2025 Subaru Forester Price and Specs Revealed for Australia

With a debut at the Chicago Auto Show earlier in the year, Subaru has officially revealed price and specifications for the new Forester (priced from AUD$43,490 plus on-roads), a week after Toyota unveiled the latest generation of their top-selling car in Australia, the Toyota RAV4. To put this new Forester release in context, the RAV4 was the top-selling vehicle in Australia in 2024 with 58,718 vehicles sold, but that number looks tiny when you compare it to the sales in the United States, where the RAV4 outsold the Ford F-150 for the first time, according to Jato Dynamics data. F-150 sales dropped 5 per cent to 460,915 in 2024. Meanwhile, Toyota RAV4 registrations increased by 9 per cent to 475,193, and it seems this is the wake-up call that Subaru needed, unveiling the new model shortly after the sales figures were announced. Now, Subaru Australia is ready to bring the top-selling Forester to market, and it's going to be their most important model release in decades as it shapes up to become the best alternative to the RAV4 and other competitors like the Mitsubishi Outlander as it will be available from mid-2025 in both hybrid and non-hybrid formats. While yet to be released, the current-generation Toyota RAV4 starts from AUD$42,260 plus on-roads. Let's take a closer look! 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid | Image: Subaru USA What's Under the Bonnet of the New Subaru Forester? You'll have two powertrain options available with the new Subaru Forester in Australia: Non-hybrid Subaru Foresters (priced from AUD$43,490 plus on-roads) will be powered by: Engine : 2.5-litre horizontally opposed Boxer 4-cylinder : 2.5-litre horizontally opposed Boxer 4-cylinder Power : 136kW @ 5,800rpm : 136kW @ 5,800rpm Torque : 247Nm @ 3,700rpm : 247Nm @ 3,700rpm Transmission : Lineartronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) with: 8-speed manual mode Broader gear ratio range (8.1) Retuned for stronger take-off acceleration Lower 1st and reverse gears for increased performance on hills : Lineartronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) with: Fuel economy : 7.9 litres/100km (combined) : 7.9 litres/100km (combined) Fuel tank capacity : 63L : 63L Towing: 1,800kg braked, 750kg unbraked Hybrid Subaru Foresters (from AUD$46,490 plus on-roads) will be powered by: Engine : 2.5-litre Boxer petrol engine with 90kW electric motor and 1.1kWh lithium-ion battery Power : 121kW @ 5,600 rpm Torque : 212Nm @ 4,000–4,400 rpm : 2.5-litre Boxer petrol engine with 90kW electric motor and 1.1kWh lithium-ion battery Combined system output : 145kW : 145kW Transmission : TH2B Hybrid Transaxle Planetary gearset Integrated secondary electric motor/generator (MG1) : Fuel economy : 6.2L/100km (combined) : 6.2L/100km (combined) Range : Over 1,000km per tank (indicative) : Over 1,000km per tank (indicative) Towing: 1,200kg braked, 750kg unbraked The non-Hybrid 2.5-litre horizontally opposed Boxer 4-cylinder produces 136kW @ 5,800rpm and 247Nm @ 3,700rpm. However, what we're most interested in here is the hybrid Forester, which features a 2.5-litre Boxer petrol engine with a 90kW electric motor powered by a 1.1kWh lithium-ion battery. That figure is similar to the new 2026 Toyota RAV4's 143kW of power, but down compared to the 226kW PHEV variant that has just been announced. Notably, the city fuel economy has jumped by 30 per cent over the naturally aspirated petrol, and even more impressively, this hybrid powertrain delivers an impressive driving range of over 1,000km per tank (based on laboratory results under ADR testing conditions). Unlike the RAV4, the Forester does not have an electric motor powering the rear wheels, and because of this Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, the brand says that it retains a low centre of gravity and optimal handling whilst adding enhanced range. 2025 Subaru Forester Petrol Variant | Image: Supplied / Subaru Australia To add to this, the hybrid Forester also gets a torque vectoring system, vehicle dynamics control and an off-road X-Mode system from the standard petrol model, while the ground clearance stands at a class-leading 220mm. That said, there is an even more off-road-focused Wilderness version in the United States, which comes with the standard petrol engine while having a significant increase in ground clearance at 236mm along with different suspension, all-terrain tyres, and a beefier set of bumpers. It remains to be seen whether Subaru will ever offer this car here in Australia, as it wasn't announced at the release today, but we'd love to see it! 2025 Subaru Forester Mid Spec Hybrid Variant | Image: Supplied / Subaru Australia What's the Interior of the Subaru Forester Like? Every model in the all-new Subaru Forester range will come with a tablet-like 11.6-inch Multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility alongside