Brandon Robinson Thompson surges into Turkish Open lead ahead of final round
England's Brandon Robinson Thompson equalled the Regnum Carya course record to surge into a three-shot lead going into the final round of the Turkish Open. Robinson Thompson's nine-under-par 62 saw him reach 14 under for the week, three clear of Spain's Jorge Campillo, China's Haotong Li and South African Robin Williams. Starting the day five shots off the lead, Robinson Thompson burst out of the blocks with three birdies in his first five holes. Another fine approach to six feet at the ninth saw him turn in 30 and he chipped in for eagle at the 12th, before birdieing three of the last four holes. "I've just got notified of that (the course record) and I'm a bit bummed I didn't break it," said the 32-year-old. "I'm super excited to have a nice round and the scary part was I probably could have had a few more but beggars can't be choosers. "I'm here with my wife, we're staying in a beautiful hotel, the course is amazing. "It's hard not to enjoy yourself this week - the facilities are so good. I'm here with my wife, its such an incredible place, if you're not having a good time this week win, lose or draw, there's something wrong."

Robin Williams geared for take-off at Turkish Airlines Open
There's a tiny part of Robin Williams that would love to celebrate success in a DP World Tour tournament with his dad on his bag, but the big-hitting South African knows golf and knows not to get ahead of himself as he heads into the final round of the Turkish Airlines Open in a share of second place. After an opening nine of one-over-par in the third round on Saturday on the Regnum Carya course in Antalya, Türkiye, he birdied the problematic 10th to get a sublime homeward nine on track. Robin Williams made five birdies on that nine on his way to a four-under-par 67, and – at 11-under-par – sits three shots behind England's Brandon Robinson Thompson, together with Haotong Li of China and Jorge Campillo of Spain. 'My dad mentioned on the flight over here about how Robert MacIntyre won with his father on the bag at the RBC Canadian Open, but I told him that we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves,' said Robin Williams. 'The main thing this week has been for me and my dad to just have fun. My dad doesn't get to caddie for me many times. I could probably count them on one hand since I was 11 years old – so, it's good to have him on the bag and experience this whole moment together. We've made ourselves proud so far, so we're playing with house money at the moment.' That relaxed attitude helped him deal with bogeys on five and seven after he had made birdie on four. 'Even though the front nine was a bit difficult, there were no mental struggles going on,' he said. 'I was just trying to just keep up with Haotong out there; he was playing super well on the front line. But I think I've played the back nine pretty well this week, so I knew there was some chances coming up and I made sure I capitalised on them. 'The back nine has more scoring opportunities than the front. I was putting well on the front nine, just not really making them. I missed a few short ones for par, but I knew once I got into my stride, I could move up the leaderboard.' He pumped his drive on the 10th 326 yards up the fairway, easily taking the water that lurks all down the left out of the equation and then deposited his approach inside four feet for an easy birdie. He picked up three more birdies on 12, 13 and 15 with strong tee-shots paving the way, and then he made a fantastic 14-footer for par on 16 to maintain the momentum he could so easily have lost with a bogey. 'I'd completely duffed my second shot with pitching wedge and left myself in a horrible spot,' he said. 'I tried to leave myself a putt with the chip on to the green, but I gave it too much spin, so it was good to make that great one down the hill.' And then came a closing birdie which took him within three of the lead: Once again, he launched his driver over the water, carrying 343 yards into the left rough and 83 yards left to the pin. He left himself just inside 30 feet for his birdie putt and made it. 'I've birdied the 18th every day. I just hit driver there and give myself a short club in,' he said. 'Hopefully tomorrow, I can use that momentum. It's all you can ask for is to be there on a Sunday, and especially on the back nine on Sunday, to be in contention. I'm going to give it a run.' Robinson Thompson had a superb course record-equalling 62 as he jumped to 14-under and the lead. 'Obviously, I wasn't really thinking about it,' he said, 'but I'm super excited again to have another nice round and get it going. The scary part was I probably could have had a few more, but, you know, beggars can't be choosers.' Behind Robin Williams, Wilco Nienaber just couldn't get anything going, despite feeling bullish about his newly-tweaked driver. It helped him in the first two rounds, but he couldn't capitalise on similar accuracy and distance in his third round as well as he did in the second. He made bogeys on three and 12, and a whole lot of battling pars in between. Eventually, a big drive on 18 set him up for his only birdie of the day, and he'll hope that gives him momentum for the final round as he goes into Sunday on eight-under in a share of 13th. Dylan Frittelli's two-under 69 put him on a share of 39th on four-under, Jayden Schaper's level-par 71 had him on two-under in a share of 53rd, and Dylan Naidoo slumped to a five-over 76 to slip to a share of 63rd on three-over. Robinson-Thompson sets the pace with two-shot lead in Qatar on DP World Tour
