Myanmar reviews process to repatriate 18 foreign nationals who entered illegally
YANGON: Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Major General Aung Kyaw Kyaw, inspected efforts to collect data needed to repatriate 18 foreign nationals who had entered Myanmar illegally back to their respective countries, accroding to the reports.
On the afternoon of July 6, the Deputy Minister, along with other officials, visited the Border Guard Force Security and Disciplinary Control Office in Myawaddy. They inspected the situation regarding the collection of necessary data to facilitate the repatriation of 18 foreign nationals—17 Chinese nationals and one Kenyan national—who had illegally crossed into Myanmar through border areas.
During the inspection, the Deputy Minister instructed responsible officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Immigration and Population to ensure the accuracy of the recorded information and to carry out the repatriation process quickly and systematically. It is reported that coordination was made to address necessary issues.
From January 30 to July 6, 2025, a total of 9,198 foreign nationals who had illegally entered Myanmar were discovered and detained. Among them, 8,987 were systematically repatriated to their respective countries through Thailand in accordance with legal procedures, while the remaining 211 are ready to be transferred to their home countries and are currently being properly held and supervised.
It is also learned that the government is cooperating with the relevant countries to promptly identify and repatriate foreign nationals who have been involved in online fraud, illegal online gambling and other criminal activities, strictly following legal procedures. - Eleven Media/ANN
