BCA: Man shot dead by police after reporting he'd killed his mother originally appeared on Bring Me The News.
The man shot dead by police in rural Albert Lea on Tuesday had texted a friend to say he'd killed his mother, whose body was later found inside the home.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) says Nathaniel Bailey, 44, died after being shot by five officers and deputies when he exited the home on the 21000 block of 880th Avenue armed with a handgun.
He had earlier texted a woman saying he had just killed his mother. After shooting Bailey, police found his mother, 66-year-old Brenda Krause, dead in the home.
Bailey had fled the home after sending the text, but after being found by police near Austin in Mower County, he fled and led police back to the home where his mother's body was found.
"When he arrived at the residence, Bailey exited the vehicle armed with a handgun. Officers discharged their weapons, striking him. Medical aid was rendered at the scene, but Bailey was pronounced deceased," the Minnesota BCA said.
The officers involved have been identified as:
Mower County Sgt. Katlynne Fisher has eight years of law enforcement experience.
Steele County Deputy Sean Robbins has 11 years of law enforcement experience.
Freeborn County Deputy Darik Weigel has eight years of law enforcement experience.
Albert Lea Police Detective Sy Vanthavong has 24 years of law enforcement experience.
Faribault County Sheriff's Office Deputy, whose name is being withheld as they are undercover.
A handgun was recovered from the scene. The shooting was captured on police bodycams.
The BCA is investigating, with all law enforcement officers involved placed on standard administrative leave.
