USC baseball blown out by Oregon State, setting up winner-take-all game Monday
After winning its first two NCAA Tournament games, USC baseball entered Sunday on the cusp of its first super regional appearance in nearly two decades. With a victory over old Pac-12 foe Oregon State Sunday night, the Trojans would win the Corvallis Regional and head to the tournament's second weekend for the first time since 2006. Instead, however, USC suffered a humiliating blowout loss. The Beavers dominated the Trojans 14-1, setting up a winner-take-all game to decide the regional on Monday. Advertisement Things went awry from the start for the Trojans. After Brayden Dowd led off the first inning with a single, Ethan Hedges hit a double. Dowd was sent home by the third base coach despite there being no outs in the inning. Dowd was thrown out at the plate, and the Trojans did not score in the frame. The very next inning, Oregon State was helped significantly by poor defense from USC. Everything the Trojans did so well in their tournament opener against TCU on Friday, they essentially threw out the window. They did the complete opposite in this game and allowed the contest to spiral out of control. Oregon State built a 6-1 lead with some line-drive singles, but also a number of infield hits USC fielders did not handle as well as they could have. The game's other turning point came in the fifth inning. Trailing 6-1, USC loaded the bases with no one out, a golden opportunity to get back in the game. Instead, however, the next three Trojans batters all struck out, and they did not get a single run across. The very next inning, Oregon State hit a three-run home run to go up 9-1, and the rout was on. The two teams will now play a decisive winner-take-all game on Monday. The winner will move on to the super regionals to face Florida State, while the loser will go home. First pitch from Corvallis is set for 3 p.m. Pacific time on ESPNU and ESPN+. USC baseball gets crucial sweep of Ohio State
USC baseball gets crucial sweep of Ohio State USC needed to sweep Ohio State, and it did. The Trojans have to build on that. This weekend, USC baseball was back in action at Great Park in Irvine, as the Trojans welcomed Ohio State to Southern California for a three-game series. And a very successful series it was for USC, as the Trojans took all three games from the Buckeyes to pick up their first ever Big Ten sweep. USC's offense came alive in the series, putting up a combined 27 runs across the three games. After winning 5-3 on Friday night and 12-9 on Saturday, the Trojans earned a thrilling 10-9 victory on Sunday to complete the sweep. USC blew an early 8-4 lead and entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 9-8, but the Trojans tied the game on a Brayden Dowd home run before walking it off on a Dean Carpentier RBI single. After getting swept by Oregon in their first three Big Ten games, USC has now won four consecutive Big Ten series. The Trojans currently sit at 20-11 overall on the season and 9-6 in conference play. USC is back in action Tuesday night when the Trojans visit LMU. They will then travel to State College, Pennsylvania, this weekend for a three-game series against Penn State.

USC baseball defeats San Diego State, tries to build momentum
USC baseball defeats San Diego State, tries to build momentum USC has little margin for error, so the win over the Aztecs helps After mounting a dramatic comeback on Saturday to take the series from Indiana, USC baseball returned to Great Park in Irvine Tuesday night to take on San Diego State. The Trojans were once again winners, earning a 9-6 victory over the Aztecs. USC was impressively able to put nine runs on the board despite not hitting a single home run. Center fielder Brayden Dowd and right fielder Jack Basseer both had three-hit, multi-RBI games for the Trojans. On the mound, USC went with a bullpen game after exhausting its starters over the weekend. The Trojans' pitching was not great—allowing six runs on 13 hits—but the offense did enough to make up for it and outscored SDSU. USC is now 17-11 overall on the season and 6-6 in Big Ten play. The Trojans are back in action at Great Park this weekend when they welcome Ohio State to town. The two teams will open the three-game series on Friday night, before playing afternoon games on Saturday and Sunday. USC does not have a large margin for error in pursuing an NCAA Tournament berth, so this win is very important. The Trojans have to build momentum in their chase of the postseason berth they badly need.
