Prithviraj Kapoor had strictly forbidden women of the house from working; Mumtaz was forced to turn down Shammi Kapoor's proposal
Mumtaz was still a newbie in the Hindi movie industry in the 1960s, when she appeared in the hit song 'Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyaar Ke Charche' in the Shammi Kapoor-starrer film Brahmachari. They fell in love as soon as they met and Shammi proposed to her, but Mumtaz had to turn down his proposal despite being in love with him. In a recent interview, Mumtaz said that Prithviraj Kapoor, the father of Shammi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor and Raj Kapoor, had a strict rule for the women of the house, and especially the daughters-in-law. Mumtaz said that Prithviraj forbade them from working so if Mumtaz was to marry Shammi, she would have to give up on her dreams, and she did not want to do that. In a chat with Radio Nasha Official, Mumtaz recalled, 'He proposed to me. Papaji (Prithviraj Kapoor) was very particular. He didn't want that the daughter-in-law should work, as simple as that. So Shammi ji told me that he doesn't want you to work, you have to give up and I was very ambitious. I said mujhe kaam karna hai (I want to work). He said Papaji is saying no.' Mumtaz shared that it was during this time that Raj Kapoor was casting for Mera Naam Joker, and she lost out on a role in the film because he did not want to go against his father's rules. 'There was one role where they cast that foreigner woman. Raj ji took my pictures and I was looking so beautiful because I was much younger so he asked Shammi ji, 'Shammi tu shaadi kar raha hai kya? (Shammi, are you getting married?)' He said, 'I don't know, it depends'. Obviously, he didn't know for himself so Raj ji said, 'I can't take you because there is this rule in the house',' she recalled. 'I don't blame them. They are right and this was their rule. Now the younger generation has started working. Earlier, they made Geeta Bali leave her work as well. And I respect that Papaji had this rule. Even today, there are so many people who don't approve of their wife's job,' she said. Shammi had been previously married to Geeta Bali, until she passed in 1965. He then married Neila Devi in 1969. Mumtaz married businessman Mayur Madhvani in 1974. In the same chat, Mumtaz recalled her last meeting with Shammi Kapoor and teared up. She shared that she was invited to his last birthday by his wife. 'I went there and I saw him sitting on the chair and he was still drinking, I asked him, 'Why are you drinking when you're not well?' And that is the time I came to know… He said he won't live for long so then I said, 'You can drink, enjoy yourself.' He wanted to be happy so I didn't say anything. I sat with him for a while and then I came back home. It was very sad to see him dying,' she said and added, 'He was a wonderful person. He was a bit fussy about choosing because Shammi was such a beautiful man, if he wanted he could have had any woman but he was a very choosy man.' Shammi Kapoor passed away in 2011 at 79.

Worli Sea Face To Reopen As Mumbai Coastal Road Promenade: Why The 7-Year Wait Was Worth It
Last Updated: From Chakke Pe Chakka in Hindi film Brahmachari to coastal road promenade, the Worli sea face, a favourite among fitness enthusiasts and youngsters, has undergone a massive change Mumbai Coastal Road Walkway: Shut for over seven years, Mumbai is set to get back its iconic Worli sea face in a new avatar – a coastal road 7.5-km promenade from Priyadarshini Park at Breach Candy to the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link – by mid-June. The stretch, a favourite for Hindi film songs, fitness enthusiasts, joggers and youngsters, has undergone a considerable transformation over the years. HOW WORLI CHANGED OVER THE YEARS In the 1970s, Worli sea face was primarily a quiet, residential area with a few colonial-era buildings and a coastal road. The promenade was a popular spot for morning walks and evening strolls, offering panoramic views of the Arabian Sea. For Gen Z and those born later, refer to 'Chakke Pe Chakka' song from Hindi film Brahmachari (1968) to see how the older Worli sea face looked. The early 2000s saw the rise of luxury residential complexes and commercial developments. In 2009, the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (officially named Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link) was inaugurated, connecting Worli to Bandra and significantly reducing travel time across the Mahim Bay. Soon, the coastal road project began, to enhance connectivity and urban infrastructure. THE COASTAL ROAD PROMENADE The 20-metre-wide, sea-facing walkway will boost public access and walkability along the city's western coastline. It will have: 20 underpasses spaced every 400 metres, enabling smooth and safe access between the seafront and the inland side of the road. The 17-hectare public space will have a five-hectare central median being developed by Tata Sons and a 12-hectare promenade developed by the BMC. This project is part of a larger vision to create nearly 70 hectares of open space along the coastal road. Approximately 70% of the new space will feature green landscaping, while the remaining 30% will include paved walkways, cycle tracks and public seating areas. 🛣️The Dharmaveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Mumbai Coastal Road Project boasts several distinctive features, prominently showcased on hoardings along the coastal road. Mumtaz breaks down recalling her final meeting with Shammi Kapoor: ‘Agle janam mein milenge'
