Morocco U20 Coach: ‘We're Ready for Anyone'

Morocco's under-20 national team coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, says his side are dreaming big ahead of the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, despite being drawn into a daunting group alongside Brazil, Mexico, and Spain. In an interview with Ouahbi was optimistic: 'We have a clear playing identity, tactical discipline, and technical quality,' he said. 'The boys showed real promise in the Africa Cup of Nations, even if the final loss to South Africa was painful.' That defeat, he insists, has forged a mentally tougher team. 'It hurt, but it made us stronger,' he added. Ouahbi praised the growth of several players, notably Chamseddine Talbi and Adam Aznou, who are now training with the senior national team. But he was quick to temper expectations. 'We mustn't put pressure on them. Let them grow at their own pace.' Preparation for the tournament has been meticulous. The squad is currently holding training camps in Morocco for home-based Botola players, before heading to Spain and Argentina for a series of friendlies. 'It's all about getting the group ready for the challenge in Chile,' said Ouahbi. He ended with a call to Moroccan supporters: 'Playing in a World Cup is an honour. It's a chance to raise the national flag high and show what the future of Moroccan football looks like.' The FIFA U20 World Cup, to be held in Chile this year, brings together the world's top youth sides. Morocco will be making only their third appearance, having last qualified in 2005. The tournament, seen as a football fest for emerging talent, has previously launched the careers of global stars like Lionel Messi, Neymar, Vinicius Jr, and Paul Pogba. Stoke City Closes in on RS Berkane's Lamine Camara

RS Berkane star Lamine Camara is close to joining Stoke City, after a swift agreement between the two clubs, during the current summer transfer window. Camara, 21-years-old, made 25 appearances in Morocco's Botola during the 2024–25 campaign, participated in nine Confederation Cup matches, and had a single appearance in the Throne Cup. The Senegalese midfielder has already arrived in England, as scheduled, to undergo his medical examination with Stoke City, before finalizing the deal. As reported by Micky Jnr, the contract offer for Lamine Camara is a four-year deal. RS Berkane wants €4–5 million for Camara, making it one of the biggest deals in the club's history. Yet the player's market value is estimated at €1.4 million on Transfer Market. The talented Senegalese midfielder played a pivotal role in RS Berkane, winning both the league title and the CAF Confederation Cup, in addition to being voted as the Best Foreign Player in the Moroccan league for the 2024–25 season. Camara has represented Senegal at every level — U17, U20, U23, and he now plays with the senior national team. With his impressive record he has taken the interest of many clubs, including Crystal Palace, Fenerbahçe, Atletico Madrid, Villarreal, Udinese, and Bologna. Tags: Lamine CamaraRS BerkaneStoke City

Wydad Athletic make announcement on Rulani Mokwena

Wydad Athletic have confirmed the departure of Rulani Mokwena as head coach, weeks after the South African was placed on 'special leave' at the Moroccan giants. Mokwena did not take charge of Wydad's last three games as they ended third in the top flight Botola, though an official announcement he was leaving was reportedly delayed over details to be ironed out or disagreements over how to terminate the remainder of his three-year contract. Third place might not be considered such a poor a finish for a team that placed sixth in 2023-24 and has reportedly had financial troubles. However, results could not come consistently enough for Wydad's management as they seek a return to Champions League football for the 2017 and 2021-22 winners and 2018-19 and 2022-23 runners-up. Wydad, which ended the Botola on 54 points from 30 games, won their last three games as Amine Benhachem took over as caretaker coach.