a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster on 'selected' Hybrid variants. Take note that Satellite navigation will only be built-in on Premium and above models, but a 6-speaker audio system will be included as standard here in Australia, with a Harman Kardon® 10-speaker system with subwoofer on Touring and Hybrid Sport. Of course, like all new Subaru models, the Forester will come with the brand's top-level safety systems, including the Eyesight Driver Assist Technology with active cruise control, innovative Driver Monitoring System, Emergency Driving Stop System, 360-Degree View Monitor, and nine SRS airbags. Importantly for comfort purposes, the seats have been redesigned with ergonomics in mind as they've been developed with anatomy experts to improve lower back and hip support and keep your spine aligned, all the while minimising fatigue on long drives. Heated front seats are standard across all variants, and power-adjustable lumbar support and 8-way electric front seats are available on higher trims. The only way to get leather, however, is on the Touring variants of the Forester that use a Leather and Ultrasuede® (black or brown/black) material. 'Inspired by six generations of adventure, this next-generation Forester features a bold, rugged design, with the confidence of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and renowned X-Mode,' said General Manager of Subaru Australia, Scott Lawrence. 'It's built to take you from city streets to untamed trails with ease. Its revolutionary design brings advanced safety and immersive in-car technology, and enhanced all-terrain capability. We are looking forward to sharing more details on the all-new Forester range in both petrol and hybrid over the coming months.' 2025 Subaru Forester Top Spec Hybrid Variant | Image: Supplied / Subaru Australia When is the New Subaru Forester Coming to Australia? Pre-orders for the new Subaru Forester are available from today, before first vehicle arrivals in Australia begin in July 2025. 'The new-generation Forester is stronger, smarter and more capable than ever — and it's exactly what Australians need from an SUV,' said Scott Lawrence, General Manager, Subaru Australia. 'During local testing it's handled everything we threw at it, from rough country roads, unpredictable weather, steep climbs and changing conditions. It's built to take on real Australian driving, and the addition of Subaru's latest Hybrid technology gives drivers the very best Subaru SUV.' You can place an order for the new Subaru Forester at Subaru Australia's website (linked below) or by contacting your local retailer. 2025 Subaru Forester | Image: Supplied / Subaru Australia Full List of Model Specifications for Subaru Forester in Australia The all-new Subaru Forester will be available in seven variants, this is how the model range is broken down in Australia. Pick n Pay results show recovery is starting to take shape

'This was an important year for Pick n Pay as we executed the first leg of our operational and financial recovery. We are exactly where we said we would be when presenting the strategy last May, and in some aspects we are tracking slightly ahead. Particularly pleasing is the reduction in our Pick n Pay trading loss by 64% after predicting a 50% reduction' The first of its six strategic priorities announced in May last year was to recapitalise the Group. In this financial year, the Group completed its two-step recapitalisation plan, raising R12.5bn through the Pick n Pay rights offer (R4bn) and the Boxer JSE listing (R8.5bn) and restoring the Group to a net cash position of R4.2bn. 'We have started to give much-needed attention to our core Pick n Pay supermarkets and we are pleased to see the early results in reporting positive like-for-like (LfL) sales growth, notwithstanding the sustained pace of new store openings by our competitors in a restrained and competitive market,' said Summers. Company-owned supermarkets delivered consistent gains in sales growth, improving from -0.5% in the 2024 financial year to +3.6% in the period under review. 'Our franchisees have also shown steady positive recovery and the positive LfL momentum has continued in the first eight weeks of FY26,' said Pick n Pay. Summers said some of the loss-making stores that were converted are returning to profitability. Pick n Pay has also started opening new stores and will increasingly refurbish its supermarkets. Pick n Pay Clothing delivered 11.6% growth from standalone stores. It opened 30 company-owned stores during the financial year, to bring the total estate to 415 stores. 'When I returned in October 2023 I stated the recovery of Pick n Pay would be a multiyear process and that things would get worse before they got better. It is our sense that we see this unfortunate chapter bottoming out and we have recalibrated our recovery programme to break even in FY28.' Business Times

Pick n Pay store closures and conversions drive profitability

