Crosswalk to be installed in front of Portsmouth playground

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WPRI) — A crosswalk is being installed in front of the new playground in Portsmouth. The R.I. State Traffic Commission (STC) notified Portsmouth Police Chief Brian Peters on Jan. 10 that his request for a crosswalk near the playground on Turnpike Avenue had been approved. 'The addition of a crosswalk, with a Rapid Rectangular Flashing Bacon, will significantly enhance the safety along Turnpike Avenue, particularly near the recently expanded Portsmouth Community Playground,' Peters told 12 News. Traffic officials cited the nearby residential neighborhood and higher speeds as reasons for the approval. They also noted the playground's popularity, with officials saying it was 'overflowing' during a visit to determine whether a crosswalk was necessary. Close Thanks for signing up!
