Pneumatic tube transportsystem to start at KGMU
Lucknow: Attendants at KGMU trauma centre will no longer have to run from ward to lab to submit blood samples, as the university is set to introduce a pneumatic tube transport system. Estimated at around Rs 2 crore, the project was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak on Monday. Chief Medical Superintendent of KGMUTC Prof Prem Raj Singh explained that the pneumatic tube transport system is a mechanism for transferring material in bulk. The installation work will commence two months after the tendering process concludes. He further said that the trauma centre includes departments of orthopaedics, general surgery, plastic surgery, neurology, medicine and neurosurgery. It handles a heavy patient load—around 300 to 400 patients daily—keeping the laboratories occupied round-the-clock. As many patients require multiple tests, attendants are frequently seen moving between different counters. The new tube system will minimise the need for attendants to move about. Nurses or paramedical staff will place the samples in a designated container with test and patient details. This container will be transported to the lab via a vacuum-based system, saving both time and effort, Prof Singh added. To further cut down queues for diagnostics, KGMU will soon launch a digital payment facility.

Covid-19 in India: Karnataka man dies, Kerala infections at 430; Delhi cases rise to 104, CM says ‘no need to worry'
Coronavirus cases have continued to spike in several states of India with one more person losing his life to the infectious disease in Belagavi district of Karnataka. The Covid-19 cases have also spiked in Delhi but Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has asserted that there was 'no need to worry'. Kerala is among the worst hit with the southern state witnessing 430 Covid-19 cases. In Karnataka, an elderly man who tested positive for Covid-19 died at a hospital in Belagavi district, a senior official in the health department said. The patient, 70-year-old man, died due to acute cardiorespiratory arrest with encephalopathy and late onset seizures associated with diabetes, hypertension, IHD and positive status. On May 17, an 84-year-old-man with severe comorbidities died at a private hospital in Whitefield, Bengaluru and his Covid-19 test results came positive after his death. In Delhi, at least 19 persons were hospitalised but CM Rekha Gupta said her government was alert and hospitals are ready for any situation. 'Nineteen patients are admitted to hospitals and the remaining are receiving treatment at their homes. But Covid-19 has not reached the point where people need to worry. The government is ready for every situation,' Rekha Gupta said. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak also said that there was no need to panic. Speaking of state preparation, Brajesh Pathak said, 'There is no need to worry, we are fully prepared.' Meanwhile in Jharkhand, two more persons tested positive in the state. 'Two fresh cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Ranchi in the past two days. With this, the number of people who tested positive for the infection has reached three,' Ranchi civil surgeon Prabhat Kumar said.

UP government issues order to keep more than 2800 employees in permanent service who worked in previous COVID pandemic
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 28 (ANI): The Uttar Pradesh government has issued an order to keep more than 2800 employees who worked during the previous COVID time in permanent service. Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak informed that more than 2200 people have been accommodated, and an order was issued to the government hospitals to accommodate them on priority. 'The government has issued an order to keep more than 2800 employees who worked during the time of COVID permanently in service. More than 2200 people have already been accommodated. For the remaining, a government order was issued yesterday to accommodate them on priority in all our hospitals', Brajesh Pathak told ANI. The development takes place after there has been a sudden surge in Coronavirus cases in the country. According to the Chief Executive Officer of Dr. Dangs Lab, Arjun Dang, the rising cases of Covid-19 belonged to the sub-lineage of the Omicron virus. Dang further stated that in states like Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, the variants that were named as 'Variants under Monitoring' were of types LF7 and NV181 and were more transmissible. 'We must understand that the current spreading variants are again a sublineage of the Omicron virus. Additionally, in states like Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, we have certain other sub-variants that have been named Variants Under Monitoring, and these are basically of two types, LF7 and NV181. Currently, the cases that we are seeing are more transmissible. They can infect people easily, but again, from the severity perspective, till now, we have not seen any severe cases,' Dang told ANI. Meanwhile, India reported 1,009 active COVID-19 cases in the country on Monday, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. As per the Health Ministry, India's COVID-19 update showed a total of 1009 active cases, with 752 new cases recently confirmed. According to the government data, Kerala currently tops the chart with the highest number of active cases at 430. Other states with notable case counts include Maharashtra (209), Delhi (104), Gujarat (83), and Karnataka (47). (ANI)

UP govt clears appointment of 676 pending Covid-era health workers
Lucknow, May 27 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the appointment of 676 health workers who served during the Covid-19 pandemic but were left out in the earlier departmental absorption. 'These workers were initially deployed temporarily across districts during the pandemic,' said Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak, adding, 'Orders have been issued to integrate these personnel into various health units within a month.' Earlier, 1,834 such workers were absorbed.

IACC meet puts spotlight on eight years of progress in UP
Lucknow: The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), North India Council, hosted a seminar titled 'Rising UP: 8 Years of Progress' to highlight UP's transformation. Union minister of state Jitin Prasada, deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak and minister of state (independent charge) Dinesh Pratap Singh attended the event. Other awardees included Sushil Mohan Takru (saddlery), Rajkumar Singh (Hindi literature), Mayank Somani (medical innovation), Manjula Goswami (education) and Pranshu Mishra (journalism). Sanjeev Saran, Annu Awasthi, Piyush Singh Chauhan and Sanjay Sinha were also recognised. Speakers praised UP's progress in infrastructure, agriculture and law and order.