Brandon Robinson Thompson will take a two-stroke lead into the weekend at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters after reaching ten under par after the second round at Doha Golf Club. The Englishman, who graduated from the Hotel Planner Tour after finishing 18th on last year's Road to Mallorca Rankings, carded a four under par second round of 68 to reach double figures. The 32 year-old carded two birdies and an eagle in his bogey-free effort and he holds the halfway lead for the first time in his DP World Tour career. Two shots behind are the Chinese pair of Ding Wenyi and Li Haotong who both carded five under par rounds of 67 to move to eight under. They are joined in a share of second place by MK Kim of South Korea. Kim is the youngest winner in HotelPlanner Tour history after claiming the D+D REAL Czech Challenge title in 2018 at the age of 17. In a share of fifth are last year's Hero Indian Open winner Keita Nakajima of Japan and Englishman Dan Brown on seven under. History was made this week as Jean Bekirian became the first Armenian representative to make the cut at a DP World Tour event, carding a two over par 74 to finish the day in a share of 34th place on two under. Brandon Robinson Thompson told the media on completing his round: "A great morning. It was tough, actually. The wind was ripping early. I thought the pins were quite tricky, so it was a lot of discipline. "I hit a lot of shots to 30-40 feet and took my two putts and tried to take advantage of holes I could give myself chances on. Snuck one in on 16, hit driver to three or four feet. "Happy with how I stayed patient and it's good to finish bogey free," he added. "I've been here so many times. I used to come here every year for about five or six years. I've played this course 50 or 60 times. I'm so comfortable out here. "There isn't a shot that I probably haven't seen already and I have a bit of support out here. I've had a lot of friends I've met who have come out and support me. It's like a home game for me and that's where the confidence and comfort comes from." The cut fell at one under par 143 with 66 players progressing to the weekend. The UAE's Joshua Grenville-Wood made the cut on one under par in tied 52nd with rounds of 70 and 73 to be on the cut mark. Leading Round 2 Scores B. Robinson-Thompson (Eng) 66. 68. 134. M. Robinson Thompson leads on day one
Brandon Robinson Thompson hailed yesterday's 61 as one of his best-ever rounds after smashing the course record and raising hopes of a 59 on a memorable first day of the 2025 Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship. Early starter Robinson Thompson flew out of the blocks, making the most of benign morning conditions to fire a front-nine 29 that contained two eagles and three birdies. And when he reeled off four successive birdies from the 12th to get to 11 under par, the prospect of Robinson Thomp-son entering the record books as only the second player to shoot a sub-60 round in DP World Tour history was on eve-ryone's lips. Although his birdie run was broken at the 16th as his superb birdie try from 30 feet somehow stayed above ground, the 32-year-old birdied the 17th from long range to move to 12 under and within touching distance of a 59. But, needing a birdie on the par-four last to achieve the feat, the HotelPlanner Tour graduate finished with his only bogey of the day after going long with his approach from a fairway bunker. With the wind getting stronger in the afternoon, Robinson Thompson's 11-under-par total saw him lead by three shots at the end of round one, with fellow morning starter and countryman Callum Tarren his closest challenger on eight under. Spain's Pablo Larrazábal, France's Martin Couvra, Scot Richie Ramsay and Finn Tapio Pulkkanen were in a tie for third another two shots further back. Rookie Robinson Thompson beat the previous course record of 64 posted by France's Tom Vaillant last year by three shots, and he was taking plenty of positives from the day despite the disappointment of missing out on a 59. He said: 'I think it's my lowest round as a professional, let alone on the DP World Tour. 'It has to be up there with a Sunday to close out a HotelPlanner Tour event last year. I know it's the first round but 61, that has to be first or second, surely.' Robinson Thompson's round clicked into gear with an eagle at the par-five third, before he backed it up immediately with a birdie on the 443-yard fourth. Further gains followed at the sixth and eighth, before he closed out his front nine by rolling in an eagle putt from 28 feet. A run of four birdies in a row from the 12th through to the 15th followed to put everyone on 59 watch, and he lipped out for five in a row from distance at the parthree 16th. His chance at history was back on though when his putter delivered again at the 17th, before his dropped shot at the last. Asked when he first became aware of the possibility of a 59, Robinson Thompson said: 'After about nine holes! 'And then I hit it to about four feet on ten, and I was like, 'oh'… Unfortunately I missed that one. 'It was just an accumulation of a lot of good decision making and execution. 'I didn't really picture it this morning when it was raining and there were forecasts of super-strong winds. Very happy to get off to the start I did. Little bit of a sour taste in my mouth, but I holed my fair share.' Of the Bahraini players, Khalifa Alkaabi coped best with the tough conditions, shooting 3-over 75.
