Deputies: 1 hospitalized after semi, SUV crash in Branch County
BRONSON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A driver was hospitalized Wednesday after a crash in Branch County, deputies say. It happened around 7:40 a.m. Wednesday at US-12 and Holmes Road in Bronson Township. A 51-year-old Bronson man was heading west on US-12 in an SUV when he veered left, went over the center line and crashed into an eastbound semi-truck, according to the Branch County Sheriff's Office. Deputies say the driver of the semi-truck, a 55-year-old man from Three Oaks, tried to avoid the crash but could not. The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital, according to the sheriff's office. The semi-truck driver wasn't hurt. US-12 was shut down for hours after the crash. Deputies: Car stolen in Indiana found in Coldwater area
COLDWATER, Mich. (WOOD) — Three people were jailed in Branch County after deputies say they were found with a car that was stolen in Indiana. According to the Branch County Sheriff's Office, a Coldwater Police Department license plate reader flagged the stolen Kia Sunday. Police launched a search for the car and deputies soon found it in a parking lot on Willowbrook Road on the east side of town. They stopped the car in the parking lot without incident. The three people are all facing charges related to possession of meth. One is also charged with possession of stolen property, authorities said. Their names were not released Monday. Deputies: Suspects caught with stolen UTV, skid-steer
BETHEL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people were caught with a stolen piece of construction equipment worth nearly $120,000 after their truck got stuck in the mud near Coldwater, deputies say. It happened Saturday at the Branch Solar construction site on S. Batavia Road south of Lockwood Road in Bethel Township. The Branch County Sheriff's Office said it was called there on a report of a possible break-in in progress. When deputies arrived, they found two people trying to get their truck out of the mud. The truck was hauling a trailer carrying a stolen Polaris Ranger UTV worth about $35,000, deputies said. Deputies said they then found a CAT skid-steer that had also been reported stolen. It was worth about $119,000, but had sustained about $6,500 in damage, they said. Deputies said the two broke through the construction site's fence to get in. When they searched the suspects' house nearby, deputies said, they found more stolen property and meth. One of the suspects was jailed on charges of being in possession of stolen property, and deputies said they are working to add larceny, property damage and drug charges. Drugs, guns, stolen property found north of Coldwater
COLDWATER, Mich. (WOOD) — A search warrant at a home north of Coldwater in December led deputies to a large number of drugs, firearms and stolen property, deputies said. In December 2024, deputies with the Branch County Sheriff's Office searched a home on Bidwell Road near Marshall Road, they found methamphetamine, multiple firearms and stolen property along with evidence of drug distribution. One person was arrested for outstanding warrants, the sheriff's office said. The investigation that followed led deputies to a stolen UTV on the property on Jan. 26. The sheriff's office said it is working to get charges filed against at least three people for drug possession, intent to deliver, firearm offenses and possession of stolen property filed.
