Dolphins bring in a veteran corner, but Miami's offer turned down. Search continues

The Dolphins, in need of two veteran starting cornerbacks, hosted former Bills starter Rasul Douglas on a recent visit but the sides could not agree to a contract. According to a source, the Dolphins made an offer that was rejected. Though the door wasn't ruled out on further contact and negotiations, Douglas has moved on to a Tuesday visit with the Seattle Seahawks, which are considered a good scheme fit. Douglas met with Dolphins officials and coaches during his visit last week, but the two sides weren't very close on their financial visions for a deal. Miami needs two starters to replace Kendall Fuller (who was released and remains unsigned) and Jalen Ramsey, whom the team said it intends to trade in what Miami calls a mutual decision. Aside from nickel cornerback Kader Kohou, the Dolphins don't have a proven starting cornerback on their team. Their other corners under contract: former second-round pick Cam Smith, Storm Duck, Kendall Sheffield (who signed Monday after a weekend tryout but hasn't started a game since 2020), rookie fifth-rounder Jason Marshall Jr., undrafted rookies BJ Adams and Ethan Robinson, Jason Maitre, Artie Burns, Isaiah Johnson and Ethan Bonner. One of the best remaining unsigned cornerbacks, former Fort Lauderdale Thomas Aquinas star Asante Samuel Jr., underwent neck surgery in April, ESPN reported this week. Samuel, who visited the Saints on Monday, has a check-up scheduled in early July, after which he will meet with several teams. ESPN said he will be available to play this season. The other veteran corners still available include: ▪ James Bradberry: A second-team All Pro in 2022, Bradberry missed last season's Eagles Super Bowl run because of a torn Achilles sustained in a late August practice. He had 19 interceptions and 112 passes defended in eight seasons. He recently visited the Bills, and there was initial contact between the Dolphins and Bradberry's camp a few weeks ago, but it's unclear if Miami will pursue him. ▪ Mike Hilton: The Bengals' skilled 5-9 nickel corner made 10 starts for the Bengals and had a 92 passer rating against. He was linked to Miami early in free agency. If the Dolphins sign Hilton as their top nickel corner, Kohou likely would play on the boundary instead of nickel corner. ▪ Stephon Gilmore: He made 15 starts for Minnesota, at age 34, and had a 94.1 passer rating against. He's past his prime but still a decent player. ▪ CJ Henderson: The former ninth overall pick played in 12 games and started seven for Carolina and had a 106.8 passer rating against. It would be difficult to project him as a starter. ▪ Jack Jones: His career started promisingly as a fourth-round pick of New England in 2022, but he struggled with the Raiders, allowing 10 touchdown receptions that overshadowed his three interceptions last season. He also permitted a 115.8 passer rating in his coverage area and allowed 11 completions of 20 plus yards. The Raiders released him April 6 after failing to find a trade partner. Jones had five picks in 24 games with the Raiders, who signed him after New England cut him during the 2023 season more than a week after he missed curfew before a game. He had two interceptions for New England in both 2022 and 2023. Among others available: Emmanuel Mosley, Fuller, ex-Dolphin Xavien Howard (who didn't play last season), Daryl Worley, Cam Sutton and Fabian Moreau. Hill update Agent Drew Rosenhaus said on his weekly Fox-7 segment that Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill's second wrist procedure last week was planned and involved 'taking the pins out' and 'the recovery is going great' and 'we expect him to be ready for the start of training camp.'

Buffalo Bills host CB James Bradberry on free-agent visit ahead of 2025 NFL draft

Buffalo Bills host CB James Bradberry on free-agent visit ahead of 2025 NFL draft Veteran CB James Bradberry is making a free-agent visit to the #Bills today, per source. Bradberry has ties to Buffalo GM Brandon Beane and HC Sean McDermott, who were with Carolina when the Panthers drafted him in 2016. — Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) April 16, 2025 The Buffalo Bills have having a look at the free agency pool ahead of the 2025 NFL draft via James Bradberry. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the veteran cornerback had a pre-draft, free-agent visit in Buffalo this past week: Bradberry, 31 has, his connections to the Bills coaching staff. While it it has been a long time since this has happened, Bradberry is tied to Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott from their time together with the Carolina Panthers. The cornerback was a second-round pick of the team in 2016 when McDermott was Carolina's defensive coordinator. Early on in McDermott's tenure as Buffalo's head coach, he was often sign players with connections to the Panthers Bradberry would end up spending four seasons with Carolina before signing with the New York Giants in free agency. After two campaigns in New York, Bradberry signed to play for the Philadelphia Eagles. While Bradberry has plenty of NFL experience, he does not have much recently. He missed the Eagles' entire Super Bowl run in 2024 due to an Achilles injury. Bradberry has played in 125 regular season games across all three stops and has 478 tackles, 19 interceptions, three sacks, four forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries for his career. In 16 games played in 2023, Pro Football Focus graded Bradberry a 56.6 overall. While the Bills are expressing interest in Bradberry, it's unlikely that he would be signed until after the upcoming draft. A second wave of free agency typically hits the NFL following the draft as teams don't always fill every need during it. Bills Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2025 offseason.

