2nd Heritage Conference refutes Western travellers' writings on UAE
Conference Highlights Critical Reflections Dr Bounama stated that the programme held alongside the Second Heritage Conference — under the theme "Folk Heritage Through the Eyes of Others" — discussed a selection of valuable topics presented by a group of researchers. These researchers delivered interventions centred on the records and accounts written by Western travellers. Understanding the Western Perception of the Region In remarks to 'Sharjah 24,' Bounama added that these academic approaches aim to understand the image that has formed in the Western mind through travel writings, impressions, and observations. He pointed out that the programme shed light on the most prominent manifestations and features that have remained embedded in the Western imagination about the Arab region.

Dr Muna Bounama: The Sharjah Cultural Café discusses Arab heritage
In a statement to Sharjah 24, Dr. Bounama noted that the cultural café addressed several topics related to Arab and Emirati heritage, including artificial intelligence and its relation to heritage, the importance of travel literature in documenting Arab and specifically Emirati folk heritage, the similarities and differences in Arab folk poetry, and the future of geographical heritage. Bounama added that the café is accompanied by several valuable publications launched by the institute, including "Al-Larain: The Currency of Land and Sea" by Dr. Moataz Osman, "Puppet Arts in Arab Heritage" by Dr. Adnan Saloum, and "The Date Palms of the United Arab Emirates in the Writings of Western Travelers" by Dr. Ali Afifi, in addition to the book "The Western House" published by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, which was launched by Dr. Abdulaziz Muslim, the institute's chairman, in honor of the legacy left by the late urban expert Abdul Sattar Al-Izzawi.
