Boxing great thinks Katie Taylor is one of the greatest female athletes ever
Carl Froch believes Katie Taylor is one of the greatest female athletes of all time. Taylor returned to the ring earlier this month and turned in one of the best performances of her career as she dominated Amanda Serrano and picked up a unanimous decision victory to end the trilogy 3-0 in Katie's favour. That win further cemented Taylor's legacy in the sport, but former World champion Froch believes Taylor now deserves to be in the conversation for greatest female athlete ever, and not just the G.O.A.T. of women's boxing. Speaking to Froch said: "Katie Taylor for me is probably one of the most outstanding female athletes, especially in boxing of all time. I mean, you've got a couple of other close names, but with Katie Taylor, she's just phenomenal." Taylor has now been fighting for over two decades having begun life as an amateur. She went on to become one of the greatest amateur boxers ever, with her crowning moment coming at the 2012 Olympics when she won gold. Since turning professional after the 2016 Rio Olympics, Taylor has revolutionised women's boxing and is a key reason why female fights garner just as much attention and respect as their male counterparts. (Image: (Photo by Dave Benett/WireImage)) Now 39-years-old, Taylor has achieved virtually everything in the sport, and Froch for one believes now is the perfect time to step away from the sport: I think now it's probably time to hang up the gloves, but you never know if there's big money waiting for another fight. You need to enjoy life and settle down and give your body a rest at some stage. And I think if you're not going to do that before your 40th birthday, when are you going to do it?' While rumours ran rampant suggesting that Taylor would retire after her third Serrano bout, no announcement has been forthcoming from the Bray Bomber. After the fight, Taylor did suggest that she had a decision to make on her fighting future: "I'm just going to enjoy this victory right now and sit back, reflect, and then I'll make a decision about that soon," she said before suggesting that a fight-night at Croke Park would motivate her to carry on. That seems unlikely, but a move up in weight in a bid to become a three-weight undisputed champion could tempt Taylor into wrapping her hands one more time. "I'm willing to come down to 140 for Katie Taylor or she can take her shot at another division and fight me for my 147lb title," wrote Undisputed 147 lbs champion Mikaela Mayer on X last week. "Either way, I always hoped we would cross paths and this may be our last chance if Katie is looking to retire soon. Still think she's got a lot left tho!"

Katie Taylor offered proposal that could lead to dream fight
Mikaela Mayer has put her name forward to fight Katie Taylor - and offered the Irish great the opportunity to become a three-weight world champion. Taylor is currently considering her future plans after producing one of the best performances of her career to beat Amanda Serrano for a third time last week. The undisputed super-lightweight world champion won via majority decision at Madison Square Garden and, having turned 39 earlier this month, is considering whether she will fight on or hang up her gloves. "I'm willing to come down to 140 for Katie Taylor or she can take her shot at another division and fight me for my 147lb title," wrote Mayer on X. "Either way, I always hoped we would cross paths and this may be our last chance if Katie is looking to retire soon. Still think she's got a lot left tho!" Mayer, who was in attendance for Taylor's most recent win over Serrano, currently holds the WBO welterweight world title, with Wales' Lauren Price holding the WBA, WBC, IBF and Ring Magazine belts at 147lbs. The highest Taylor has weighed in at was 139½ lbs for her two fights with Chantelle Cameron in 2023, as well as her 2019 bout against Christina Linardatou. Mikaela Mayer (Image:) Her last two bouts against Serrano were fought at catchweights of 138 and 136lbs, while their first fight in 2022 took place at lightweight. The Bray Bomber suggested after last week's victory that a Croke Park bout would definitely be enough to keep her in training, but she has previously made no secret of her desire to fight in Las Vegas, where Mayer (21-2) is based and where six of her last 13 bouts have taken place. Taylor was in Sin City for Mayer's last fight against Sandy Ryan, a sparring partner of the 2012 Olympic champion, in March of this year. The Sphere in Vegas was considered as a venue for her trilogy bout with Serrano, before organisers decided on MSG in New York. And while Croke Park remains top of Taylor's wish list to fight in, Vegas might just be enough to tempt her to get back in the ring. "To headline a huge show in Vegas would be absolutely special. Vegas is nearly like the Mecca of boxing," Taylor said last year. "This is where all the big fights happen. I have done Madison Square Garden. I've headlined the two shows back in Ireland but to headline somewhere here in Vegas would be very, very special as well."

Katie Taylor still dreaming of Croke Park fight after defeating Serrano for a third time
KATIE TAYLOR hinted that she has not given up hope of fighting at Croke Park after her defeat of Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden on Friday. The Bray Bomber came out on top in her trilogy fight against the Puerto Rican on a majority decision, putting to bed any doubts over her dominance in the rivalry. Almost 20,000 boxing fans witnessed a more tactical affair than the previous two fights between the pair but Taylor won convincingly to remain the undisputed super lightweight champion. Quizzed in the ring after the fight on the possibility of retirement, the 39-year-old joked: "I don't know but I just don't want to fight Amanda Serrano again, she punches too hard!" However, in her post-fight press conference, Taylor hinted that she would like to fulfil her dream of fighting in front of a home crowd at Dublin's Croke Park. Asked if her loyal and vocal travelling support would see her fight again in Dublin before she hangs up her gloves, Taylor replied, smiling: "Maybe in Croke Park? That would be unbelievable." She added: "I said it in the ring earlier on, these people are spending their hard-earned money to come over and support me, it just means the world. "Honestly, I can't believe that this is my life, I'm headlining a show in Madison Square Garden, an all-female card. "Looking back on the whole journey, what an amazing life. "These are the nights I dreamed of as a kid and to be sitting here again as a winner, I'm just so happy, so grateful." However, Taylor added that she feels she has nothing left to prove in the sport and will instead savour her latest victory before making a decision on her career in the future. Cameron criticism Taylor was full of praise for her long-time foe Serrano, saying they 'created history together three times'. "My name will always be embedded with hers forever, I'm very, very happy about that," she said. "What we've been able to create over these last few years has been unbelievable, it's amazing to have a rival like that in the sport." If Taylor is to fight at Croke Park, it's unlikely to be against English boxer Chantelle Cameron. The 34-year-old was on Friday's undercard, retaining her WBC interim world super-lightweight title with a points victory over Canadian Jessica Camara. Cameron — the only fighter to defeat Taylor following a majority decision in Dublin two years ago — may feel she has done enough to merit her own trilogy fight against the Bray Bomber. However, while Taylor was fulsome in her praise for Serrano, she was dismissive in her assessment of the Northampton fighter. "I think Chantelle has to see if she can sell out a 1,000-seater arena first," said Taylor. "I don't think she can sell out any stadium at all. "I think I've made her more money than she really deserves, to be quite honest." Taylor has only ever had two professional fights in Ireland, both of which were against Cameron in 2023 at the 3Arena in Dublin. However, with one victory apiece, could the Irish fighter be tempted into a trilogy showdown on home turf against the former Matchroom fighter?
