Trump Drama Drowns Out Canadian Conservatives' Election Message
By and Brian Platt Save Pierre Poilievre seemed to be on an unstoppable march to political victory. It was late December and Justin Trudeau's government was in disarray. The Canadian prime minister had lost his finance minister, was deserted by key members of his party and had gone into hiding from the media. Poilievre's Conservative Party, already well ahead in opinion polls, expanded its lead. As 2025 began, one projection had them on course to win two-thirds of seats in the country's House of Commons, a landslide.

Kansas City Council votes to remove suspended city manager Brian Platt
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City will be looking for a new city manager. The city council has voted unanimously to remove Brian Platt, who had been recently suspended. In a city council meeting on Thursday, members of the council voted 13-0. The acting city manager, Kimiko Gilmore, will remain in the role for the time being. Platt said he wanted to stay on as city manager, but it's out of his hands. He was suspended on March 6, one day after the city lost a lawsuit filed by its former communications director. Former Kansas City communications director Chris Hernandez sued the city, claiming Platt instructed him and other staff members to lie to the media. Hernandez was awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars as other former city employees also detailed a hostile work environment while working for Platt. Mayor Quinton Lucas hired Platt four years ago. Last year, when the city of Austin tried to get him to leave KC, the City Council extended his contract. He said at that time, they knew about the lawsuit, so the suspension and threat of losing his job after losing the lawsuit surprised him. In an exclusive interview with FOX4, he said he's faced animosity from city staff since he was hired since many wanted a Black, female city manager, not a white male. 'This is not a new moment. There's been an animosity toward me since I even started. During the hiring process. And city manager jobs are really tough, you know,' Platt said. 'There's a lot of people who are unhappy and frustrated with you, with the decisions you make. It's very hard to get consensus for anything. Ever.' He said over the past four years, he's improved the culture at City Hall and made major improvements to trash service, roads, and snow removal. He claims he never told his staff to lie to the media. 'I never asked anybody to lie,' Platt said. 'I'm not sure I can comment too much further on litigation, but absolutely not.' This is a developing story that FOX4 will continue to update. Lucas, sources on future of City Manager position: ‘It's hard to tell'
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Mayor Quinton Lucas says he is unsure if he supports city manager Brian Platt moving forward, one day after suspending the very man he helped hire. The suspension comes a day after a whistleblower lawsuit led to a nearly $1 million verdict against the city in a lawsuit filed by a former employee. 'We have to take urgent action; we have to take swift action,' said Melissa Robinson 'These situations are never easy, but our duty is always to the people of Kansas City and making sure they trust us,' Lucas said. President Trump to sign order for FIFA '26 White House Task Force The bottom line is that Brian Platt's job is in jeopardy and to a degree his bosses are weighing in. 'Those are taxpayers' dollars that we are using, there's real stories it's not just a line on the budget there's real stories behind those settlements and those cost.' The revelations in the latest lawsuit the city is on the hook for are long and detailed by former communications director Chris Hernandez. He says Platt told him to lie to the media about something Platt claims was a joke. A jury sided with the fired employee and levied nearly a million dollars in damages the city will soon have to pay. 'None of us support lying or misleading the media I think it was Mr. Platt's Testimony that he saw it as a joke or something of that sort, notwithstanding the individual facts of that case that's something Kansas City will never support,' Lucas said. Robinson tells FOX4 that the city's liability from settlements and lawsuits has ballooned by millions of dollars since 2020. Platt's time in the city manager's office has not always been smooth. In 2023, civil rights leaders called for his firing because they believed his administration oppressed black people and had a culture of racism. Furniture Mall of Missouri to open new store in Kansas City's Northland Deputy City Manager Kimiko Gilmore will fill the role of City Manager of Kansas City. 'I've known Kimiko for probably decades now and known her when she was at Swope Community Builders. She's always been fair, she's smart, strategic. She's a friend of the community, she is someone who has a history here.' A source inside city hall late Friday afternoon said 'It's hard to tell,' when asked if Brian Platt would still have a job in two weeks. A decision on Platt's fate will come on March 20.