South African retailer Pick n Pay is making steady strides in its turnaround strategy, significantly narrowing losses and delivering strong performances in digital and clothing segments as it restructures its store portfolio. For the financial year ending 2 March 2025, the group reported a headline loss reduction of over 60%, supported by a focused recovery strategy that included the closure or conversion of 40 loss-making supermarkets across South Africa. 'Steady progress has been made over the past 18 months,' the group noted, highlighting improved like-for-like sales, which grew from -0.5% in H2 FY24 to 3.6% in H2 FY25. As part of the group's efficiency drive: 25 company-owned Pick n Pay supermarkets were closed 7 were converted into franchise stores 8 were rebranded as company-owned Boxer stores In total, 15 Pick n Pay stores, including 7 liquor stores, were converted to Boxer-branded outlets during the year. These stores have since shown increased performance under the Boxer brand, affirming the group's repositioning efforts. As of March 2025, the total Pick n Pay supermarket footprint dropped by a net 45 stores, leaving the group with 570 supermarkets, including 289 company-owned stores, 21 hypermarkets, and 260 franchises. The Pick n Pay segment's trading loss for FY25 declined to R549 million from R1.5 billion in FY24 – a reduction of approximately R1 billion. This improvement was largely driven by a second-half swing to profitability, with a R170 million profit in H2 FY25, compared to an R864 million loss in H2 FY24. While core supermarkets face continued challenges, Pick n Pay is seeing strong growth in its clothing and online operations. Pick n Pay Clothing added a net 30 new stores, bringing its total to 415 locations. Like-for-like sales increased 7.7%, with 11.6% turnover growth from standalone stores. Despite a slow start due to port delays and late seasonal changes, H2 like-for-like sales grew 3.8%, which the group says is encouraging given the high base. Meanwhile, the retailer's online retail business surged, with FY25 turnover growing by 48.7% year-on-year. Online sales, driven by the Asap mobile app and its partnership with Mr D, are now profitable on a fully costed basis. The group reported triple-digit growth from franchise stores using Asap, highlighting growing adoption of the platform beyond company-owned stores. As part of its digital overhaul: The Asap platform was fully re-engineered over 18 months over 18 months A new Asap app launched in April 2025 , integrating Smart Shopper , value-added services, and AI-driven features , integrating , value-added services, and A revamped Pick n Pay website will debut with Asap on-demand service on 1 June 2025 The app remains in beta testing until September 2025, with new feature rollouts expected throughout FY2026. Pick n Pay's leadership believes the multi-pronged recovery strategy is gaining traction, with profitable momentum in Boxer, digital, and clothing segments supporting the broader turnaround. The focus going forward will remain on profitable growth, operational efficiency, and accelerated digital transformation as the group continues to reshape its retail model in a highly competitive market. Foye Wade Davis still missing from Jacinto, Mississippi, after going on a walk with his dog nearly 3 years ago

Foye Wade Davis had a reputation for being a walker. 'He has walked anywhere from five to eight miles for probably ten years or more,' his daughter, Sharon Clemmer, told Dateline. 'He's an avid walker.' According to his daughter, 78-year-old Wade had a few routes he liked to take near the home he shared with his wife in Jacinto, Mississippi. 'Typically, his walk was a route that made a circle around their house,' Sharon said. 'He was raised there. He's been there all his life, so it was an area he was very, very familiar with.' On Wednesday, June 22, 2022, Wade set out for a walk around 9 a.m. with his dog Buddy — a brindle Boxer. He never returned. Sharon told Dateline that, in 2022, her father had been experiencing early symptoms of dementia. They were mild enough, however, that they hadn't stopped him from living his life the way he always had. Wade is the father of 4, the grandfather of 12, and the great-grandfather of 12. According to Sharon, he remembered all of them well. 'He knew us all,' she said. 'He was still allowed to drive, per the doctor.' Wade was also a preacher at a small church. 'He had his sermon started — prepared for Sunday,' Sharon said. 'Wednesday, he would have been doing a Bible class that night. And he had that prepared, also.' That Wednesday morning, June 22, 2022, Wade got into a small disagreement with his wife, Sue. 'It was something about doing the dishes and mowing the yard,' Alcorn County Sheriff Ben Caldwell told Dateline. 