Regina Red Sox storm back to defeat Sylvan Lake, claiming first WCBL championship since 2012
The Regina Red Sox are the 2025 Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) champions after defeating the Sylvan Lake Gulls in a winner-take-all Game 3 5-4 Saturday. It is the Red Sox's third championship in franchise history, but their first since winning back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012. Regina lost the first game of the series at home Thursday 3-2 in an extra innings thriller. Facing elimination on the road Friday night and behind two runs, Regina scored six in the top of the 9th inning and win 10-7 to force the decisive Game 3. The Red Sox would get out early on the Gulls in the final game. A base hit from Regina-product Brady Bye would lead to a Sylvan Lake error which allowed Rafael Jackson to score the game's opening run. Shortstop Matthew Fox shinned again, going 3/4, scoring one run. Starting pitcher Chris Spry would work into the 5th inning, giving up just three runs on three hits. After getting into a bases loaded jam, Ayden Page would come out of the bullpen and shut down the Gulls. Page would finish the game on the mound, pitching 5 innings, giving up just one earned run on 6 hits, striking out 6 batters - earning the victory for Regina. Sylvan Lake took the lead in the fifth, but Regina would regain the lead in the seventh and never lose it from there. Red Sox squash record-breaking Berries team to advance to WCBL championship
The Regina Red Sox are going to the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) Final after defeating the Saskatoon Berries 6-2 in Game 3 of the East Division Final Tuesday night. On the road, Regina got out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Only for Saskatoon to immediately tie the game at one in the bottom half. Red Sox all-stars Matthew Fox and Brady Bye would seal the game in the 7th inning with back-to-back RBI doubles to give Regina a 4-run lead. Reliever Ayden Page would close out the ball game pitching 3.2 innings scoreless innings, giving up just two hits, a walk and striking out two Saskatoon batters. The berry pie has been made. FANS, WE ARE GOING TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP ❤️😤🔥 — Regina Red Sox (@ReginaRedSox) August 13, 2025 The Berries' season ends after they set a league record, 46 wins in the regular season. In their two playoff series against Moose Jaw and the Red Sox, Saskatoon lost both game ones before staying off elimination and force a third game in each series. The win sends the Red Sox to their first WCBL championship since 2019. It is also their seventh appearance in the league final since 2010 – the most of any team in the WCBL. However, Regina has not won a league title in 13 years, when they won back-to-back championships in 2011 and 2012. Regina now readies to take on the Sylvan Lake Gulls in the league final. Sylvan Lake has not lost a game yet this postseason, sweeping the Lethbridge Bulls in the West semi-finals and then Okotoks in the Division final. Game 1 is scheduled for Thursday night at Currie Field, first pitch at 7:05 p.m. Because the Gulls had a better regular season record than Regina, games 2 and 3 will both be at Gulls Stadium.

Saskatoon's win ties the series at one game apiece. Game 3 was set for Friday night at the NexGen Patch at Cairns Field, but the game has been postponed to Saturday night due to inclement weather. 'Any tickets purchased will be valid for the rescheduled game tomorrow,' the team said. We'll see you at the NexGen Patch tomorrow 🤙 — Saskatoon Berries (@StoonBerries) August 8, 2025 If the Berries win Game 3, the first game of the East Division Final against the Red Sox would be hosted in Saskatoon.