Actor Mumtaz and Shammi Kapoor worked together in the film Brahmachari. The two made headlines at the time due to their rumoured relationship. Now, in an interview with Radio Nasha, Mumtaz has revealed that Shammi once proposed to her and opened up about their final meeting before his death. (Also Read: Mumtaz will make a Bollywood comeback under one condition: 'Buddhi ka role to karne wali nahi hoon') Talking about how their romance blossomed, Mumtaz revealed that Shammi had proposed to her. However, as his father was strict, he asked her to quit films—something she wasn't ready to do as she wanted to continue working. Mumtaz broke down in tears while recalling her last meeting with Shammi Kapoor. She said, 'He was very ill. It was his last birthday. I was invited by his wife. She said, 'It's his wish that you attend the party.' I was shopping in Bandra at the time and I said I would definitely come. I went there with Asha Patel. He was sitting on a chair, and he was still drinking. From afar, I asked him, 'Why are you still drinking when you're not well?' And that's when I realised he wouldn't live for long. Then I said, 'Okay, enjoy yourself.' He wanted to be happy.' She added, 'I didn't say much to him. I sat beside him for a while and told him to take care of himself. It was very sad to see him dying. Agar kehte hain agle janam mein milte hain toh milenge (If it's said people meet in another life, then perhaps we will). If it's true, I don't know. But he was a wonderful person. He was a little fussy, but such a handsome man. If he had wanted, he could have had many women, but he was very choosy. I think he was incredibly good looking.' Shammi Kapoor was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on 7 August 2011, suffering from chronic kidney failure. He was placed on a ventilator for several days, but sadly passed away on 14 August 2011, at the age of 79. Mumtaz made her acting debut at the age of 11 with the film Lajwanti in 1958. She went on to act in films like Faulad (1963) and Daku Mangal Singh, but these roles led to her being typecast in the industry as a 'stunt heroine', stalling her early career. Despite the setbacks, she rose to become one of the leading actresses in Hindi cinema with hits such as Bandhan, Aadmi Aur Insaan, Sachaa Jhutha, Khilona, and Hare Rama Hare Krishna, among others.

Meet B-grade actress who broke the heart of the Kapoor family's beloved son, rejected marriage proposal of…, she is…
The entertainment industry has always been one of the hot topics when it comes to personal lives, love affairs, divorce rumours and many other things. Be it a hero or a heroine, nobody is spared in the film industry. Today we will tell you about one such actress who gave blockbusters with Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna and Sanjeev Kumar. She was called Shatrughan Sinha's close friend. She had the talent to make films hit on her own, her name alone was sufficient enough to drag the audience to theatres. This actress, who was called Rajesh Khanna's right hand, missed becoming the daughter-in-law of the Kapoor family. Can you recognise which actress are we referring to? The actress in question is none other than, the one and only Mumtaz. The veteran actress gave a tough competition to many big and popular actresses during her prime. In her acting career, Mumtaz won the hearts of the makers and the audience, featured in more than 150 films. Mumtaz's pairing with Dharmendra was considered a hit. Her beauty and talent, soon made her the highest paid actress of that era. She even rejected the marriage proposal of a darling of the Kapoor family. Mumtaz's success didn't come early as compared to other actors, she faced a lot of rejections in the beginning of her acting career. She started her film career at 12. Initially, she appeared only in supporting roles in multiple films. Before making her mark, Mumtaz was a part of B grade films. For the unversed, Mumtz worked in almost 16 films with Dara Singh. In one of the interviews with Vicky Lalwani, Mumtaz revealed that Shammi Kapoor used to work with her in Brahmachari. She liked him and both wanted to get married. Mumtaz said, 'Shammi Kapoor was very handsome. There is nothing to hide in this, I also liked him, but there was a difference of 17 to 18 years in our age, in those days Raj Kapoor was very strict. He said that the daughter-in-law of his family cannot be an actress.' Due to this condition, she rejected Shammi Kapoor's marriage proposal and after this the duo was seen together. For the uninitiated, Shashi Kapoor flatly refused to collaborate with Mumtaz in the film 'Sachcha Jhootha'. He considered Mumtaz as 'Dara Singh's heroine'. Shashi Kapoor even called her a B-grade actor. Saying this, he refused to work with Mumtaz. Later, Mumtaz married big businessman Mayur Madhwani in 1974 and after this she distanced herself from the world of cinema.
