MLB Insider 'Clears Up' Juan Soto Rumor Amid Subway Series Backlash

It wasn't the best Subway Series debut for Juan Soto following his decision to leave the New York Yankees for the New York Mets in MLB free agency. Soto finished the weekend series at Yankee Stadium, going 1-for-10 with 4 walks, 2 runs scored, 2 stolen bases and 3 strikeouts. Advertisement The Mets also dropped two out of three to the Yankees in the process, and Soto faced his fair share of backlash from fans for a perceived lack of hustle and heart. New York Mets superstar Juan Soto facing the New York Yankees during the 2025 Subway Series at Yankee Jones-Imagn Images Following the final game of the initial 2025 Subway Series on Sunday, May 18, a rumor that Soto doesn't travel with the team — taking his own private jet on road trips instead — began circulating the internet. Although he references an on-air comment by ESPN broadcaster Karl Ravech as the potential start of this rumor, WFAN host and former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason certainly amplified it while speaking on his radio show on Monday morning. The WFAN social media team then reposted the clips from "Boomer & Gio," leading to 400,000-plus views and counting on X. Advertisement Before long, this Soto-Mets rumor even caught the attention of national ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan, who was quick to refute it. "To clear up what others have asserted: Juan Soto does not fly separately from his New York Mets teammates on a private jet," Passan reported on May 19. "He flies on the team plane. There is no private-jet provision in his contract for him or his family." SNY Mets and Yankees insider Andy Martino also chimed in afterward, confirming Passan's report. "Was going to say this as well. Definitely no private jet from Mets to Soto," Martino noted. At the end of the day, Soto didn't have the best series against his former team, and he's been criticized for backing out of various interviews both during and following Sunday night's game, but these private jet rumors appear unfounded. Advertisement The Mets headed straight from the Bronx to Massachusetts for a Monday night matchup with the Boston Red Sox. And, yes, Soto is said to have taken the team jet alongside teammates. Gregg Giannotti goes scorched earth on Rich Eisen before ESPN return: ‘Like smelling salts'

Gregg Giannotti has just one use for Rich Eisen's sports talkshow. 'The talk show is Ambien,' the WFAN 'Boomer & Gio' host said Thursday. 'Any clip that I see, it feels like they're doing a remote from a funeral home. It could not be more boring.' Gionnotti shredded the popular NFL voice for being a terrible talkshow conductor after the recent reveal that Eisen will be returning to ESPN with his self-named show nearly two decades after he exited. ESPN will begin airing Eisen's program this fall as part of the sports giant's direct-to-consumer service, according to The Athletic, along with ESPN+ and Disney+. 'He's got to be the most boring talkshow host in America,' Giannotti said of the 'The Rich Eisen Show' on Thursday. 'Why is everyone talking about him? Why does he have all these jobs?' Eisen largely is viewed in a positive lens, becoming a popular 'SportsCenter' host in the late 1990s and early 2000s before leaving for NFL Network in 2003. 'The Rich Eisen Show' then debuted in 2014 and is now aired on Roku. Giannotti praised Eisen for his 'SportsCenter' days, calling him a good studio host and complimenting his work when providing highlights. Riche Eisen interviewing Kevin Costner on his show in 2017. The Rich Eisen Show But that's where the praise ended. Giannotti referenced the time when Eisen hosted the 2023 NAB Marconi Radio Awards, describing his experience as 'Holy hell, I'm like I needed to get tased.' He added: '(It) was like smelling salts.' The WFAN host, who's known for his impressions, then referenced how controversial ESPN host Pat McAfee seemingly believes Eisen's return is a shot at him. McAfee mentioned how the two will be live at the same time, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. ET weekdays, calling it a 'counter program.' 'That feels very interesting,' McAfee said on his self-named show Tuesday. 'But also, love Rich Eisen, so I am cool with whatever… Noon-to-3 is fascinating, for sure. Is that a message? I don't know. But yeah, cool, whatever. But nonetheless, we're happy Rich is back.' Gregg Giannotti (r) is not a fan of Rich Eisen. @awfulannouncing/X Giannotti wondered how McAfee could even be concerned in the slightest since he believes there's an enormous gap between the two programs. 'If Pat McAfee is really worried about Rich Eisen messing with his show, then some executive is gonna get fired because Pat McAfee's show is interesting and entertaining, and he's done a really amazing job of carving out a niche…' Giannotti said. 'I can't imagine that that's actually a real thing, that they're trying to send Pat McAfee a message by putting on Rich Eisen.'

