Tom Morello Joins Team Springsteen, Rages Against Donald Trump During Festival Set: ‘F–k That Guy!'

Tom Morello has never been one to mince words when it comes to his thoughts on Donald Trump. The firebrand Rage Against the Machine guitarist and solo star joined his friend and fellow rock agitator Bruce Springsteen over the weekend in giving a NSFW salute No. 27 from the stage. Performing at the Boston Calling 2025 music festival on Sunday (May 25), Morello took the stage in front of a towering backdrop that featured a series of images of the president amid a sea of oversized buttons that spelled out 'F–K TRUMP.' If that message wasn't clear enough, at one point during his set, Morello flipped his instrument up to play with his teeth and revealed another pointed message aimed at the current administration taped to the back of his guitar that read 'F–k I.C.E.,' in seeming reference to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the federal agency charged with implementing Trump's aggressive deportation policy. 'Bruce is going after Trump because Bruce, his whole life, he's been about truth, justice, democracy, equality,' Morello said. 'And Trump is mad at him because Bruce draws a much bigger audience. F–k that guy.' According to at the top of his set, Morello invited fans to enjoy 'the last big event before they throw us in jail.' In the midst of the Trump administration's attack on universities it claims are not doing enough to combat antisemitism, Morello also mentioned his alma mater, Harvard University, which has particularly drawn Trump's ire. In its latest actions, the administration has threatened to strip the school of more than $3 billion in grants following Trump's order to freeze more than $2.2 billion in federal funding grants for the university and threats to revoke its tax-exempt status. Morello praised Harvard's recent decision to offer a free online course called 'We the People: Civic Engagement in a Constitutional Democracy.' Morello, who graduated with honors from Harvard in 1986 with a B.A. in political science, described the class as a primer on 'basic U.S. government, understanding the Constitution, and how to recognize a dictatorship takeover of your country.' The lash out against Trump by Morello amid the president's slash-and-burn reshaping of democratic norms came after Springsteen kicked off his Land of Hope and Dreams tour in Manchester, England on May 14 by lambasting the blitz of strong-arm actions that many political pundits have deemed authoritarian. 'In my home, the America I love, the America I've written about, and has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration,' Springsteen told the crowd. 'Tonight, we ask all who believe in democracy and the best of our American experience to rise with us, raise your voices against the authoritarianism, and let freedom ring.' As is his wont, Trump replied to Springsteen's harsh words with one of his all-caps Truth Social disses, calling the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer 'highly overrated' and 'dumb as a rock.' The president continued, 'Never liked him, never liked his music, or his Radical Left Politics and, importantly, he's not a talented guy — Just a pushy, obnoxious JERK, who fervently supported Crooked Joe Biden, a mentally incompetent FOOL, and our WORST EVER President, who came close to destroying our Country.' On the precipice of what many financial experts say could be a ruinous global recession sparked by Trump's unpredictable, see-saw tariffs, the president continued his attacks on Springsteen over the ensuing days, adding in another of his favorite targets: Taylor Swift. On May 16, the 78-year-old leader of the free world wrote, 'Has anyone noticed that, since i said 'I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,' she's no longer 'HOT?'' While Swift has not responded to the unprovoked attack to date, Springsteen was unbowed, doubling down on his disdain for Trump on May 17, telling a crowd in Manchester, 'Things are happening right now that are altering the very nature of our country's democracy, and they're too important to ignore… In my home, they're persecuting people for their right to free speech and voicing their dissent. That's happening now… In America, the richest men are taking satisfaction in abandoning the world's poorest children to sickness and death. That's happening now. In my country, they're taking sadistic pleasure in the pain they inflict on loyal American workers,' calling Trump an 'unfit president' who is running a 'rogue government.' Man faces multiple charges after fight with Boston officer

