‘An underdog that bites back, just like me': American rapper Snoop Dogg on buying stake in Swansea City

Swansea City has never got back to the English Premier League League since being relegated in 2018 but the Welsh club seems to be benefitting from looking at ways to resurrect itself and return to the top flight. Three months after Croatia great Luka Modric, who recently moved to AC Milan, picked up a stake in the 113-year-old club, US rapper Snoop Dogg had become a co-owner and investor. The 53-year-old, shared how he sees the club as 'An underdog that bites back, just like me'. 'My love of football is well known, but it feels special to me that I make my move into club ownership with Swansea City,' the music icon said in the announcement. 'The story of the club and the area really struck a chord with me. This is a proud, working class city and club. An underdog that bites back, just like me. I'm proud to be part of Swansea City. I am going to do all I can to help the club,' Dogg told the club's website. Though based in Swansea, Wales, the club plays within the English football pyramid. Founded in 1912, Swansea were promoted to the Premier League in 2011 and won the League Cup in 2013. They were relegated to the second division English Championships after the 2018 season. The club had seen a takeover led by American businessmen Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen last November. Since then they replaced manager Luke Williams with Alan Sheehan becoming the team manager. Last year, the team finished 14th in Championship standings followed by the year's 11th place finish in the standings. With Modric becoming one of the investors, Dogg now becomes the second big name to invest in the club. Swansea City is delighted to announce global rap superstar and multi-platinum selling artist @SnoopDogg has become the club's latest high-profile co-owner and investor. 👉 — Swansea City AFC (@SwansOfficial) July 17, 2025 The 53-year-old rapper, who was one of the torch bearers of the Olympic flame in Paris Olympics, has been known to support teams like NHL side Toronto Maple Leafs apart from having seen wearing shirts of clubs like Chelsea, Barcelona, AC Milan, Ajax, Arsenal, Burnley, Norwich City, Liverpool and Manchester United in public life. Dogg talked about a kit which he expects to 'fit'. For many years, I have been associated with soccer. I have worn a lot of kits in my life, but now I am at the part of my life where I am trying to find a kit that fits.' Digg shared on the club's website. In 2016, American businessmen Jason Levin and Steve Kaplan had bought a 68 percent stake in the club, which was a part of the English Premier League at that time and the deal saw the club being valued near 100 million pounds. Later Levin and Kaplan increased their stake in the club in 2018 before selling their stake to Cravatt and Cohen. The club's owners Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen hailed Dogg's coming on board. 'To borrow a phrase from Snoop's back catalogue, this announcement is the next episode for Swansea City as we seek to create new opportunities to boost the club's reach and profile. Snoop's colossal global fanbase and audience will certainly help us do that, and he has made clear to us throughout this process just how excited he is at the prospect of joining the club. Snoop has openly shared his love of football and his desire to be involved in the game and we expect his involvement to support us putting as competitive a team as possible out on the field,' the owners said in a statement.

Snoop Dogg becomes co-owner of Swansea City soccer team, calls it an "underdog that bites back, just like me."

London — Snoop Dogg has become co-owner of the Welsh football team Swansea City, in an unlikely alliance between the world of rap and professional soccer, the team has announced. The 53-year-old American rap icon joins former Real Madrid stalwart and Croatia World Cup finalist Luka Modric in the club's ownership structure. Snoop made a surprise appearance on the club's social media channels last week modelling their new home jersey for the 2025-26 season, and the club announced Thursday that he had become an investor. His involvement comes after American businessmen Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen took over the club last November. Swansea will hope that Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, can use his 100 million-plus social media followers to boost the club's profile as it seeks to return to the U.K. Premier League for the first time since being relegated in 2018 to the second-tier EFL Championship league. Swansea's owners have said they want to generate greater revenue, which would allow them to invest more in new players under the profit and sustainability rules in British football. The 53-year-old rapper said on the club's website: "My love of football is well known, but it feels special to me that I make my move into club ownership with Swansea City. The story of the club and the area really struck a chord with me. This is a proud, working class city and club. An underdog that bites back, just like me," said Snoop. "I'm proud to be part of Swansea City." "To borrow a phrase from Snoop's back catalogue, this announcement is the next episode for Swansea City as we seek to create new opportunities to boost the club's reach and profile," Swansea's owners said in a statement. "Snoop's colossal global fanbase and audience will certainly help us do that, and he has made clear to us throughout this process just how excited he is at the prospect of joining the club. "Snoop has openly shared his love of football and his desire to be involved in the game and we expect his involvement to support us putting as competitive a team as possible out on the field." Swansea's Welsh rivals Wrexham have achieved a meteoric rise to the Championship since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney purchased the club in 2020. Snoop's love of sports has been a feature of his cultural phenom for years. He carried the Olympic flame at the Paris Summer Olympics last year, and then stuck around to support Team USA in a number of events. A decade ago, the rapper founded a youth football league (American football, not soccer) to help get inner-city children in the Los Angeles area into the sport.

Snoop Dogg hints at possible investment in former Premier League club as he launches new kit

SNOOP DOGG has appeared in Swansea City's new kit launch and looks set for an even bigger role with the club. The 53-year-old rapper was the surprise face of the Swans' 2025-26 home shirt campaign on social media. 3 3 3 In a short video, Snoop said: "Hail to Wales and to Swansea City. It's your boy big Snoop Dogg. "Coming to a hood near you. Oh yeah, these are the new jerseys." Swansea's American owners have now suggested the link-up with the Drop It Like It's Hot star may not end with just the kit campaign. A club statement read: 'We appreciate the considerable interest and enthusiasm generated by Snoop Dogg's appearance in a Swansea City shirt. 'While we are not in a position to share specifics with you all just yet, we will be able to provide more details soon and we're excited about what's to come.' Snoop posted about the kit online to his followers, who total more than 100million. Madrid star Luka Modric becoming a co-owner in April. Their US-based ownership group, led by Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen, have made no secret of their ambition to grow the club's brand internationally as they push for success on the pitch. The Swans finished 11th in the Championship last season but they would have been comforted by the relegation of rivals Cardiff City, who finished bottom of the Championship. They will now hope that the off-field investment can lead to a return to the Premier League after a seven-year absence.
