Former pub in south Essex High Street set to re-open as plans given go-ahead
A former Irish-themed pub in Essex that's been closed for years is set to re-open as a new restaurant.
Plans have been given the green light to change the use of the old O'Neill's pub in Brentwood High Street, which closed in December 2022.
The plans do not include any external alterations to the building, but they do say the restaurant would be across two floors.
Planning documents also show a range of seating for well over 100 guests, including tables and booths, and at least two bars.

The council raised no concerns about the impact on the conservation area and the former pub's neighbours. The council officer's report states: 'In relation to the change of use, at present the unit is vacant and it is considered that the proposed use would make a positive contribution to the viability and vitality of the area.
'The application site is over three floors, and the existing kitchen is located on both the ground and first floor levels. The environmental health officer has raised no concern about the proposed use of the building (…) as this would not result in harm in terms of noise, odour or general disturbance to the surrounding neighbouring buildings.
'The proposal would not have a harmful impact on the living conditions of the neighbouring occupiers by way of overlooking, overbearing effect or lack of privacy and would comply with the Brentwood Local Plan.'
