Lewis Hamilton causes stir as he unfollows Ferrari on Instagram ahead of first home race

Image: Reuters Lewis Hamilton has unfollowed everyone including his new team Ferrari and even his pet dog Roscoe just days before the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The move has surprised many fans as the seven-time world champion is set to race at the Imola circuit for the first time in Ferrari colours. This isn't the first time Hamilton has done something like this. After his controversial 2021 Formula 1 title loss to Max Verstappen in Abu Dhabi, he disappeared from Instagram for months before returning with a fresh post. However, this time the reason behind his digital move isn't fully clear. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Tough start to Ferrari move Hamilton has had a difficult start to his first season with Ferrari. Apart from a sprint race win in Shanghai, he has struggled with the car and hasn't finished higher than fifth in a main race, which he achieved in Bahrain. In the Miami Grand Prix, he took the eighth position after a tough battle with teammate Charles Leclerc. Hamilton is currently sitting in seventh place in the championship standings and is 12 points behind Leclerc, who is in fifth spot. Interestingly, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who replaced Hamilton in Mercedes, is one place ahead of the British driver in the 2025 F1 drivers' standings. Hamilton's struggles with social media During the 2023 Brazilian Grand Prix, Hamilton had opened up about his struggles with social media. He revealed that he was dealing with anxiety related to these platforms and had been undergoing therapy. He also admitted that he doesn't enjoy being active on social media much. 'You know, you don't see me on social media a huge amount because there are anxieties that I have. I have never spoken about it, but I've had to do a lot of work in the back. Whether it's working through therapy, whether it's taking on, like, finding different outlets, whether it's reading more, whether it's doing meditation, whether it's trying to pull in more tools to my arsenal so that I can deal with the challenges that I'm facing.' Hamilton's last Grand Prix win was in Belgium last year after Mercedes teammate George Russell was disqualified. Before that, he had ended a long winless streak at his home race in Silverstone.

Jack Doohan: Alpine F1 driver target of threats with security tightened before Franco Colapinto handover
The fallout from Australian F1 star Jack Doohan's disastrous debut season has taken a dark turn as revelations surface that Team Alpine have had to implement private security for the youngster after continual threats. As Alpine moved to elevate Franco Colapinto to replace Doohan after the Aussie suffered a puncture on lap one and another DNF in the Miami Grand Prix, serious concerns about personal security and genuine threat levels have been raised F1 photographer Kym Illman has spoken to GP Fans and revealed Doohan's family and close friends were concerned for his safety. Alpine confirmed that Doohan will be replaced by Franco Colapinto for the next five races at least by Colapinto, whose supporter base allegeedly took things into their own hands and made sovial media threats the beseiged driver. Following Doohan's axing, Illman said via Instagram that the threats toward the Doohan had been received from a small minority of Colapinto's fanbase, and were serious enough for Alpine to employ extra security. 'He was receiving all sorts of threats online so much so that he had around-the-clock security in Miami and was planning on keeping that security for the Brazilian Grand Prix,' Illman said.. 'It was plain to see by those close to the Aussie that those threats weighed heavily on him. 'People had discovered his personal email address and were sending email threats which resulted in Jack, his girlfriend and even his father holding real concerns for their safety in Miami and on top of that, Jack's sleep was affected. 'I'm certain Franco wouldn't be endorsing any of that behaviour from what is a minority of his fanbase.' Doohan's departure also follows the news that Alpine team principal Oliver Oakes has resigned from the team with immediate effect, and executive Flavio Briatore will step up to cover his duties. On Doohan's demotion to reserve driver, Alpine said: 'As part of an on-going assessment of its driver line-up, the team has made the decision to rotate one of its race seats for the next five rounds of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship. 'BWT Alpine Formula One Team therefore announces that Franco Colapinto will be paired with Pierre Gasly from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, ahead of a new evaluation before the British Grand Prix in July. 'Jack Doohan remains an integral part of the team and will be the first-choice Reserve Driver for this period of time.'

Eddie Jordan, former F1 team owner and pundit, dies at 76
Former Formula 1 team owner and television pundit Eddie Jordan has died at the age of 76. The Irishman, known for his charismatic personality and contributions to motorsport, passed away in the early hours of 20 March 2025 in Cape Town after battling aggressive prostate cancer. A statement from his family confirmed his passing, describing him as an entrepreneur who "brought an abundance of charisma, energy, and Irish charm everywhere he went." Jordan was actively involved in sports until his final days, recently engaging in discussions about his role as patron of London Irish Rugby Football Club. Jordan Grand Prix, the team he founded in 1991, quickly became known for its bold approach and striking liveries. Despite being an independent outfit, it secured four Formula 1 victories and briefly contended for the drivers' championship in 1999. His team provided career opportunities to several future champions, including Michael Schumacher and Damon Hill. Jordan sold his team in 2005, paving the way for its evolution into Force India, Racing Point, and its current incarnation as Aston Martin. He later transitioned into broadcasting, working as a pundit for BBC Sport and Channel 4, where his outspoken views and ability to break major news stories made him a fan favourite. Among his notable moments in F1, Jordan played a key role in giving Schumacher his debut at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix. The team's first win came in 1998 at Spa with Hill, while its final victory was achieved by Giancarlo Fisichella at the chaotic 2003 Brazilian Grand Prix. In his final major contribution to the sport, Jordan helped broker the deal for legendary designer Adrian Newey to join Aston Martin this year. Porsche's Taycan Turbo GT Beats the 911 Turbo S Around This Grand Prix Track
Porsche's fastest and most extreme electric car, the Taycan Turbo GT, was already named Road & Track's Performance EV of the Year in its price segment for 2025 — and now, it has another prize to its name. The Taycan Turbo GT has set the official fastest lap for an EV at Interlagos, home of the Brazilian Grand Prix. Not only that, the electric four-door beat Porsche's most powerful 911 variant, the 911 Turbo S. Felipe Nasr, a Brazilian former F1 driver and a factory driver with Porsche Penske Motorsport's 963 prototype program, lapped the grand prix circuit in 1:42.1. Not only is that nearly eight seconds quicker than the previous EV record set by a Taycan Turbo S at 1:49.8, the lap is quicker than the time of 1:43.1 set by a 911 Turbo S. The GT-branded Taycan is also faster than official Porsche laps in a last-generation Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid (1:48.3) and a Cayenne Turbo GT (1:48.5) but still more than five seconds behind the ridiculously quick 991-generation 911 GT2 RS equipped with a Manthey kit (1:37) Just as with Porsche's previously-announced EV lap records at Laguna Seca and the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the Taycan Turbo GT's lap at Interlagos puts it in the realm of GT4 race cars. Not only is that impressive for an EV, it's particularly eye-opening for a four-door sedan of any power source. Still, a similarly powerful electric Porsche not carrying around the extra weight of a sedan could theoretically run laps even faster, and the quickest versions of Porsche's upcoming electric 718 may well be able to one-up all of the records currently being set by the Taycan Turbo GT. If the GT4 E-Performance concept that Porsche showed off in 2022 is any indication, the quickest variants of that car could be the fastest road-going EVs to ever lap a race track.