A man faces nine charges after a fight involving a Boston Police officer and a gun in Mattapan on Sunday. At about 12:19 p.m., an officer assigned to Mattapan was on patrol in the area of Westmore Road and Gilmer Street. While there, the officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation, according to a press statement from the Boston Police Department. As the officer tried to detain the suspect, a fight broke out. During the struggle, a firearm owned by the suspect went off, but neither the suspect nor the officer was struck by the gunfire, according to the statement. Boston Police Operations announced an officer-in-trouble call, and multiple officers from surrounding districts arrived on the scene. The suspect, 33-year-old Richard Raymond of Dorchester, was handcuffed, according to the police statement. Police determined the firearm to be a Canik TP9SFx with fourteen rounds in the magazine. A spent shell casing was lodged in the gun. After further investigation, detectives found a live round and a designer bag of marijuana in the suspect's jacket pocket, the press release reads. Detectives also found one plastic bag containing fourteen grams (1/2 ounce) of fentanyl, fifteen non-prescribed pills and approximately $1,888 in cash. Boston EMS responded to the scene and brought both the officer and the suspect to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Raymond is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, refusing to identify himself while operating a motor vehicle, trafficking a Class A substance and possessing a Class B substance with intent to distribute, according to the Boston Police Department. Officers also determined that the suspect had four active warrants for his arrest for various charges, including firearm, drug and motor vehicle law offenses, according to the statement. Here's which Mass. beaches are closed on Memorial Day

Six beaches in Massachusetts are closed on Memorial Day due to dangerously high bacteria levels, according to the state Department of Public Health's beach closure dashboard. Three of the seven closed beaches are located in Central Mass.: Damon Pond Beach in Ashby, Walker Pond Beach in Sturbridge and Lake Quinsigamond's Lake Park Beach in Worcester, according to the dashboard. All three are closed due to bacteria levels, the dashboard reads. Kings' Beach in Lynn. Rowe Town Beach in Rowe and Tenean Beach in Boston are also closed due to high levels of bacteria in the water. Walden Pond's Main Beach in Concord is also designated as closed on the dashboard, however, a park spokesperson says that only some access to the beach is restricted because of construction. A communications official at Walden Pond did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MassLive on Monday. The state's beach water quality dashboard is updated twice daily — once in the morning and once in the afternoon. The dashboard displays the findings of recent water quality tests at beaches throughout Massachusetts. When a beach is closed, people should avoid swimming in that location as they could risk becoming ill, according to the dashboard's website. It is safe to take part in other recreational activities at the beaches. You can find the full list of closed beaches here. Dancing in the rain: Here's the weather forecast for Boston Calling 2025

Festival attendees at Boston Calling 2025 may be dancing between raindrops this Memorial Day weekend, after a late spring nor'easter swept through the state just ahead of the three-day event. With heavy, cold precipitation and high winds, the nor'easter caused temperatures to drop to the 40s on Thursday and dumped several inches of rain across the state. Boston Calling organizers monitored the weather to ensure set-up operations were unaffected by the storm, and took precautions to protect the Harvard Athletic Complex festival grounds, equipment and staging, according to an event spokesperson. As the festival is rain-or-shine, attendees should be prepared for a variety of weather events over the weekend — and might want to pack layers and a poncho. Boston Calling starts Friday, May 23 and will continue through Sunday, May 25. Here's the weather forecast for each day. Though the nor'easter was projected to taper out by 8 a.m. on Friday, festival goers should still bring a rain jacket. Lingering and sporadic showers are expected throughout the daytime on Friday in the Allston and Boston area, with chances increasing up to 60% after 3 p.m., according to National Weather Service forecasters. Skies will be overcast and temperatures chilly in the mid-50s, though the high wind gusts — some that reached up to 50 mph on Thursday — are expected to die down. However, up to 25 mph gusts are still possible. The chance for showers will continue into Friday night, as temperatures reach lows around 48 degrees. Chilly and damp weather is still in the forecast for the second day of Boston Calling. While rain will be less likely after 10 a.m., skies are expected to remain overcast throughout the daytime and into the evening on Saturday. A chance of showers, mainly before 10am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. West wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Temperatures will be slightly higher, but aren't supposed to reach above the low 60s, forecasters said. However, the winds should diminish. Saturday night will still be cloudy, and temperatures could reach lows around 47 degrees. The final day of Boston Calling is expected to have the best weather of all three days. The sun will finally emerge at times throughout the day, even as partly cloudy skies persist. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 60s and reach highs around 64 degrees, and winds should remain light. Temperatures may drop below the 50s on Sunday night, but no precipitation is expected.
