Breanna Nix's ‘American Idol' Consolation Prize: A Billboard No. 1

Breanna Nix's 'Higher' debuts at No. 1 on the Christian Digital Song Sales chart after her American ... More Idol season 23 third-place finish. AMERICAN IDOL - "818 (Disney Night #2)" "Disney Night" continues with heroes, villains and a special appearance by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The Top 5 travel to Disneyland Resort and perform twice as America votes live for the three heading to the finale. MONDAY, MAY 12 (8:00-10:01 p.m. EDT) on ABC. (Disney/Christopher Willard) BREANNA NIX (Photo by Christopher Willard/Disney via Getty Images) The latest season of American Idol, which concluded on May 18, was one of the most exciting in recent memory. Several of the top contestants ended up releasing tracks that immediately became bestselling hits following the show's conclusion. Some years, only the winner manages to make any impact on the Billboard charts — and there have been times when even that doesn't happen. Season 23 was so chock-full of talent that even the singer who came in third place has managed to reach No. 1 on a chart in the United States. Breanna Nix finished in third this season, ending up behind runner-up John Foster and ultimate winner Jamal Roberts. While she didn't take the crown, Nix does reach a number of Billboard rankings with her solo single "Higher," which has become a strong seller and demonstrates that — even without a win — there may be a market for her voice following the conclusion of the show. "Higher" debuts at No. 1 on the Christian Digital Song Sales chart this week. It marks Nix's first leader on a Billboard tally. The tune replaces "Hard Fought Hallelujah" by Brandon Lake, which has turned out to be not just a winner on the Christian charts, but also a crossover success — one that has placed on Billboard's rock rankings and risen high on the Hot 100 as well. Nix's tune sold well enough to reach not just the Christian Digital Song Sales chart, but also the all-genre Digital Song Sales ranking. On that roster, it opens at No. 4, thanks to a little under 4,700 pure purchases (per Luminate). Sales powered "Higher" onto one of Billboard's consumption-based rankings as well. The tune lands at No. 40 on the Hot Christian Songs ranking, which lists the most popular tracks in that style by blending pure purchases, streaming activity, and radio airplay. Since she's a brand new artist with minimal promotional might, it seems that sales are largely to thank for "Higher" becoming a top 40 hit on the Christian-only tally.

‘American Idol' Favorite Beats The Winner When It Comes To Post-Show Sales

Season 23 of American Idol ended on Sunday, May 18, with a bang. A new champion has been crowned, and hopefully, he's able to enjoy a long-lasting and successful career in the music world with his debut tune. As the newly named winner begins his journey, those who ended up just behind him are also performing well as Americans rush to buy the standout tracks from the three highest-ranking competitors this season. Jamal Roberts was named the winner of season 23 of the long-running musical reality series. He earned rave reviews throughout the season and finally came out on top after auditioning three times for the program. He performed his winners single, "Heal," which has quickly become a bestseller in the United States. At the moment, "Heal" sits at No. 6 on the iTunes Top Songs chart in America. In the coming hours, as more people wake up and learn of his triumph—and hear the tune—it may continue to grow in popularity. In the end, it was a toss-up between Roberts and John Foster, both of whom leaned into country and Americana sounds to appeal to a wider audience. While Foster ended up as the runner-up this time around, he's also scored a hit on iTunes. "Tell That Angel I Love Her," which was spotlighted during the final episode, is close to breaking into the top 10 on the iTunes Top Songs tally. As of the time of writing, it sits at No. 12, though it may rise higher in the coming hours or even days. Breanna Nix finished the season in third place, but at the moment, she's the winner on iTunes. Nix was eliminated in the final episode, but her single "Higher" is the top-performing track following the finale. She released the tune only a day ago – intelligently to coincide with the finale – and it currently leads the iTunes Top Songs chart. 'Higher' replaces "Ordinary" by Alex Warren at No. 1, beating both of the men who eliminated her from the competition.

