Gregg Giannotti claps back at Carl Banks over fiery Karl-Anthony Towns take as feud escalates

Gregg Giannotti fired back at Carl Banks on Tuesday after the Giants legend criticized the WFAN host for calling Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns a 'loser' on Monday's show. Giannotti, who co-hosts 'Boomer and Gio' on WFAN with Boomer Esiason, opened Tuesday's show defending his take and expressing shock over the strong reaction from Banks. Advertisement 'I wasn't making it personal about Karl-Anthony Towns. He assumed I did,' Giannotti said. 'Then he made it personal about me. The same way that Carl Banks feels about us, meaning talk show hosts who didn't play [professional sports]. How you guys can't evaluate sports because you didn't play, is the way I feel about Carl Banks when he starts chiming in on stuff like this. Leave this stuff up to us. 'The way you don't respect our opinions on sports. I don't respect your opinions on media, because he's not very good at it. He doesn't understand. His comprehension was terrible yesterday, and he spent years on this radio station putting people to sleep.' The original comments made by Giannotti ignited a firestorm of responses, including a blistering take from Banks. Advertisement 'This is genuinely pathetic,' Banks wrote Monday on X alongside a social media clip of Giannotti talking about Towns. 'Calling a man you've never met a 'loser' says far more about you than it ever could about him. I've known Kat and his family since he was a kid — there's absolutely nothing about him that resembles a loser. Try being a better human instead of broadcasting this ignorant s–t.' 3 Gregg Giannotti elaborated on his fiery Karl-Anthony Towns take. WFAN/X 3 Carl Banks dubbed the WFAN host 'pathetic' in response to his take on Karl-Anthony Towns. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST Advertisement Giannotti contended that he never commented on Towns as a person and that his comments were strictly about the Knicks star's performance on the court. Banks has a bit of a frosty relationship with WFAN after he had a very public split from the station, where he had done regular appearances. Banks and midday hosts Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata had gotten into a heated debate over Kayvon Thibodeaux in 2023 that ended with Licata cutting the conversation short by telling his producer to bring the former footballer's phone line down. 3 Karl-Anthony Towns and the Knicks fell to the Pacers in Game 6 on May 31, 2025. Carl Banks rips WFAN's Greg Giannotti for Karl-Anthony Towns ‘loser' comment: ‘Ignorant s–t'

Giants legend Carl Banks called out WFAN host Greg Giannotti for his take on Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns following the weekend's season-ending Game 6 loss to the Pacers to end their season in the Eastern Conference finals. Giannotti called Towns a 'loser' and described him as 'soft' during Monday's 'Boomer and Gio,' which the station clipped and added a graphic that labeled Towns as 'LOSER KAT!' The clip caught the attention of Banks, who had appeared regularly on a different WFAN program before ending the relationship in 2023, and the former Giants linebacker was not amused by Giannotti's take. 'This is genuinely pathetic. Calling a man you've never met a 'loser' says far more about you than it ever could about him,' Banks posted on X in response. 'I've known Kat and his family since he was a kid—there's absolutely nothing about him that resembles a loser. Try being a better human instead of broadcasting this ignorant s–t.' Banks' opinion seemingly split users on the social media platform, with some appreciating his opinion while others didn't seem to have an issue with the way Giannotti described Towns during the segment of the show. Retired Giants linebacker Carl Banks attends a game between the St. John's Red Storm and the New Mexico Lobos at Madison Square Garden, Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST 'He's making $50 million a year. And at the core, he's a loser. That is their biggest problem. The guy is a loser. He's a losing player. He complains. He's soft,' Giannotti said about Towns. 'He shows you flashes where he's the best player on the court. Not enough. He doesn't play defense. He bitches and moans. He is, up until this point in his career, a loser, who is making $50 million, who is going to be a logjam as far as them trying to get to the next level. 'He is getting the point, now, as one of the most frustrating players I have ever watched in the uniform of a team that I root for because I know how good he can be. And it's just so damn annoying watching him not realize his full potential.' Towns' performance on the court has garnered plenty of attention in the wake of the Knicks' elimination from the playoffs and he's sure to be a topic of conversation on the airwaves for a little bit in New York. Giannotti did respond to Banks' post as well in a seemingly somewhat sarcastic fashion. 'Great to hear from you, killer. You still owe me 500 bucks from an appearance I did for you in 2010 in Pittsburgh,' the WFAN host wrote back on X. Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns (32) scores against the Indiana Pacers during the fourth quarter of Game 5 of the NBA basketball Eastern Conference final, Thursday, May 29, 2025. AP Banks had previously gotten into a heated debate with Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata over Kayvon Thibodeaux in 2023 that ended up with Licata abruptly ending the call with the Giants great. Banks resigned from his weekly spot on the WFAN midday show and later told rival station, ESPN New York, that the situation helped him realize that the station 'was not a platform I want to be on.'

