Brighton agree deal for PSV defender Olivier Boscagli on a free transfer after £8m bid was rejected last summer
Brighton have agreed to sign PSV Eindhoven defender Olivier Boscagli. The 27-year old will join on a free once his contract ends with the Dutch champions next month. Brighton had tried to sign the Monaco-born left-footer last summer but had an £8m offer rejected. Boscagli played 30 Eredivisie matches this season as PSV pipped Ajax to the title on the final day of the season. The Frenchman, who joined PSV from Nice in 2019, contributed with one goal and six assists. Brighton, who have also agreed to sign Tommy Watson from Sunderland, are pursuing a deal to sign highly rated 17-year old Olympiacos striker Charalampos Kostoulas which could see Abdallah Sima go the other way. The Seagulls tried to sign the Frenchman last summer but had an £8m offer rejected Kostoulas usually operates as a No 9 but can also play behind the centre-forward or on either flank. Manchester United and Arsenal are among several other clubs keen on the teenager. Brighton have also made offers for Botafogo left-back Cuiabano. The 22-year old has previously been a target for Fenerbahce.

Brighton set to sign Olivier Boscagli in Bosman move
Brighton & Hove Albion have reached an agreement to sign Olivier Boscagli from PSV Eindhoven, according to talkSPORT. The 26-year-old centre-back made 30 league appearances for PSV en route to securing the Eredivisie title last time out courtesy of a final-day 3-1 victory over Sparta Rotterdam. Establishing himself as a pivotal figure since his transfer from OGC Nice in 2019, Boscagli has attracted a decent level of transfer interest in recent years. Brighton's pursuit of Boscagli dates back to last summer when they had an £8.5 million bid rejected by PSV, who were keen to keep hold of one of their biggest assets. Nonetheless, Brighton remained steadfast in their quest to lure the player and kept constant contact with him during the final year of his deal at the Philips Stadion. Boscagli had multiple contract renewal offers from PSV, all of which were rejected, opening the door for a free transfer. Despite the best efforts of ex-teammate Jordan Teze who was keen on a reunion at Monaco, Boscagli will now be moving to the AMEX Stadium. Boscagli was in action for PSV for all three of their Champions League games against English opponents this term as the Dutch side defeated Liverpool 3-2 in the group phase, before falling to a comprehensive 9-2 aggregate defeat over two legs to Arsenal in the round of 16. The Frenchman is expected to be one of many arrivals on the South Coast this summer, with Brighton also eyeing a move for Botafogo's Cuiabano. Capable of playing as a centre-back or left-back, Boscagli's versatility as well as his proficiency in ball distribution will come in handy for Fabian Hurzeler as the German manager prepares for his second year in charge. Hurzeler will be looking to build upon a decent debut year as his side close in on an eighth-place finish after claiming a 3-2 victory over Liverpool in their penultimate Premier League game. The Seagulls just about remain in contention for European football next season but will need results elsewhere to go their way heading into their season finale against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Albion poised to sign top target - as a free agent
Albion are poised to sign one of their top targets – on a free. Olivier Boscagli will head to the Amex this summer when his contract at PSV expires. Boscagli has been a target for the Seagulls in the recent past as they look to freshen up their defensive ranks. It was reported they offered up to £8.5 million for his services last summer. The 27-year-old played 30 matches for the Eindhoven outfit this season as they pipped Ajax to the title in a dramatic run-in. Boscagli fits the requirement of a left-footed and left-sided central defender and had six assists in the Eredivisie this season, as well as goal. Born in Monaco, he has represented France at the youth level up to under-21. He played for Nice and Nimes in the south of France before really forging his reputation in the Netherlands.