Boomer Esiason says NFL owners ordered 'entitled' Shedeur Sanders off their draft boards

Boomer Esiason says NFL owners ordered 'entitled' Shedeur Sanders off their draft boards Shedeur Sanders' NFL draft slide wasn't all his fault. While discussing the Colorado quarterback's historic slide to becoming the Cleveland Browns' fifth-round pick, former NFL quarterback and analyst Boomer Esiason claimed that Sanders was not on draft boards due to decisions made by team ownership. "When you listen to this kid [Sanders] talk, right prior or at the combine, about how if you want a new culture in your locker room, I'm the guy to do that, I can turn it around, he's very high on himself, and I think he's very off-putting to many, many coaches and general managers in the league,' Esiason said Monday on WFAN's 'Boomer & Gio.' The interview Esiason references is Sanders' pre-combine interview with the media, where he says he is a culture changer. "If you ain't trying to change the franchise or the culture, don't get me," Sanders contended. Esiason continues his rant, explaining how he was told the former CU quarterback was eliminated from their draft boards entirely. "I'm telling you right now, and I know this after talking to three different personnel people in the NFL this weekend, they didn't even have him on their board," Esaison said. "They took him off, and they took him off because the owner said, 'Take him off, I don't want that guy. I don't want this … entitled person on our team,' and I don't blame them." Sanders made headlines for his comments at the combine, but no one seemed to think it "torpedoed" his draft stock to the point he would be a late-round pick. Esiason also believes that Deion Sanders was a significant factor, alluding to a time when Sanders joked that the family would pull a "Eli," a reference to Eli Manning forcing a draft-day trade in 2004 because he did not want to play for the Chargers. It was a wild draft weekend for the Sanders' family as the quarterback fell victim to a prank call from Atlanta Falcons' defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich's son. Sanders now enters a quarterback room in Cleveland with a solid chance at first-year playing time, given the uncertainty of the position. Follow Charlie Strella on X, Threads and Instagram. Former NFL MVP reveals just how close Shedeur Sanders came to going undrafted

Despite being projected to get selected in the first round of the NFL Draft only to fall to the fifth round, it appears that Shedeur Sanders could have suffered a worse humiliation. Sanders was mocked as one of the top quarterback prospects in this year's draft class, but fell to the 144th overall pick before the Cleveland Browns took him. Even though many believed that Sanders was one of the two best quarterback prospects in the pool, he ended up being the sixth passer taken in the draft. But it could have been worse. According to former NFL MVP and New York radio host Boomer Esiason, many teams removed Sanders from their draft boards. Esiason, who won the 1988 MVP award with the Cincinnati Bengals, said that many teams didn't put the Colorado quarterback on their radar due to his attitude. Rumors about the way Sanders comported himself in team interviews began circulating prior to the draft. Boomer says some NFL owners ordered teams to take Shedeur Sanders off their draft boards: @7BOOMERESIASON @GioWFAN @WFANmornings — WFAN Sports Radio (@WFAN660) April 28, 2025 'When you listen to this kid talk, right prior or at the combine, about how "if you want a new culture in your locker room, I'm the guy to do that, I can turn it around," he's very high on himself,' Esiason said on an episode of his WFAN radio show 'Boomer & Gio' on Monday. 'And I think he's very off-putting to many, many coaches and general managers in the league. 'I'm telling you right now, and I know this after talking to three different personnel people in the NFL this weekend, they didn't even have him on their board. 'They took him off, and they took him off because the owner said, "Take him off, I don't want that guy. I don't want this … entitled person on our team," and I don't blame them.' Sanders was a lightning rod for some criticism for comments he made at the NFL Combine - which is where rumors of his 'unprofessional' behavior began. 'We went from Jackson State to Colorado and changed two programs back-to-back,' Sanders said at the combine. 'You don't think I could come to an NFL franchise and change a program again? It's history. It's always going to repeat itself.' The quarterback had been left to watch at his home in Texas as he slid down the draft boards in the first round. Going into the day of the draft, Sanders was a projected first round pick after previously being mocked as a top-3 pick just months prior. But Sanders wasn't chosen by anyone at all on Thursday and his misery continued during the second and third rounds. Sanders was helpless again as he watched three other quarterbacks selected ahead of him on Friday. His wait finally ended just after 2pm on Saturday, when the Browns selected the ex-Colorado star with the sixth pick of the fifth round - putting an end to one of the most stunning sagas in the history of the NFL Draft. It's time to be legendary. ⌚️ @ShedeurSanders @Browns (via @ShiloSanders) — NFL (@NFL) April 26, 2025 Sanders was left to watch as he slipped down the draft boards on Thursday evening Months ago, Sanders was believed to be picked early because the teams with the top three selections - the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and New York Giants - were all in need of quarterbacks. But the Giants signed free agents Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in the offseason, mostly filling their needs at the position for this season. The Titans were long sold on Miami quarterback Cam Ward, who they took first overall on Thursday night. Then, the Browns decided to trade down in the draft - giving the Jacksonville Jaguars the second pick. Jacksonville chose to draft Sanders' teammate, Heisman winner Travis Hunter, second overall instead. Rather than bulking up the QB position with Sanders, the Giants made a smart decision and took the best available player in the draft: Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter. The Browns, with the fifth pick they got from Jacksonville, also took a defensive lineman in Michigan product Mason Graham. As the first round ticked on, it seemed that any chance for Sanders to be picked rested on the hope that a team would trade up to take him. So when the Giants traded up to the 25th overall pick, many believed that this was their chance to select Sanders as their 'quarterback of the future'. The Giants did end up selecting a QB. But rather than Sanders, they chose Jaxson Dart out of Ole Miss. A dejected looking Sanders was seen slightly upset after that pick came through as his night didn't go as expected. That night, with friends and family surrounding him, Sanders addressed the disappointment. The 23-year-old spoke to his loved ones about his snub, admitting 'we all didn't expect this, of course'. But Sanders tried to remain upbeat, insisting he would be 'happy' regardless of what happens in the upcoming rounds of the draft. 'I feel like with God, anything is possible, everything is possible,' he said. 'I feel like this happened for no reason - all this is is of course fuel to the fire and under no circumstance we all know this shouldn't happen. 'But we understand we're on to bigger and better things. Tomorrow is the day, we're going to be happy regardless, legendary.' Entering Friday night, many expected Sanders to be taken with the first pick of the second round by the Cleveland Browns. Instead, the Browns passed on him at picks 33 and 36. Then, in a complete shock, the New Orleans Saints selected Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough with the 40th pick. No other quarterbacks were taken in the rest of the second round, leaving draft analysts confounded by how far Sanders had fallen. Then came the chaos of the third round. With the 28th pick of the round and the 92nd pick overall, the Seattle Seahawks chose Alabama's Jalen Milroe in a stunner. But then two picks later, in perhaps the most staggering development of the night, the Browns took a quarterback by selecting Oregon gunslinger Dillon Gabriel. Gabriel had been projected by ESPN's Mel Kiper as the eighth best quarterback in the draft class - making this an absolutely mindboggling decision. Donald Trump was stunned that Shedeur hadn't been selected in the first round of the draft That stunning second and third round turn of events comes on the same day that President Donald Trump took some time away from his duties to post on social media about the quarterback's dramatic tumble. 'What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID?' Trump wrote in his latest Truth Social rant. 'Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He's also a very good coach, streetwise and smart! 'Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness. 'He should be 'picked' IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!' All season long at Colorado, he showed off his prowess as a pocket passer, benefited from a great connection with Hunter and tossed for over 4,100 yards and for 37 touchdowns. While his willingness to take contact in order to make plays is a sign that he's good in uncomfortable situations in the pocket. When the pocket holds up, his accuracy and arm strength makes him a threat in short, medium, and long-range passes. But he's been prone to taking sacks in the name of making plays and doesn't use his athleticism to avoid hits as much as he should.