Yankees radio voice Dave Sims missing Subway Series finale: ‘Laryngitis sent me to the IL'

Yankees broadcaster Dave Sims announced he would not be on the call for the series finale between the Mets and Yankees. Sims is dealing with laryngitis and the illness became too much of an issue to deal with for him to be behind the mic in The Bronx on Sunday night. 'Anyone listening to Saturday's game on WFAN heard my voice on its way out,' Sims wrote on X. 'No amount of gargling, inhaling steam, hot tea with honey, or chicken soup has made the difference. First time laryngitis sent me to the IL in my 23 years calling baseball. Bummed to miss the rubber match of the Subway Series I. Go Yankees!' 3 Aaron Boone of the New York Yankees and Dave Sims talk before the game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Yankee Stadium on March 27, 2025 in New York, New York. Sims is in his first year calling games as the radio voice of the Yankees after legendary broadcaster John Sterling retired last season. Emmanuel Barbari joined Suzyn Waldman in the booth. Sims' name had been in the headlines less than a week ago after he was ripped by WFAN morning show host Boomer Esiason for skipping broadcasts ahead of his first trip back to Seattle, where he had been calling games previously for the Mariners. 'I've worked with Dave, great guy,' Esiason said on the 'Boomer and Gio' show. 'We love Dave Sims, but I'm gonna call it out as I see it. You just got started as the Yankee announcer, and he's 40 games into his career as the Yankee announcer, and he decided to take off.' 3 Broadcaster Dave Sims of the Seattle Mariners looks on before a game against the New York Yankees at Safeco Field on July 10, 2010. If he had been here as long as John Sterling had been here — if John wanted to take a weekend off later on in his career, totally acceptable.' Sims will have a few days to heal up with the Yankees not playing again until Tuesday, when they welcome the Rangers to Yankee Stadium.

Boomer Esiason rips Dave Sims for skipping Yankees-A's series: ‘What are you doing?'

The Yankees' newest announcer is already catching some flak. WFAN's Boomer Esiason didn't hold back after Dave Sims elected to skip the Yankees' series against the A's, fewer than 40 games into his tenure as the radio station's play-by-play announcer for the team. 'I've worked with Dave, great guy,' Esiason said on the 'Boomer and Gio' show Monday morning. 'We love Dave Sims, but I'm gonna call it out as I see it. You just got started as the Yankee announcer, and he's 40 games into his career as the Yankee announcer, and he decided to take off.' Advertisement 3 Boomer Esiason (right) ripped Dave Sims for missing the Yankees-A's series. Esiason did preface his criticisms by saying, 'Unless there's something major going on that I don't know about, then I'll gladly retract the criticism.' But Sims' situation didn't warrant much empathy from Esiason. Advertisement With the Yankees scheduled in Seattle for three games following the A's series, Sims, who worked on the Mariners' broadcast team for 18 years, elected to take the A's series off and head to Seattle a few days earlier to spend time with family. 'I may be a New Yorker through and through, but coming back to Seattle also feels like coming home,' Sims wrote. 'I'll be skipping the A's series to have a few extra days here to spend with family & friends. Grateful.' The show acknowledged Sims' post and the fact that it was Mother's Day weekend, but Esiason still rebutted. 3 The Yankees won the series against the A's in Sacramento. AP Advertisement 'I mean, there's plenty of time in the offseason to be spending with family and friends,' he said. 'I mean all those players have moms, coaches have moms.' Sims took over the play-by-play role ahead of this season after John Sterling retired, 36 years after taking the role. 'What are you doing? You just took the Yankee job! It's supposed to be the job of your life,' Esiason said. 'If he had been here as long as John Sterling had been here — if John wanted to take a weekend off later on in his career, totally acceptable.' 3 Dave Sims posted to his X account that he was enjoying the weekend in Seattle away from the Yankees. Advertisement Ultimately, Esiason understood Sims' side, but still felt as though he was a bit early into his tenure to be taking time off. 'I just found it very interesting that 40 games in, we're already taking the weekend off,' Esiason said. 'I'm sorry, but that's just my stance.'

Boomer Esiason says NFL owners took Shedeur Sanders off their draft boards because of attitude

Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason unloaded on Shedeur Sanders on Monday following his dramatic slide in the 2025 NFL Draft, claiming that several teams took the former Colorado quarterback off their draft board because owners did not want an "entitled person" on their roster. Sanders was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the draft with the 144th overall pick. The stunning fall followed a dramatic weekend that began with many predicting that he would likely be selected in the first round along with teammate Travis Hunter, who was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the second overall pick. Not only had Sanders been passed over until the fifth round, he was also Cleveland's second choice at quarterback. The Browns had already drafted Oregon's Dillon Gabriel in the third round. Esiason said Monday that he was not surprised by Sanders' fall, claiming that several NFL personnel confirmed to him that their respective owners demanded that Sanders be removed from their plans altogether. "Shedeur Sanders just torpedoed himself. His attitude off the field – all those bad meetings that he had at the combine. His dad didn't help him either," Esiason said on Monday's episode of the "Boomer and Gio" show. "I mean, he's very high on himself and I think he was very off-putting to many coaches and general managers in the league. And I'm telling you right now, and I know this after talking to three different personnel people in the NFL this weekend, they didn't even have him on their board. They took him off and they took him off because the owner said 'Take him off, I don't want that guy. I don't want this kind of person in our – this entitled person on our team.'" Sanders faced significant criticism in the lead up to last week's draft. One longtime NFL assistant coach recently told the NFL Network that Sanders was "the worst formal interview I've ever been in in my life." "He's so entitled. He takes unnecessary sacks. He never plays on time. He has horrible body language. He blames teammates," the coach continued. "But the biggest thing is, he's not that good." Sanders was a projected first-round pick. Among the projected landing spots were the New York Giants, who had the third overall pick, and the New Orleans Saints, who had the No. 9 pick. When both teams moved in different directions, the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 21 seemed like the next viable option, but Sanders' name again remained on the board. Esiason seemingly agreed with his sources. "I don't blame them. When you listen to the way he was talking about himself, some of the actions that you've seen on the field in terms of his interactions with other players, shoving a referee in the back, building his own draft room, legendary, having all this crap hanging off – I mean, this is basically a wake-up call to I think a lot of these athletes."