'So he just took his dog for a walk just to kind of cool off, or just — he did that pretty much every day, anyway.' According to Sheriff Caldwell, Wade and Buddy left the house around 9 a.m. At around 9:20 a.m., Wade could be seen on a home security camera about half a mile from his house. 'They did have video cameras and he was on camera walking north past that residence,' Caldwell said. A witness reported seeing Wade about 10 minutes later walking north on County Road 343. Sheriff Caldwell says this is believed to be the last sighting of Wade Davis. According to his family, Wade's walks would sometimes take place off of County Road 343 — a gravel road which veers onto several former logging or hunting trails surrounded by wooded areas. 'He would typically walk those logging trails — old logging trails — and would be gone several hours,' Sheriff Caldwell told Dateline. 'Around lunchtime — around 12, 12:30, when he didn't come back — [Wade's wife] got a little concerned.' Caldwell says Sue Davis reported her husband missing to the sheriff's office around 2:45 p.m. that same day and the search began immediately. 'It was a very intense search,' he said, explaining that multiple agencies — including several sheriff's offices, fire departments, and search and rescue teams — participated in the initial efforts. A Silver Alert was also sent out by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, which assisted with the investigation. Wade's two daughters, Sharon Clemmer and Sheila Tice, both of whom live about an hour from their parents, drove to Jacinto immediately after hearing their father was missing. 'By the time we got there, it was 4 or 5,' Sheila told Dateline. 'There was Homeland Security trailers there, police cars, emergency rescue vehicles.' The sisters described the scene as overwhelming. 'The scene was devastating,' Sharon said. 'We were thankful they were there, but it was very shocking.' According to Sheriff Caldwell, officials quickly found Wade's footprints in the area he was last seen walking. 'It was very clear it was a New Balance shoe. You can see the NB on the sole of the shoe and there was also dog tracks alongside his footprints,' he told Dateline. 'We found those all over that area.' The footprints told a story. 'It wasn't like he would just walk down a trail, turn around, come back onto the main road,' Sheriff Caldwell said. 'It appeared he would walk through the woods, come out to another trail and come back out to the main road. And actually from the information we gathered from, you know, his family and other individuals in that community, that was — that was a regular thing for him to do.' Caldwell says officers were unable to track Wade's footprints in the more heavily-wooded areas that surrounded the trails. The department used thermal drones at night in its attempt to locate him in those areas. Officers searched 'day and night' for about five days. 'And then at that point it became — we started searching during daylight hours trying to give us the best option to locate him,' Caldwell explained. On-foot daytime searches continued for about a week after that. 'And then it got to a point,' he said, 'there was nowhere else to search.' Two weeks after Wade disappeared, volunteers found Buddy about half a mile from home. 'That dog — when he came back, it did not have a collar on it,' Sheriff Caldwell said. On the security video of the last known sighting of Wade, Buddy can be seen with both a collar and leash on. The Alcorn County Sheriff's Office took Buddy to a veterinarian, who gave him some medication to empty out his stomach contents in the hope that it would give the department a clue as to where he'd been for the prior two weeks. 'We found some pine needles and some green leaves,' Sheriff Caldwell said. 'That kind of put us in an area of those woods, where that dog might have been. But, you know, it didn't unfortunately didn't lead us [to Wade].' Sheriff Caldwell says the department does not believe Wade Davis met with foul play. 'The evidence points to — is that he either had a medical episode, he got turned around — got lost in those wooded areas,' he said. 'Obviously, we — we don't take anything off the table.' As the third anniversary of Wade's disappearance approaches, his family just wants answers. 'That's all we can think about. That's all we want to do — is search for Dad,' Sheila Tice told Dateline. 'We wake up thinking about where he might be. We can't sleep.' Sharon Clemmer says that through this process their faith in God has grown stronger. 'Dad lived and breathed the Bible.' she said. 'We know that, no matter what, God was with him.' Wade is 5'7' and weighed approximately 200 lbs. at the time of his disappearance. He has white hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing dark blue jeans, a checked short-sleeved shirt, and brown New Balance tennis shoes. He would be 80 years old today. Anyone with information about the disappearance of Foye Wade Davis is asked to contact the Alcorn County Sheriff's Office at 662-286-5521.
