Monochrome Monday - "The Celly"
This week's Monochrome Monday Theme is Goal Celebrations or what hockey players commonly refer to as "The Celly". A celly can be anything from a fist bump, to a hug, to something more extreme and unique such as ones in the video below, followed by the player skating past their respective team's bench for a skate-by fist bump with the rest of the team. These moments are some of the most fun to capture because of the pure emotion and fun that comes along with the moment. Here are a few of my favorite shots that I have captured of goal celebrations from the previous Kraken season. NHL shake-up rumor: Seattle Kraken must cut ties with Philipp Grubauer, Brandon Montour, and Kaapo Kakko before it's too late
Seattle Kraken with the number eight overall pick during the first round of the 2025 Upper Deck NHL Draft (Credit: Getty Images) Grubauer's early promise with the Colorado Avalanche never fully carried over to Seattle. After posting a save percentage in his debut season with the Kraken, he's continued to regress. Last season, he lost the starting job to Joey Daccord, who outperformed him by a wide margin. With limited trade options due to his no-trade clause, the front office is stuck in a bind. But if Seattle wants to compete in a stacked Western Conference, they need a goalie who can steal games, not surrender them. The Seattle Kraken Have NO That Needs to Change Brandon Montour's big contract isn't delivering value for Seattle Brandon Montour was supposed to be the Seattle Kraken's blueline anchor after signing a seven-year deal. Montour's offensive game hit a high in Florida, but he hasn't replicated that with the Kraken. In his first year in Seattle, he struggled to find chemistry on the power play and failed to command the top-pair responsibilities he was signed for. The front office must now ask whether keeping him on a long leash is worth the risk, especially as younger, cheaper options emerge. Kaapo Kakko hasn't made the NHL leap Seattle Kraken hoped for The Seattle Kraken took a low-risk flyer on Kaapo Kakko, acquiring the former No. 2 overall pick in hopes of a breakout. With the NHL growing faster and younger, the Kraken can't afford to wait indefinitely. Re-signing him to a short-term deal is one option, but packaging him in a trade might bring better long-term value. Seattle Kraken's NHL future depends on tough roster decisions To take the next step in the NHL, the Seattle Kraken need to address their weakest links head-on. Philipp Grubauer's declining performance, Brandon Montour's underwhelming return on investment, and Kaapo Kakko's stalled development are all major red flags. A competitive Western Conference won't wait for them to bounce back. The Kraken's front office must act decisively, or risk falling behind. Oscar Fisker Molgaard Sends Montour and Evans Packing; Beniers, Daccord and Eyssimont Defeat Tolvanen In Quarter Finals Of World Championship
Seattle Kraken's Adam Larsson, Oscar Fisker Molgaard, Matty Beniers, Joey Daccord and Michael Eyssimont have advanced to the semi-finals of the 2025 IIHF Men's World Championship as Eeli Tolvanen, Philipp Grubauer, Brandon Montour and Ryker Evans depart. Grubauer and Germany battled Fisker Molgaard and Denmark for the final spot in Group B on the last day of the preliminary rounds. Germany had the lead heading into the third period, but a late goal from the Winnipeg Jets' Nikolaj Ehlers tied the game, and Denmark would go on to secure their place in the knockout rounds with a shootout win. Another late Ehlers goal would eliminate another pair of Kraken players. Montour, Evans and Canada topped Group A, but because Denmark are hosts, Canada had to leave Sweden for their quarterfinals matchup. Ehlers scored a tying goal 2:17 remaining in the game, and Denmark would take the lead by away of Nick Olesen, scoring with 49 seconds remaining. Montour finished the tournament scoring two goals and nine points in eight games, while Evans added two assists in eight games. Fisker Molgaard and Denmark will take on Switzerland in the semi-finals. Beniers, Eyssimont, Daccord and Team USA took quick care of Finland in their quarterfinals matchup, erasing a 2-1 deficit en route to a 5-2 victory. Beniers recorded an assist on the tying goal, and in a losing effort, Tolvanen scored his seventh goal, finishing the tournament with seven goals and nine points in eight games. Larsson and Team Sweden were set for a difficult matchup against Czechia, but sprang out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and never looked back. Leo Carlsson and Lucas Raymond led the way for Sweden, scoring twice before Filip Forsberg put the game out of reach with an empty-net goal. Sweden will take on the Americans in the semi-final, ensuring a Kraken player will compete for a gold medal on Sunday. Kraken Defenseman Leading The Way For Team Canada's Blue Line
Seattle Kraken defenseman Brandon Montour is leading the way for Team Canada's World Championship roster as they near the end of the group stage. Through five games, the 31-year-old has scored two goals and nine points, tied for second among Canadian players. Leading the way for Canada is Nathan MacKinnon with 10 points, followed closely behind by Sidney Crosby and Brandon Montour. Canada has a perfect record through five games, outscoring their opponents 28-2. They have two games remaining in the group stage, against France on Monday and Sweden on Tuesday. Canada's matchup against Sweden will likely be the game which settles who finishes first in Group A. Montour has been a catalyst on the backend, outscoring the next closest defenseman on Team Canada by six points. The Ohsweken, ON native, has shown great chemistry with Canada's top players, particularly Crosby. He's quarterbacked the top unit, and he's a major reason why Canada's power play has been so efficient. Canada has high hopes of winning the World Championship, and Montour will play a big role if they succeed. Stay updated with the most interesting Kraken stories, analysis, breaking news and more!
