2 men, 2 boys arrested for Minneapolis crime spree that injured 2

Four people, including three teenagers, were arrested Tuesday in connection to a Minneapolis crime spree that left two men injured last week. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara says officers arrested a 34-year-old man, a 19-year-old man and two 17-year-old boys on suspicion of several burglaries, a robbery, a carjacking and a shots fired incident that occurred between 5 and 6:30 a.m. on Feb. 11. During a burglary on the 4100 block of 25th Avenue South, two of the suspects were seen on surveillance camera footage pointing their guns toward a home across the alley from them before one of them fired their gun. A 54-year-old man who had been looking out his second-floor window at the ongoing burglary was struck by the bullet. He is expected to recover. "I want full sentence for them," said Boyd Hansen, the man struck by a bullet while looking out his window. "It's just been a huge relief off me that they're off the street." Shortly after the man was shot, a carjacking happened on the 5100 block of 34th Avenue South. Two additional burglaries were reported in the area. Police say an aggravated robbery and shooting happened on the 2300 block of 32nd Street East, where a 25-year-old man was shot. He suffered potentially life-threatening injuries. The final incident of the crime spree was a shots fired call, where police say the suspects were seen exiting a white sedan and shooting a gun. Officers recovered the car connected to the crimes — a white sedan — as well as the vehicle they had stolen — a gray Mazda SUV — later the same day. On Tuesday, O'Hara says investigators conducted a surveillance operation on the 2400 block of Bloomington Avenue that resulted in the arrests as well as the recovery of potential evidence. The Minneapolis Police Department says it will be presenting a case file to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office for consideration of charges.

Two men, two boys arrested over Feb. 11 crime spree in Minneapolis

Four arrests have been made in connection to the "brazen" crime spree in Minneapolis last week. Minneapolis PD announced that two men aged 34 and 19 and two 17-year-old boys were taken into custody on Tuesday, following a run of six crimes in less than two hours on Tuesday, Feb. 11. The arrests were made at a property on the 2400 block of Bloomington Avenue after the suspects had been identified by investigators. Between 5 a.m. and 6:50 a.m., police received reports of an aggravated robbery and a burglary – both involving victims being shot – a carjacking, a shots-fired incident, and another burglary at various locations in south Minneapolis. A Ring camera captured three of the suspects during the first burglary, of a garage, which ended with two of the suspects opening fire at Boyd Hansen, 54, who was looking out of his window nearby, and was seriously wounded as a result. The four suspects are now awaiting charges from the Hennepin County Attorney's Office. "The MPD remains steadfast in its mission to hold violent offenders accountable and ensure justice for victims," O'Hara said. "Our investigators have meticulously built this case based on evidence and facts, working in coordination with prosecuting authorities, and we are confident all those responsible for terrorizing residents during this violent crime spree are in custody." The six incidents were as follows: 5:04 a.m. – Burglary and shooting at 4100 block of 25th Avenue South Three suspects broke into garage and then fired shots towards a house as they were leaving, striking 54-year-old Boyd Hansen, who was looking out of an upstairs window. He suffered a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center. "There were other reports of possible forced entry into garages in the area," MPD says. 5:16 a.m. – Carjacking at 5100 block of 34th Avenue South A 29-year-old man was carjacked at gunpoint, with four male suspects arriving in a white sedan, taking the man's grey SUV. The suspects left in both vehicles, with the Mazda later recovered. 5:32 a.m. – Burglary at 4026 26th Ave. S. A garage door was forced open by 3-4 suspects who arrived in a white sedan. One of them was armed. Nothing was taken, but one of the doors had signs of forced entry. 5:41 a.m. – Shooting at 2100 block of East Lake Street A 25-year-old man was found with a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound inside a Lake Street house. He said he had been shot near the 2300 block of 32nd Street East. "Preliminary information indicates that he was shot during a robbery involving three male suspects in a white sedan," MPD says. 6:17 a.m. – Burglary at 4915 31st Ave. S. A garage door was forced open at the address, with witnesses giving a similar description to the suspects in the other incidents. "A vehicle inside the garage had a smashed window. There is no known loss. The occupant of the home was not injured." 6:49 a.m. – Shots fired at 4908 32nd Ave. S. Occupants of a white sedan parked in an alley "got out and fired off shots." Nobody was injured.

Minneapolis community rallies around man shot during 'brazen' crime spree

Donations are pouring in for a Minneapolis man left with life-threatening injuries when he was shot during what police called a "brazen" series of crimes. Boyd Hansen, 54, awoke Tuesday morning to noises coming from outside and looked out the window. He was then shot by two young men who were breaking into nearby garages. The incident, which occurred on the 4100 block of 25th Avenue South, was caught on a Ring camera. Hansen was left with 'severe' jaw damage and a bullet lodged in his shoulder, according to a GoFundMe created to support him as he recovers. According to a Wednesday update, Hansen had undergone shoulder surgery. 'Boyd is self-employed and does not have health insurance. Funds raised will go toward medical expenses and time away from work,' the fundraiser reads. As of Friday, the fundraiser had reached around $16,000 of its $30,000 goal. The incident was the first in a string of six crimes — including aggravated robbery, burglary, carjacking and shots fired — carried out in less than two hours. Three suspects are wanted in connection with the crime spree. "The brazen violence committed by these individuals cannot be tolerated by anyone in our city,' Minneapolis Police Department Chief Brian O'Hara said in a statement following the crimes.