NFL owners ordered ‘entitled' Shedeur Sanders be taken off draft boards: Boomer Esiason

Shedeur Sanders apparently isn't the only person who 'torpedoed' his NFL draft chances. When discussing the former Colorado quarterback's stunning slide over the weekend to the fifth round in the 2025 NFL Draft, with the Browns grabbing him at No. 144 overall, Boomer Esiason claimed Monday the 23-year-old Sanders wasn't on draft boards at the discretion of unnamed ownership. 'When you listen to this kid talk, right prior or at the combine, about how if you want a new culture in your locker room, I'm the guy to do that, I can turn it around, he's very high on himself, and I think he's very off-putting to many, many coaches and general managers in the league,' Esiason said Monday on WFAN's 'Boomer & Gio.' AP Advertisement Sanders, once projected to go in the early rounds of this year's draft, had to wait until the third and final day to receive that life-altering call from the Browns, who already landed Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel in the third round Friday night. Beyond the quarterback 'just torpedo[ing] himself' where the pre-draft process is concerned, Esiason added Monday the quarterback's father, Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, 'didn't help' matters, particularly when he joked about the family pulling an 'Eli,' a nod to Eli Manning forcing a draft-day trade in 2004 from the Chargers to the Giants. It was a rollercoaster draft experience for Sanders' family as the quarterback fell victim to a prank caller, who posed as a representative of an NFL team. 4 Deion Sander coached son Shedeur at Colorado and Jackson State. AP Advertisement Jax Ulbrich, the 21-year-old son of Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, was involved and has since issued an apology. Only two quarterbacks were taken in the first round of this year's draft, with Cam Ward going No. 1 overall to the Titans and Jaxson Dart being selected at No. 25 by the Giants, whom Sanders worked out for. Sanders was also linked to the Steelers and Saints, both of whom drafted quarterbacks. He and Gabriel join a crowded quarterback room that includes Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Deshaun Watson. Sanders' brother, safety Shilo Sanders, went undrafted and later signed with the Buccaneers.