Former Panther visits Buffalo in hopes of resurrecting career

James Bradberry isn't done yet — and the Buffalo Bills just might be the team that gives him his next shot. Once a cornerstone of the Carolina Panthers' secondary, Bradberry is reportedly visiting Buffalo ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. While his recent seasons have been clouded by injury, the timing of this visit — and the connections behind it — raise serious questions about a potential reunion rooted in trust, familiarity, and need. Advertisement Drafted 62nd overall by Carolina in 2016, Bradberry developed under the leadership of then-defensive coordinator Sean McDermott and assistant GM Brandon Beane — both of whom now steer the ship in Buffalo. In four seasons with the Panthers, Bradberry totaled 279 tackles, 47 pass deflections, and eight interceptions. His physicality and football IQ made him a fixture in Carolina's defense. Beane and McDermott already know what Bradberry brings on and off the field — and that trust matters, especially for a team in win-now mode. The Bills' cornerback room has talent, but not a clear-cut starter opposite Christian Benford. With Rasul Douglas still unsigned and no proven CB2 locked in, Bradberry's arrival could ease pressure on draft weekend. His last start — a 2023 performance vs. Buffalo that included five pass breakups and a pick — is proof he can still compete at a high level when healthy. Bradberry missed the Eagles' 2024 Super Bowl run due to a torn Achilles, but don't count him out just yet. At 31, he's motivated to prove he's still got juice — and Buffalo is known for embracing redemption arcs. With veterans like Von Miller and Jordan Poyer having thrived later in their careers, the Bills could offer the perfect environment for Bradberry's bounce back. Former Eagles CB James Bradberry to visit the Bills

Former Eagles CB James Bradberry to visit the Bills After a quiet start to the first and second waves, James Bradberry is in Buffalo to meet with the Bills on Wednesday, Jeremy Fowler reports. The Eagles are retooling their defensive secondary. One day after releasing Darius Slay, the team released cornerback James Bradberry. Slay signed with the Steelers, Isaiah Rodgers with the Vikings, and Avonte Maddox signed with the Lions. After a quiet start to the first and second waves, Bradberry is in Buffalo to meet with the Bills on Wednesday, Jeremy Fowler reports. Bills head coach Sean McDermott and General Manager Brandon Beane were both in the Panthers organization when Bradberry was drafted in 2016. Placed on injured reserve with an Achilles injury after roster cutdown day at the end of training camp, Bradberry didn't play a down this season but was a vital help to Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean and will get a Super Bowl ring. Bradberry was entering the final year of a three-year, $38 million extension signed after the 2022 season, and the Eagles would save $4.724 million in cap space if they designated Bradberry as a post-June 1 cut.

Darius Slay Jr. and James Bradberry to Pittsburgh? Steelers should sign once-great CB duo

Darius Slay Jr. and James Bradberry to Pittsburgh? Steelers should sign once-great CB duo 'One team's trash is another team's treasure' is typically how the Pittsburgh Steelers choose to handle free agency acquisitions. Instead of putting all their chips on one player, the Steel City will typically choose to go the 'Moneyball' route and attempt to sign undervalued, cheaper veteran options—which is where former Eagles CBs Darius Slay Jr. and James Bradberry come into play. Bradberry, age 31, and Slay, age 34, both were recently released in favor of the Eagles new elite CB duo—Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper Dejean. Bradberry and Slay were pivotal pieces of the Eagles' 2022 Super Bowl run, and while it had ultimately resulted in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the two veteran CBs played at an incredibly high level that season. The Pittsburgh Steelers will undoubtedly seek to make a huge splash signing with almost $60 million to spend this 2025 offseason, but if the team choose to save that for a star defensive lineman or an elite wide receiver, Slay and Bradberry would help form an excellent coverage unit in conjunction with the Steel City's young star CB Joey Porter Jr. for cheap.
