Carlton has parted ways with football boss Brad Lloyd in the first big domino to fall at Ikon Park following the decision to back senior coach Michael Voss for 2026. The Blues on Tuesday morning confirmed Lloyd would depart the club after seven seasons in the first big change to their football department under new chief executive Graham Wright amid a disappointing 7-14 season. While the club last week said it was committed to Voss coaching into 2026, there could be more changes to the Blues' football department including Voss' assistant coaches set to come under scrutiny. Lloyd has been the head of Carlton's football operations since August 2018 in a period the club has had three different senior coaches, Brendan Bolton, David Teague and Voss. Lloyd, who was previously Fremantle's list manager, said he was proud of the progress of the Blues since he first arrived including consecutive bottom three finishes in his first two full seasons. 'It has been a privilege to see the growth of our football program over the last seven years,' Lloyd said in a statement. 'To arrive here at the end of a two-win season in 2018 and progress to finals and a preliminary final — it has been off the back of an incredible amount of hard work from so many good Carlton people. 'The best part of this job is seeing people growing and working so closely together to strive to achieve a common goal, and I want to sincerely thank all of our staff for their contribution towards that. 'It has been an honour to lead this football department and work for the same club my father represented. I firmly believe it is full of great people with great values, and strong foundations have been established here to take the club forward.' Wright thanked Lloyd for his service. 'Firstly, I want to thank Brad for his tireless effort and commitment to our football club over his seven years of service,' Wright said. 'Brad has been a central part of Carlton in recent years: he has progressed and led the football department through some significant adversity during that time, as well as back-to-back finals appearances. 'Brad's commitment to see out the final two weeks of the season speaks to his dedication and care for those around him. He is a great football person, well-respected right throughout the industry, and we wish Brad the very best for what the next chapter holds for him. 'The recruitment process for the general manager of football role will commence immediately. While there is no set timeline, we will be sure to update our members once this appointment has been made.' The new Carlton chief said he was continuing to to assess the club's overall operations since gaining a 'thorough understanding of every aspect of our football club' arriving at the club last October in a handover with Brian Cook. 'In recent months, particular attention has been given to the football department in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of our AFL program,' Wright said. 'I appreciate the open dialogue I have been afforded by our players, coaches and staff – with every conversation centred around what is best for Carlton and how our club can succeed. 'Successful clubs don't rely on individuals; they are a product of collective excellence across many areas and that is what we are striving to build. 'While clearly our primary focus is on improving football performance — and despite excelling in other areas across the club — my observation is that there is great upside to enhance the connection and integration with our supporters. 'We want to earn respect in this competition, making our people proud to wear the monogram. We have an opportunity to further strengthen our connection as a Carlton community and make sure every member feels the strongest sense of belonging possible. 'We want our members to help shape that – it takes a whole of club approach, so we will work really hard to build that across our Carlton family into the summer and throughout next year. 'Achieving this will be critical in ensuring our club can progress to the level all Carlton people aspire our football club to reach.' Carlton begins football department revamp by axing Brad Lloyd

The promised shake-up of Carlton's football department has begun with football boss Brad Lloyd set to exit the Blues after seven years in his role. It comes after the club's board backed in coach Michael Voss to continue into 2026 despite a failed campaign this season but promised a review of the football operations. Outgoing Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley has been linked to Carlton in an off-field role to help Voss, with others including Brisbane's Danny Daly possible additions to the Blues' football staff. Lloyd joined Carlton in August 2018 and outlasted two coaches, Brendon Bolton and David Teague. Lloyd worked with Voss since his appointment in 2023 and will see out the remainder of the season before moving on. 'Brad's commitment to see out the final two weeks of the season speaks to his dedication and care for those around him,' new Blues chief executive Graham Wright said. 'He is a great football person, well respected right throughout the industry, and we wish Brad the very best for what the next chapter holds for him. 'The recruitment process for the general manager of football role will commence immediately. While there is no set timeline, we will be sure to update our members once this appointment has been made.' After nearly staging a stunning comeback against the Gold Coast Suns last weekend, Voss said the club's backing was a move towards maturity and the impact would only be proven over time. 'That's a hard one for me to answer, a genuine intangible. Maybe in time we can look back and find out what it meant, but I really hope we're building an environment that's consistent,' he said. 'We understand that there's always things going on around us, always a conversation that's going on around us, but we've got to be mature enough as performers to know what to listen to and what not to. We're trying to normalise that and keep it as consistent as we possibly can. 'Hopefully, as a leader and as a group of coaches we're turning up to be there for our players and keep serving our club. I think it's been that way, and to the players' credit they're bringing energy and getting behind our younger players – as a result, you don't have the season you're after, but you're still walking away with something and with small wins.'

Furious footy fan vandalises Carlton AFL team's headquarters with a message that has a surprising twist

A fed up footy fan has resorted to vandalising Carlton's AFL headquarters after the Blues were hammered by Port Adelaide on Thursday night - but there was a twist. It seems the supporter in question - who Victoria Police would like to speak to following the 1am public protest - doesn't believe coach Michael Voss is the problem. The blunt message at IKON Park in Melbourne read: 'Sack the board, sack (Nick) Austin and (Brad) Lloyd. Keep (Michael) Voss. TDK (Tom de Koning) yes or no?' Austin is the club's list manager and Lloyd is the football manager, while de Koning is the young-gun ruckman whose future with the team is up in the air. The Blues sit 11th on the ladder following Thursday's 50-point defeat - and could drop further by the end of round 16. Voss' men need to win six of their remaining eight games to qualify for finals - but after a pedestrian performance against the Power, that is highly unlikely. 'We just didn't come with an appetite to the contest,' Voss said post game. 'What I feel right now as a leader is, I feel really disappointed for our people - we feel like we're creating a great environment but we're not getting the results we're after. 'We're enormously disappointed... but it's time to come together, not isolate.' AFL great Jason Dunstall was scathing in his assessment, labelling the playing group 'devoid of hope.' 'I'm really disappointed with the effort from the Blues,' he said on Fox Footy. 'It really was an insipid performance. 'They are devoid of confidence, they looked to be devoid of hope. 'It's like the football world has just caved in on top of them and they don't know what to do. 'The weight of pressure, they've just collapsed underneath it.' The Blues sit 11th on the ladder following Thursday's 50-point defeat - and could drop further by the end of round 16 (pictured, Carlton star Patrick Cripps leaving the field) The Blues' alarming lack of early fight will trigger fresh debate after Port booted the initial eight goals of a lopsided encounter. 'We just didn't come with an appetite to the contest,' Voss said. 'What I feel right now as a leader is, I feel really disappointed for our people - we feel like we're creating a great environment but we're not getting the results we're after.' Carlton, who next meet ladder leaders Collingwood and then reigning premiers the Brisbane Lions, slipped to 11th on the ladder with six wins and nine losses. The Blues, who will likely be three wins outside the top eight by round's end, also lost creative backman Adam Saad to concussion. Saad was felled by a shoulder bump from Port ruckman Dante Visentini which sparked a prolonged push-and-shove between a mass of players at halftime. Saad's injury came during Carlton's horror opening half - and instead of a steely response to last week's shock 11-point loss to North Melbourne, the Blues didn't offer a yelp.
