot.

Anker's New Apocalypse-Proof Bluetooth Speaker Could Survive a Biblical Flood
I love a rugged device. Not because I have a use for one—I live in New York, and the 'elements' are usually more psychologically harrowing than physical—but damn, sometimes I'm a sucker for a stunt, and knowing I'll have tunes when the apocalypse strikes ain't bad either. Anker is here to scratch that baser, stunt-loving, disaster-fearing itch in my brain with what it's calling an 'industry-first' Bluetooth speaker that plays just fine while floating in all types of water. The Soundcore Boom 3i outdoor speaker is the latest in Anker's Boom series of outdoor speakers and offers a few headlining perks. One, as I mentioned before, is that this thing can float. According to Anker, the Soundcore Boom 3i: 'Stays upright and sound-forward, even in waves. No distortion, no sinking—just loud, clear audio for kayaking, pool parties, and every water adventure.' That's not really a technical feat necessarily; the weight is just distributed in such a way that the actual speakers stay pointed away from the watery depths. Still, it's a nice flourish if you plan on throwing this thing into a lake or a big pool, or if you're feeling a little wacky, the ocean. Speaking of ocean water, the Boom 3i is also apparently a lot more durable on that front compared to competitors. Anker says, thanks in part to a coating on the outside of the speaker, the Boom 3i can withstand exposure to salt water much longer than competitors. Specifically, Anker says the Boom 3i will stay 'corrosion-free' for up to two years, while 'other' speakers may start to degrade in five months. Outside of its emphasis on floatability, the Boom 3i also has some solid drop resistance and can withstand drops onto concrete of up to 1 meter (3.28 feet), can be submerged 1.5 meters deep in water for up to 30 minutes, and has an IP68 dust resistance as well. Outside of its durability, the Boom 3i also has 50W of sound, which equates to 98dB of volume and 16 hours of audio playback. That should be plenty of battery and loudness if you're using this thing at a lake party or somewhere out in the open for a party. Adding to its apocalypse-weathering vibes is also an emergency alarm for if you're ever in trouble that emits a noise that's 'roughly as loud as a motorcycle' to signal you need help. Similarly, there's a voice amplifier that lets you broadcast a message out loud and a 'Buzz Clean' feature that vibrates the speaker with sound to clean off sand and dust. Given all of that rugged, apocalypse-defying goodness, the Boom 3i won't come cheap, retailing at $189, but if you're looking for something that can save your ass when Waterworld hits, then it might be worth every penny.