Breanna Nix: Husband Austin Nix Urged Her to Audition for 'American Idol'

Breanna Nix, one of the three contestants who competed in the American Idol 2025 finale on May 18, has been open about her husband's encouragement. In an interview with Billboard, Nix explained how her husband, Austin Nix, wanted her to audition for the show. If it wasn't for her husband, Nix told Billboard, she might not have auditioned at all. 'My husband forced me. I told him, 'I don't have any song. I didn't practice anything. I'm not doing it.' And he said, 'Yes, you are.' No regrets," she said in the interview. "This has changed my life. If I were to go home right now, I would be so incredibly blessed that I went on American Idol. It's truly been impactful for me in so many different areas." Nix also revealed that she didn't tell anyone at first that she was submitting a video. 'My husband is a musical man. That's what I call him. He can play any instrument that he picks up even if he's never touched it," Nix told Billboard. "He just has an ear for music, and he can sing a little bit. God put us together. We travel and fill in for churches that don't have worship teams or music for that service. Now I'm on American Idol," she added. "What's going on? I started out in my room playing two chords on the piano that were not the right ones for the song, and now I'm on American Idol." Breanna Nix and her husband are open about their love for each other on Instagram. Nix is a stay-at-home mom from Texas, and the mom of son Emerson, whom she shares with Austin, she told the judges. In 2021, Austin Nix shared a photo of them on his Instagram page and wrote, "Happy 2 Year Anniversary Baby! So much has happened since we first met! Marrying you was one of the best decisions I ever made! I am so happy for the little family we now have together!! Emerson has your personality! Haha! Words can't express how happy I am to be a parent with you!!! I will Love You till we die.❤️ You're My Forever, and I'm your Always!! I Love You!!!" She responded by writing that she loved him in his comment thread.

Who Won American Idol 2025? Live Results & Final Videos

The American Idol 2025 finale started on May 18, 2025, with three competitors remaining: Jamal Roberts, Breanna Nix, and John Foster. Who won? Be forewarned that this article will contain the main spoiler, so stop reading if you don't want to know who won. Host Ryan Seacrest said it was the "biggest finale vote in American Idol history" with over 26 million votes cast, more than "double last year's finale." Then, he cut to the chase. Here is the moment that Seacrest announced the winner of American Idol's latest season. "The winner of American Idol is…. JAMAL ROBERTS," Seacrest announced, prompting Roberts to grow emotional as he was declared the 2025 winner. "AMERICA GOT IT RIGHT!!! A HUGE CONGRATS TO JAMAL!" a fan wrote on the American Idol YouTube page. Roberts put his head back for a long moment. "Congratulations, Jamal," Seacrest said. Before the winner was announced, Foster told Roberts, "It's such an honor to be here with you," a tribute that Roberts returned. Roberts' fans were ecstatic. Earlier in the night, Roberts performed a duet with Jelly Roll, singing Liar and Unpretty. As of 11 p.m. ET, the competition was down to the two remaining contestants after three powerhouse performances (videos later in this article). Who was eliminated first? A nationwide audience spoke, according to Ryan Seacrest, announcing the first cut on May 18. The first contestant to make it into the final two was announced as the Louisiana country singer, John Foster. He appeared to grow emotional, putting his hands to his face. Then, Seacrest announced that Jamal Roberts was also moving into the final two contestants, which meant that Nix was the first of the three finalists to be cut. That upset some fans on social media, who were rooting for the stay-at-home mom from Texas. She seemed to recover, offering verbal support to Roberts before later taking the stage for a duet with Brandon Lake. Fans enjoyed Nix's duet. "Brandon Lake and Breanna Nix- best song of the night #americanidol," wrote one fan. For her grand finale performance, Nix performed In Jesus Name. American Idol shared video of her performance on YouTube. Judge Lionel Richie said, "This has turned into a slugfest -- every one of you in your own lane has a career forever. Stay on your path." Roberts sang First Time during the finale, according to the video shared by American Idol. Judge Carrie Underwood said, "I feel like tonight, you look so comfortable and at ease." As for Foster, he sang Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue. Host Carrie Underwood said of Foster's song, "Great song choice. Everybody at home was singing." Along the way, fans were treated to a host of special musical performances. One, by Jessica Simpson, was panned by some fans, though.
