Promising son of Starcraft ready to hit Jackpot at Goulburn

A lightly raced and promising home four-year-old will be set for a bigger sprint target if he claims a second win at Monday's Goulburn meeting. Jackpot Star, a progressive son of all-conditions sire Starcraft, is part of a big team on show for the local Matthew Dale stable. The gelding lines up in a very winnable Benchmark 58 Handicap over 1100m for just his fourth start since an all-the-way win on debut at Wagga in January, and opened around $2.60 across early betting. Jackpot Star disappointed into a well beaten third placing here next start before being spelled. But he returned in strong fashion, missing narrowly in a Class 1 at Albury behind the well-performed galloper Magic Leprechaun. Given 24 days since that run, and plenty of work on the track, Jackpot Star is primed to take the next step on a likely soft surface, despite drawing the outside barrier. Prior to that in a Maiden Plate over 1200m, Dale saddles up another progressive four-year-old treading a similar pathway. Brannum, a gelded son of Everest winner Yes Yes Yes, is also second-up ahead of his fourth start and having not missed a place so far. He was placed twice at home and Nowra before spelling, then resumed with a narrow and fast-finishing second in a Maiden over 1310m at Moruya. Brannum opened around $2.40 favourite for Monday's race ahead of rival home tracker Manwari ($4.00) who also looks well-placed third-up.

Boston Celtics jersey history No. 18 - Bob Brannum (1951-55)

Boston Celtics jersey history No. 18 - Bob Brannum (1951-55) The Boston Celtics have had players suiting up in a total of 68 different jersey numbers (and have three others not part of any numerical series) since their founding at the dawn of the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- the league that would become today's NBA), worn by well over 500 players in the course of Celtics history. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Celtics Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. With 25 of those jerseys now retired to honor some of the greatest Celtics to wear those jerseys, there is a lot of history to cover. And for today's article, we will continue with the second of seven people to wear the No. 18 jersey, Boston forward alum Bob Brannum. After ending his college career at Michigan State, Brannum would sign with the (defunct) Sheboygan Red Skins in 1949. The Winfield, Kansas native spent the next season playing in another domestic league, then joined Boston for the 1951-52 season after his rights were sold to the team. His stay with the team would span his last four campaigns in the league, ending in 1955. During his time suiting up for the Celtics, Brannum wore only jersey No. 18 and put up 6.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.
