Monster trucks return for freestyle event at Scotia Speedworld

Brianne Foley heads to Scotia Speedworld to get a preview of the upcoming World Series of Monster Trucks. Monster Jam returns to Scotia Speedworld this weekend, bringing the best in monster truck competition to Nova Scotia. Jimmy Creten, who drives the truck 'Bounty Hunter,' said two monster truck promoters are in Canada and he's grateful to be back on the East Coast. 'Very few people are able to do motorsports for a living,' Creten said. 'A lot of people do it for a hobby. We're really very fortunate.' The judge for this year's Monster Jam is Dennis Anderson, the driver of the legendary truck 'Gravedigger.' 'I am one of the main creators and pioneers of freestyle monster truck competition,' Anderson said. He'll be joined by a competitor who proves monster trucks aren't just for boys. Dawn Creten, who drives 'Scarlet Bandit,' said she had to prove herself when she started in the sport 27 years ago. 'It was a little more stressful back then,' Dawn said. Now she said she looks forward to meeting the fans. 'It's cool having little girls come up to you and boys that are like, 'Oh, my god, I want to be like you.'' Creten said there are new fans every year. This year families are able to climb onto a truck and feel the power up close. Monster Jam runs Friday to Sunday at Scotia Speedworld, along Highway 102 outside Halifax in Goffs. For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
